14.01.2022 Common sense is starting to prevail. Let’s hope more lenders demonstrate their support for brokers and publicly back the important role we play in helping our clients. All of the brokers I know are very ethical and professional and always have their clients best interest at heart. The commission paid to a broker varies very little from lender A to lender Z. Any lender recommendation is based on the clients needs, not the commission amount paid.... We spend many many hours helping our clients and potential clients. This does not always result in a settled loan (particularly given the lenders have made it so much more difficult to obtain credit) we are therefore not paid for many of the hours we work and the professional advice we provide to people. We also continue to help our clients many years after their loan settles and this often does not result in any further payment from the lender. Under the current model, brokers help smaller lenders to remain viable and in turn creates competition against the majors and keeps choice open to borrowers.

02.01.2022 I encourage everyone to please sign (online via link below) this petition against potential reforms to broker remuneration which could result in a blanket ban on commissions (upfront and trail) and the introduction of a customer fee-for-service of thousands of dollars. If enacted, these changes could make the mortgage broker channel unsustainable, forcing customers back to the big banks with large branch networks, and cutting customer access to smaller lenders and credit.
