20.05.2022 Taking a radically different approach to eradicating workplace bullying & harassment is the only way. Often what I see is organisations stuck in 'firefighting' reactive mode. They spend most of their time, energy and resources responding to poor behaviours. The organisations I see getting ahead of the game are those who have engaged senior leaders who 'get it' and are agitating for change. ... The Bystander Intervention Approach done well is a game-changer and a critical part of the proactive formula. But it fails if leaders are not onboard and empowering their teams. As a leader, what can you do differently to prevent poor behaviours cropping up?
30.04.2022 A pivotal quote from our Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Kate Jenkins, from the AHRC's Respect@Work report. Sexual harassment is preventable. But it's easier said than done. To PREVENT sexual harassment, it takes planning, consistent effort and absolute authenticity. What is your workplace doing to prevent harassment?
26.04.2022 Everything we do at SmartCulture is about getting ahead of the game. We educate our clients' leaders and employees on how to prevent and safely intervene with bullying and harassment scenarios, using roleplay scenarios and talking through real-world examples. Our workshops are the catalyst for real change in workplaces all across Australia. But nothing changes if nothing changes.... Learning is part of the puzzle but it's intended to be the precursor to real change. If there's no change, what was the point of learning it all?

27.03.2022 Today marks a historic day for Western Australia, as their work health and safety (WHS) laws have been modernised. The new harmonised laws bring WA in line with all the other Australian States and Territories (with the exception of Victoria, which has even more stringent rules in place). These changes recognise modern work relationships and have been tailored to bring together WHS for general industry, mines and petroleum operations under a single act. ... The new laws implement stricter WHS duties for organisations, to protect the health and safety of their workers both physically and psychologically. This is a great win for WA.
