22.01.2022 A while ago, I drew this diagram of the equine thoracic sling and I thought it's worth a reshare! Horses don't have collarbones! The thoracic slings function i...s to suspend the rib cage between the forelimbs and is responsible for lifting the withers during locomotion. When a horse is crooked; whether caused by an asymmetric rider, saddle, or by injury (usually relating to asymmetric riders/saddles!), the weight distribution across the forelimbs is unequal. One limb will carry more weight and have more of an influence on direction than the other. To facilitate this unequal movement, the muscle development will be asymmetrical- the more dominant forelimb will have a bigger shoulder and the opposing shoulder will be flatter in appearance and sit higher on the ribcage. Transferring this into ridden work, horses with thoracic sling asymmetries usually present by being difficult to circle in one direction, falling in on the more weight bearing limb and over compensating by bending too much in their neck. In order to rectify these issues, the horse will need to improve their vertical balance- learning to carry weight equally on both forelimbs.

15.01.2022 A while ago now I posted up a picture of 'blue eyes' and said watch this space , as I had a little project on the go Well I can now share my little project ...as I have almost finished the art pieces, barring 1 on the art table to complete today/tomorrow...... I just couldnt wait a moment longer to show and tell I think this is a really cool way of having your beloved furbies created into a one off orginal art piece, and it could be that your animal companion is a dog, cat, rabbit, horse or anything in between with fur, feathers, hair and scales.. These have all been painted on small canvas blocks that were designed to either sit on your desk at work or home, on your bookshelf, bedside table.... or they can still be mounted on the wall. I share again the one of the gorgeous Scotty who's lovely person Amy O'Neill let me paint him to use as one of my examples And here is a thought.what about you guys who are into Totem Animals..animals guides! They make wonderful gifts for Christmas or Birthdays or a keepsake of those who have crossed the rainbow bridge being small, lightweight and robust they are easily posted & packed into luggage. These have all been painted with archival quality acrylics and properly sealed to keep them looking great. Each one is an original and signed/dated. I am looking at making prints and cards for sale as well. And to show some versatility with styles, there are two pictured here of my mothers cat (Abby a beautiful Ragdoll, dont you just LUV their blue eyes!), painted in realism and the other with a bit of caricature. Abby was actually my first of this little project I did, and that was the caricature of her, which I wanted to give to my mum, but a friend of hers who loves Abby, bought it straight away.so I repainted her differently for my mum and it set the scene for variety of approaches. And then came the two grey cats, I called them Cheeky Cat as he is laying upside down (see how his paws go over the canvas) and the other is Fat Cat.I wonder why? I could have easily got stuck on the cat theme I love Australian native fauna/flora and will be expanding these out to include a range of favourites that would make great gifts as well. The blocks come in varied sizes and some examples are: 6 x 6, 6 x 8, 6 x 12, 5 x 5 (so cute), 8 x 8 and a host of others, the idea is to keep them small and affordable despite the hours and hours of painting each one takes to complete If you would like one painted for yourself or someone else, touch base with me via messenger there is still time to order one for Christmas! 13.01.2022 Some pics capturing our last Sydney based Smart Bowen International College equine training module for 2019, with our Module 3 students and 4 legged teachers. N...ot only was the hands on approach providing some releases, but the healing energy of the moment was felt by those choosing to get a little closer to the action! One of the key lessons for our Module 3 students is understanding the connection between the pectoral region of the horse, rib alignment and girth pain in addressing shortened strides. Remembering the hand placements for moves is often challenging for students, so a new phrase was born this weekend. For those Smart Bowen students reading this, our new saying is "Pecs to Pedal". 11.01.2022 This is the last opportunity for Bowen Practitioners and Therapist in the Perth area of WA to join me for a two day Smart Bowen Therapy training and/or revision workshop as I am officially retiring from running formal Smart Bowen workshops/seminars. As I am going travelling from early May this year, I am happy to make myself available to assist small groups with their Bowen learning as I move around the country.
