24.01.2022 Amazing sunset last night at Noosa Main . Having grown up in Europe, it’s always surprising seeing the moon that’s slipped down and is lying on its back . #noosamainbeach #simplywonderful
23.01.2022 A few months ago I started trying to piece together all the information that I’d been reading over the recent years. . It started with me listening to a great podcast from @andyjpizza called Creative Pep Talk. It led onto many books on creativity, many podcasts on psychology and countless others on innovation, idea creation and the search for meaning and purpose. . What surprised me was that although the subject areas varied widely, the main threads that brought everything to...gether were curiosity and creativity. . In an effort to map these ideas out (and having heard about cultural cartography and mapology) I decided to make my own version. . I mapped out the connections and main points and then tried to illustrate them with a collage. . I’ve put it up on my website (link in bio). It’s called The Big Picture, and hopefully you too might find it an interesting visual reference point for current topics. . And, if you find you’re particularly interested in one area or another, maybe you’ll dive a bit deeper, like I did, and who knows what will come of it? . (I’ll apologise now for the over-reliance on #sethgodin for sound bites, but he has some great insights) . #culturalcartography #mapology #creativethinking #innovation #ideas #creativity #curiosity #thebigpicture #culture #ideageneration #contemporaryartist #mindmap #visualreference #overthinking #purpose #meaningmovement See more

21.01.2022 I wonder if butterflies have any recollection of what it was like to be a caterpillar? They go from one normal to another, seemingly undisturbed by the changes of events. As much as only one caterpillar can ever become one butterfly, I wonder how much they have in common? If anything? . And so it is with these new normals us humans have to keep adapting too. Whether it’s coming out of lockdown, going into lockdown, or saying goodbye to parents-in-law that have been stranded... with you for the last 5 months... things are constantly changing, and we as a result must keep adapting. . Will we be the same people on the other side of it as we were? . And unlike a butterfly or frog that has a set number of changes it makes in its lifetime, how many adaptions will we have to fit in? . #changeishere #thenewnormal #againandagain See more
14.01.2022 Revisiting this painting as I wasn’t sure about the house and the green in it. So I’ve scumbled some point over it to tone it all back. Next part is darkening the darks and lightening the lights . #wip #lovethewordscumble
13.01.2022 Where does creativity come from? It’s only in moments when it’s lacking do you stop to wonder how you managed to create something from nothing. . Flashback to a time in January where this little gem came to me unexpectedly. Hoping my muse doesn’t stay away too long! . Has your muse up and left you in the lurch too? Are they all gathered somewhere in their virus-free zone waiting for us to lift the lockdown? ... . #wheredoyougotomylovely #whenyourenotaround #nomuse #creativitylost #iblamethepandemic See more
10.01.2022 Finished this little painting of St Mary’s church in Port Douglas. This beautiful little building would make a make a fantastic art studio!
08.01.2022 LOADS OR A FEW? If I were to ask you whether quantity (loads) or quality (a few) was important to you, you might say it depends. Loads of time may be better if you have work to finish, or are enjoying yourself, but less might be best if you’re about the experience something painful.... Loads of cheap pencils might seem better than one expensive one, but if the leads keep breaking and you’re spending more time sharpening than drawing, then it’s not the best solution. You may choose loads of options over fewer, but studies have shown that more options than 4 and people prefer to choose nothing at all. What about money? Surely loads of money is great? Well, sure. But experiments have shown that if you’re weighing up odds, you will likely choose a smaller gain with less risk, versus the possibility of a bigger gain with bigger risk. What about ideas then? Surely it’s better to have one excellent idea than lots of crappy ones? Well, once again, there’s a paradox here, because studies have shown that the more ideas you generate (regardless of their quality) the more likely you are to produce something excellent. Whereas if you just wait for the great idea to materialise, chances are it won’t. With art, it’s worth trying to find the right ratio. The ideal is to generate lots of ideas, but know you’ll have to restrict some of your options to allow freedom of play. Less colours, specific size, same subject seen from different angles... To think outside the box, first you must imagine a box. #ideageneration #quantityvsquality See more

01.01.2022 To all my creative friends out there (which is probably all of you, in one marvelous way or another), this quote is for you: . I hope today is one of those days where you make the time to create something that is meaningful and true to you. Something not measured by its success or reception but by the heart and the purpose of why you do what you do. - MHN . #creativity #curiosity #creativethinkers #creating #meaning #heart #betterthings #makingabetterworld #queensland #art #tropical #quote #morganharpernichols
