21.01.2022 I just got a call from a scammer, number below saying he was from the ATO and that I have a $500 refund he needs to process. I asked so what do you need from me? And he said I can process your refund through your visa or mastercard . Finally, I said I have a Tax Accountant, ring him - and he was gone w/o a word . Be careful everyone. Be aware- (1) ATO always calls from a private number; (2) If you have a refund pending, they will send you a letter or if you have a Tax Accountant it will be addressed to them.

15.01.2022 We acquired this new client at the start of the new financial year. First thing we noticed during our takeover was the lack of system in running the business. The owner was using a MYOB desktop version but only to prepare his invoices which he downloads in pdf then sends thru email. Payroll was manually done on a paper worksheet. On a quarterly basis, he sends his bank statement to his Accountant for the purpose of lodging his BAS. During our first few weeks, we set the busin...ess up in QBO. Payslips now distributed to employees. The owner now does his invoice in QBO and sends them straight away to clients. One big issue we discovered along the way was that the business owner was not really tracking his receivables. Some invoices were paid after 6 months so we offered help. After a few days of reconciling the accounts, we discovered he had over $150k in receivables. The business owner was very happy and he now understands why he did not have enough funds to run his business. Few weeks ago, we have issued statements to his clients and he is now on his way to recovering his money which he can use for his business. Next week, we are meeting up with him to present and discuss his financials- first time after over 5 years in business that he will have a sense of where his business is at. We are very happy with the help we were able to provide this business owner. Now he is planning to expand his business. 05.01.2022 A few years ago, I once asked a new client Builder (a sole trader) if he was making money. He said i think I am, I have $25k in the bank. Later that week when I had put all his stuff in myob and checked on his integrated client account with ATO I found out he had a $40k debt, owed super and his suppliers. I quickly arranged for a meeting to discuss his situation. He was surprised because his Accountant never discussed the figures about his business. Fast forward to today.
