15.01.2022 It’s been 2 months since I was sitting in a hotel room In New York and it flashed up on the news that there was an out of control fire near the New South Wales & Queensland border. Bushfires aren’t foreign to us in Australia so at the time it didn’t seem like big news to me. How was I to know this would be the fire season to end all fire seasons I returned back to Sydney only a fortnight later and was shocked to see the sheer ferocity of this disaster unfolding before my ey...es. These fires have killed 23 people already. They are obliterating whole towns. They are wiping out entire species of animals. Our firefighters are running on no sleep and are exhausted. We still have our hottest days ahead and another 2 months of Summer to go. I feel so helpless. The horror and devastation that our poor country has endured has no end in sight. We need support, we need supplies, we desperately need rain. I know I have some International followers here on this page and many of you have reached out sending condolences and asking how you can help. 09.01.2022 ***** APPRECIATION POST **** As most would know I have been locked down for the last 3 months recalling a years worth of work and processing the cancellation/amendments of hundreds of clients holidays. People think cancelling a holiday is easy but a tailor made trip to Europe can take me 4-6 weeks to cancel and rebook. The negotiations with hotels, the waivers we try to secure so clients aren't out of pocket and the late night calls to the other side of the world mean most ag...ents are working longer hours than we ever did pre-Covid19. Even though the challenges have far outweighed the triumphs over the last 3 months I do this job because I love it. I still love this Industry, I love my clients (some of which have been with me for 18 years) and I love creating memorable experiences for people so they can share them with their grandkids in years to come. The Travel Industry has copped a beating of late and that's partly because people don't understand how we operate. Dennis Bunnik from the Council of Australian Tour Operators has released a short video answering a lot of the questions people with affected holidays may have. I know there are many of you out there so I wanted to share this with you so that you understand we are all in this together and your agents wont rest until they have every single holiday rebooked and every refund processed. Well I know I wont! To my clients, thank you for your patience. You have been amazing and so unbelievably supportive of me over this time. To my family & friends, I apologise for not returning your calls, emails and messages. You too have showed unwavering support but my clients need me for a little while longer.
