23.01.2022 Progress Update Being only weeks away from handover, it’s all happening at The Commons Hobart! The crane, gantry and access stair have been removed; joinery is being installed to L6 & L7; services commissioning is underway; and landscaping has started. In the next two weeks, the following will progress: landscaping, waterproofing and tiling to L6 balconies; flooring to L7; glazing to retail tenancies; laying of brick flooring to external retail tenancy courtyard; and the beginning of cleaning completed apartments.

22.01.2022 We’re continually reflecting and feeling deep gratitude as The Commons Hobart progress continues as usual during these times. We are also thrilled with the care and adaptability of our builder Vos, who continue to take every precaution in keeping the site safe and healthy. As high as level 5, you’ll find walls being sheeted with plasterboard, and on level 3 (soon to be level 4), the painting, tiling and floorboards continue to be completed! Exciting times indeed and we can’t wait to continue sharing the progress with you.

20.01.2022 Small Giants Academy have released the second line-up of The Next Economy Series, and it all kicks off next week with the incredible Lydia Fairhall. From the legends at Small Giants: After an incredible launch month of Conversations and Masterclasses with a host of thought leaders and a diverse community of participants, we're announcing our second line up of Next Economy speakers! Using their theories of change to explore the creation of a new economic paradigm and the lea...dership attributes needed at this time, be inspired by their wisdom and to take action. First up is Lydia Fairhall, a Worimi woman, born on Bundjalung country. From a difficult, trauma-filled early life to a soulful, creative adult life as a mother, producer, curator, singer/songwriter and custodian of ancient wisdom, Lydia is the embodiment of compassionate resilience. Join her and be reminded that we are master creators, here to heal and enliven the world with our own unique gifts. When we build and contribute to our organisation from that place of service, people and planet thrive. Second up is Dr Julia Kim - a leading expert in global health, wellbeing, and sustainable development, and the Program Director of the Gross National Happiness Centre Bhutan. Join Julia in a conversation about the history, power and potential of the GNH framework as an example of next economy thinking. We’ll explore the practical aspects of the framework alongside the spiritual and philosophical foundation that underpins it. We’ll also delve into Julia’s personal experience of the relationship between public health, the natural world, spirituality and our economy. And finally, Peter MacFadyen - a former mayor, renegade and legend of local politics. we will hear about his experiences taking over council and helping make Frome a leading example of local prosperity and democracy. Peter will show us that we can create the conditions for our own thrivingwe just need to be brave enough to challenge the status quo with kindness and some new ideas. 19.01.2022 Our dear friends over at Dumbo Feather released Issue 64 last week. From the legends at Dumbo, This issue is all about what has arisen in 2020, from our catastrophic bushfires, to BLM and a pandemic that changed everything. We recognise this time is liminal, and still evolving and although we are not ready to put a stamp on what 2020 has meant yet, we are on the verge of humanity’s next great turn. Through the grief and sorrow of this year as well as the hope and possibility it has birthed, we are bearing witness to all that has arisen, what must be grieved and welcomed. To read more about this issue and to purchase your copy, head here: https://www.dumbofeather.com//introducing-issue-64-consci/

17.01.2022 We’ve been listening, feeling and reflecting very deeply. And we will continue to do so. Sending love to all black, indigenous and people of colour who are hurting right now and who have hurt for so long. We stand with you. A Small Needful Fact by Ross Gay - a writer and community gardener whose work centres on delight and its many manifestations. Is that Eric Garner worked... for some time for the Parks and Rec. Horticultural Department, which means, perhaps, that with his very large hands, perhaps, in all likelihood, he put gently into the earth some plants which, most likely, some of them, in all likelihood, continue to grow, continue to do what such plants do, like house and feed small and necessary creatures, like being pleasant to touch and smell, like converting sunlight into food, like making it easier for us to breathe. 13.01.2022 Below is an excerpt from a piece on The Commons Hobart on the Small Giants Academy website, written by Bri Horne. Of the many thoughtful aspects of The Commons Hobart is the way the building is designed and built to truly hold each resident. Each home has a northerly aspect with views of Kunanyi/Mount Wellington, as well as access to a shared rooftop with solar panels, tanks to capture rainfall, a veggie garden, and The Commons beehive. It’s as if the building itself is a ...gentle hand on the back saying, I’m here. What do you need? A shared meal? Space for introspection? Fresh veggies? A cuppa on the rooftop? I’ve got you. This feeling, I believe, stems from a set of design and build principles in which empathy takes a front seat and the ego is kindly told to jump in the back. Head to the link below to have a read, and to check out all of the wonderful pieces that speak to our shared vision of The Next Economy. https://www.smallgiants.com.au/stor/building-for-connection
