14.01.2022 NEW BURGER JOINT in BLACK ROCK Reminiscing the old days Not sure if you’re as old as me. If you are and you also liked da clubs then you would remember this corner of chapel and commercial road in Prahan. There used to be a Hungry Jacks there and we used to all pile in the wee hours after a night at the Love Machine. Now it’s owned by Burgertory and Aaron and I dropped in to eat, as you can see from my teeth. Clearly my husband doesn’t notice these things anymore.... Small Ideas members get 20% discount here & every other Burgertory location. Today Burgertory opened their newest location in Black Rock so if you or anyone you know live out that way please drop in and show your support! PS my favorite item are those halloumi bites

12.01.2022 You can lead a horse to water but you can’t force him to drink? Is that the saying? I dunno but it’s the truth when it comes to my kids. I couldn’t force them to sleep through the night. I couldn’t force them to go to the toilet, it was all done when they were properly ready. I have found that it’s the same with learning. I’ve given both my kids every opportunity to help them learn but the truth is it’s very much about timing and sometimes the penny just drops at some point. ...When they’re ready that’s when they really do well and more importantly when it's something that they actually ENJOY. Thanks to everyone who sent me messages and commented about my thinking about Jack who is 4 years old repeating kinder next year. We decided it was the right thing for him and today we received news that he is accepted to repeat at the same kinder wohoo such a relief as we knew he wasn’t ready socially and emotionally ready yet :( What has helped Jack is these activity kits we do at home by Little Hands Lead. We will continue to do them until he starts prep because he just LOVES them. I bought ones that he actually finds fun, he makes the sounds of the animals, copies the letters and then finds them in the puzzle. It beats holding the alphabet and getting him to repeat he just hated doing that whereas, he thinks this is a fun game and goes and grabs the box himself! If your child is not ready for their alpha or numbers kits they also have these arts kits where they use their imagination and create /play for hours. Jack’s never been social (don’t know where he gets that from) but we know he’ll be ready in his own time. For now, these kits are giving him more and more confidence each week and it’s so lovely to watch how proud he is of himself. They are all laminated sheets with whiteboard marker so you can just go over and over again. We’ve mastered the small three letter words and next week we pick a card I say the word and then he has to tell me what letter it starts with and find it. The games are endless and there’s a guide but of course I sometimes go off track and create my own, you know your child best! Little Hands Lead are new to Small Ideas and they’ve made a big impact in my home and I know you’ll just love them so with a generous 20% discount it’s well worth a try! Whilst this year has been crappy on so many levels there are also many things I’ve learned and I’m thankful for the extra time with our kids as I can do so much more (when they’re not driving me mad)!

11.01.2022 ANIMALIA In Sand is now open! Located in Fingal along the peninsula. We are thrilled that this incredible exhibition has re opened in time for summer holidays. Boneo Discovery Park is a 27 acre property with an array of fun activities. It has mazes, mini-golf, mega-size games, rides and adventure activities. An added attraction for the school holidays is "Animalia in Sand" which are giant sand sculptures based on the much-loved classic children’s book by Graeme Base. We even ...got to meet him last year and can’t wait to revisit. They are still accepting Small Ideas members with your 2 for 1 discount to be presented when you arrive. Feel welcome to phone to book if you are worried about going all the way there and it being booked out.

10.01.2022 We knew the parks would be busy so we decided to head to the oval and try out these outdoor exercises that I saw on Insta. Clearly we look nothing like the insta people doing it but we had lots of fun. I'm more of an 'instructor' than a 'do er' Yes the boys were very happy for Aaron to hold them up but when I did they were preparing themselves for a fall

10.01.2022 Who has a boy who likes gaming? Or should I say who doesn’t?! My eldest is turning 9 this weekend and of course all he asked for was v-bucks. I didn’t get him that what I got him is sooo much better. Those that know my son know that he is quite introverted and has always been 6 months behind academically so we have ALWAYS been playing catch up. This remote learning was a time that I thought we could catch him up and he would be so much better off. Wrong! It was difficult... to teach a child that actually doesnt want to learn. Finally, by the end of our second chance at remote learning we have worked out how we can best help Noah learn. The teachers have been really helpful but one of the things that has helped was us realising, accepting that Noah loves gaming and he’s good at it. It’s one of his strengths and so when I found Code Create I decided to sign him up and if it was worthwhile I would share a discount with you all. Code Create turn that gaming time into learning time. Noah has NO IDEA that he is actually learning engineering all he thinks is he is building a cool amusement park in Minecraft with some cool guys. I signed him up for the weekly class and I know it was more expensive but the one on one mentor is BRILLIANT (for Noah). He feels like he’s talking to a cool, older friend and they chat, then they build and he comes off like he’s on a high. There’s School Holiday classes and term classes and you can use Small Ideas discount code SMALLIDEAS to get a discount at www.codecreate.com.au It’s such a relief to have found something that he likes and I know every child is different so if there’s something that helps your child navigate through learning please let me know in comments or DM as we all could use support vs judgement.

02.01.2022 Here’s Aaron always waiting for the next snack, just like the kids. It takes love. It takes hope and it takes a good dose of sweets to get through a lockdown for our family. So our next reward for another successful week of remote learning, of living on top of each other, of getting through another week was to order this fabulous box of loaded cookies! It’s a new voucher under the Takeaway category called ‘Makin Doh’ and you get 20% off if you order 6 or more or 17% off if yo...u order 1 to 5. We got an assortment of loaded cookies, kids cones and I even got a dog biscuit for a friend as we don’t have a dog yet. Delivery is very reasonable but in our area it was free. Please try them out and let me know what you think. The kids fav were the Choc Chip Cones and Aaron’ loved the Nutella Rocher cookie - very filling! Every time you support a local business I know they are so grateful for the support and I know it’s my little part in helping us small business get to the other side of what feels like a very long road to normal, but we’ll get there!

02.01.2022 BOUCE Inc discount upgraded Melbourne is definitely 'bouncing' back again and my kids are loving it. I took them to Bounce last week and both 9yo and 4yo are asking to go back already. Small Ideas members can now book online and receive 20% discount on Adults, Children and Junior jumper tickets Mon to Thu. It was a great after school activity for us to break up the week.... I couldn't believe my 9yo did the vertical drop, not something he got from me as I would of had vertigo and probably even a pee. Bounce is located at Essendon, Glen Iris and Blackburn.

02.01.2022 Date night - greek style! Last weekend we enjoyed a Greek meze box from Yiasous Sweets! Not sure about you guys but sometimes we just want to graze and drink instead of eat a meal. I ordered the 'medium' sized box that said for 4 people as Aaron and I enjoy generous portions. Luckily as the kids stole most of our pita bread but we certainly enjoyed grazing all day/night long.... Yiasous Sweets are famous for their deserts and i've attached their desert menu here. I recommend choosing an assortment if you don't know what you like best, but i certainly have a favorite the custard one called Galaktobureko so i got a tray of that also! Small Ideas members can enjoy a discount and it's live now under Takeaway category although you can choose to have it delivered to your door like we did! I'm definitely placing an order of this one to my grandmother, she'll be so happy!

01.01.2022 I'm raising observers
