25.01.2022 Here's an article by Bri Williams on 'exceptionalism'. This is "the belief that a person, species, nation, region, time period or political system does not conform to the norm; it's an exception and, at some level, superior." Sometimes this belief can trick us into thinking that XYZ won't happen to us because we are better, luckier, destined for . It is a problem because it can lead us to excuse behaviour in ourselves that we condemn in others.... A larger photo in the article shows that the back person is a 'COVID Compliance Officer'. And he's standing way too close for social distancing. Exceptionalism prompts us to condemn him, whilst excusing the times we have done just the same thing. What are [your] examples? http://bit.ly/3nbY6fu #projectmanagement #qualitymanagement #facilitation

23.01.2022 Thanks to my colleague Mark Butz for adding Sting to this fine collection! #projectmanagement #qualitymanagement #facilitation

16.01.2022 Here they come again. The sulphur crested cockies. Screaming like nazgul. #projectmanagement #qualitymanagement #facilitation

15.01.2022 How many meetings are like melees? Disorganised, gladiatorial, confused outcomes Talking (loudly) over other people, as if that equates to winning. Small wonder then that some folk prefer to stay quiet. This article by Tim Denning points to value of being quiet in meetings. Both for one's self and for the group. It's about both parking your ego at the door and listening effectively. "Quiet people change the world because they hear things others don’t."... As ever, my perspective centres around harnessing good process. In this case, how to enable "quietness" towards better meetings. Two thoughts occur to me: Firstly, use a proper process. Free-for-all 'discussion' doesn't cut it. Support the process with ground rules about listening, trust and respect. Secondly, build in 'processing' time before and during the meeting. For some people solitude matters. Giving them time to think and/or ideate beforehand maximises their value. Also, deliberately open up 'gaps' in a meeting where quiet people can have their say, should they choose to do so. 13.01.2022 It's important to be practical, don't you think? I do wonder sometimes though, whether it's a bit like common sense. Much of it is determined through one's own lens or pespective. What do [you] think? What does praactical mean to [you]? #projectmanagement #qualitymanagement #facilitation

13.01.2022 For every proverb, there is an equal and opposite aphorism. For example: 'Many hands make light work.' vs 'Too many cooks spoil the broth.' What paradoxical project or quality or whatever advice have you been given? #projectmanagement #qualitymanagement #facilitation

04.01.2022 So, I'm curious. Why is it that lessons learned (AAR or whatever) is so often skipped over? Or, at least, that seems to be a common perception. Let's test the perception. What is your experience of lessons learned? When is it best done:... Before. During. After All of the above? Why bother. What do [you] think? #projectmanagement #qualitymanagement #facilitation
