20.01.2022 Congratulations to all the award recipients at last night's annual Darling Downs Cotton Growers Awards dinner including our very own pilot Roy "Hollywood" Dawson who was recognised for his contribution to the industry - well done Roy!

19.01.2022 Helismart is expanding & we are looking to train & mentor a 1st year apprentice (someone who has completed their 1st year of theory would be ideal). For more information or to request an application form please email [email protected]

18.01.2022 Smart Air Services was proud to sponsor the Moonie P&C Multi-draw last night at Moonie Crossroads, the meals and hospitality were fantastic - such a nice family friendly night out and what a wonderful supportive community Moonie has, thank you for having us!

18.01.2022 Happy New Year! The recent rain has been a game changer for many in the Agricultural industry on the Darling Downs and the 2019 season is now looking promising. A quiet 2018 winter season has meant that we have not had planes in the air, although we have been kept busy with maintenance, and reviewing our management systems. ... We are also excited to announce that we have had a new Operations Manager in training and would like to officially welcome and introduce Alex Walsh. Alex brings with him more than 21 years in the agricultural industry and extensive experience in leadership roles backed by a swag of agribusiness qualifications. Keen to compliment his hands-on knowledge with business qualifications, Alex completed a Diploma in Agriculture, with distinction, at the Marcus Oldham College in Geelong, and then returned to Queensland to move into station management positions and his career path led him to become General Manager of one of Australias largest beef industry pastoral operations. In late 2016 A job opportunity for Alexs partner Amy, who works in the media, saw the family move to the Darling Downs giving Alex a chance to take a career diversion, tinker with some cattle work on his own hobby farm and undertake contracting work. However, the appeal of a new challenge saw him take the opportunity to join Smart Air. Responsible for managing day-to-day ground and air crew operations, Alex enjoys the variety of the role and the opportunity to apply his knowledge to family-owned business within an exciting industry. Being a recreational pilot himself, a chance to work in and around planes was also a draw-card. Alex is not afraid to get his hands dirty and is just as comfortable loading planes as he is working on a computer spreadsheet. He enjoys working alongside Ben, Smart Airs chief pilot, contract pilots and the admin team to address the needs of clients. Outside of work, Alex enjoys horse riding and water-skiing, doing work around his property near Oakey and chasing after his two busy daughters aged 3 and 4. To book in a spray request you can continue to email details through to [email protected] , complete an online form through the website http://smartair.net.au/order-form/ or phone the office on 07 4663 2244 once the work order if processed Alex or Ben will be in touch to confirm the job.

16.01.2022 Smart Air Services is expanding and we need a Full-time Operations & Logistics Coordinator to join the team. The ideal person for this position must be willing to learn, be reliable, honest & trustworthy. We like to have fun and enjoy what we do so having a sense of humour and being able to have a joke is a prerequisite. We need a self-motivated person with high level customer service skills. You need to be a good communicator, extremely organised and enjoy the challenge ...of solving problems and thinking on your feet. With guidance and support from the Chief Pilot & Administration staff you will be required to coordinate the daily operations & logistics of aircraft movement & ground crew. You also must be prepared to get "hands on" and work outside around noisy aircraft, handle chemical and travel locally to where the work is for the day. As the nature of the work is weather dependant you will at times need to work under pressure and be flexible with constant change. Safety must be forefront of your mind at all times. The Ag game is seasonal, so this is not a regular 9-5 position. It can be demanding in the busy times however we can offer flexibly in the off season. You will be fairly compensated and remuneration will be paid as per the Award & Fair Work Standards Australia. Agricultural experience and knowledge on chemical applications is not essential but would be an advantage. Transport & logistics or Aviation experience would also be beneficial. This position is based on a private property near Cecil Plains so you will be required to have an unrestricted manual drivers licence, own vehicle and accommodation close by (nearest townships are Cecil Plains or Dalby QLD). The application process for this position will be open until June 30 2018. To request an application form or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Steph Smart on [email protected]

15.01.2022 We spent part of yesterday brushing up on our first aid skills to comply with Workplace Health & Safety Regs (lets hope we never have to use them ). If you are looking for an awesome training provider who will travel to you, give Annie a call - it wont be your typical boring training she has a witty sense of humor and it was actually fun & entertaining! Annie does other workplace safety training courses too so check out her website http://www.qrt.com.au/

15.01.2022 Well the season has come at last albeit a little later than we would have liked but we are happy to see a change from dust & brown to some mud and green how quickly things can turn around! We have blown the cobwebs out, the planes are in the air going flat and the phone is ringing off the hook. Ben and Roy are working hard to dodge storms and cover as much country as possible each day. Smart Air are committed to providing you with the best service possible and we ask that y...ou be mindful that with the continuing storms and unpredictable weather there will at times be a back log of work, please be patient, we will do everything physically possible to get your job done and if required we will get in extra aircraft & pilots. We have the people & systems on the ground to make sure that your job is received and processed correctly, please contact them and not Ben or the pilots direct as it is double handling, they cannot process your order from the air and it puts them at risk! WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP US SERVICE YOU BETTER: Email your spray request order to [email protected] using the SAS order form (we need all details filled out to save time calling you back to clarify). OR lodge direct on our website https://smartair.net.au/contact/order-form/ this can be easily done from your smart phone (contact Steph on 0417 421 133 if you would like assistance with using this). Please ensure that your hectares are correct (if they are not the GPS in the plane will pick it up and we will not have enough chemical to complete your job - AND you will be charged extra if aircraft has to return with a part load! Please ensure that you send us an updated Map - the more info you give us the better! We need to know: o Where any hazards to low flying planes are such as powerlines, windmills & trees TO KEEP OUR PILOTS SAFE! o What susceptible crops you have around you and your neighbours o Sensitive areas to avoid such as houses, bee hives, organic farms, livestock etc. If you are providing your own chemical make sure you have it ordered and delivered in time. We are able to organise chemical on your behalf with your preferred supplier. Please advise if there are part blocks on your order so that the right amount of chemical can be mixed per load. Once your work order is received it will be processed in our system and Alex, Leanne or Steph will contact you to confirm the job and advise approximate time of application.
