01.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week and it is important to take a step back and reflect. I remember my time as Training Manager at the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts and being in the room when Kevin Rudd made the apology to the Stolen Generations. The atmosphere in the room was visceral. You could cut the anticipation with a knife.... Such an iconic moment for our students and their families. It was an incredible privilege to be there at that time. There is still so much to do for us to close the gap on the devastation to generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. We all play a part. Acknowledgement is the first and for some the most difficult step but it is vital if we are to ensure equity. I pay my respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
