25.01.2022 Is SMART Recovery Castlemaine meeting tonight? Yes. Are meetings free? You bet. And they're friendly and helpful too. Great for anyone who wants to change bad habits or addictive behaviour. Where and when? Castlemaine Community House, 65 Templeton St, from 6:30pm to 8pm, every Tuesday. What sort of stuff do we talk about? Here's a good example:... https://nyti.ms/2wYBmJX?
22.01.2022 London cab drivers' brains change: the more years they drive, the "map" part of their brains gets bigger. Isn't that amazing? The human brain changes. If we do something a lot (whether it's helpful or unhelpful), our brain responds at a biological level. It gets better and better at doing that something. That's what happens when you learn a new skill. It's also what happens when you're addicted to something. You do it again and again until your brain is really good at it. An...d stopping becomes harder and harder. But it's not impossible! Just like your brain changed to get expert at addiction, you can help change your brain back to a more useful direction. Your brain is ready to embrace new challenges. Come along to the SMART Recovery Castlemaine meeting at 6:30pm to 8pm every Tuesday evening, at Castlemaine Community House, 65 Templeton St. Meetings are free and anyone who's not acutely intoxicated is welcome to come.

18.01.2022 Living with an addiction involves doing stupid things and feeling like a loser a lot of the time. It really sucks. Fortunately, you can change. You can take control of your addictive behaviours. Recovering from addiction means you feel a lot better about yourself. And instead of hurting or worrying the people around you, you can be the person you want to be. SMART Recovery Castlemaine is meeting tonight from 6:30 to 8pm at Castlemaine Community House, 65 Templeton St, Castle...maine. It's free, and you're welcome to come and check it out. https://www.nytimes.com//financial-infidelity-what-to-do.h
15.01.2022 What should you do if you lapse in your recovery? This week's guest blog post discusses how to bounce back from a common, maligned aspect of recovery. https://smartrecoveryaustralia.com.au/guest-blog-lapse-rel/

10.01.2022 Hi! SMART Recovery Castlemaine is meeting tonight, as usual, from 6:30pm to 8pm at Castlemaine Community House. Come along for practical, helpful support in overcoming your addictive behaviour. https://www.canberratimes.com.au//like-falling-in-love-how
08.01.2022 We're meeting tonight! A support group for people who want to change addictive behaviour: practical, proven, friendly and free. SMART Recovery Castlemaine meets every Tuesday 6:30 to 8pm at Castlemaine Community House, 65 Templeton St. SMART Recovery is evidence-based. That means that verified and reproducible research forms the foundation of our approach. (Of course, we welcome people who are religious and/or spiritual. But you don't need to believe in any god or higher pow...er to find useful, practical, effective tools in a SMART Recovery meeting.) Here's one example of our evidence-based approach: research shows that physical exercise, especially outdoors, is highly effective at stabilising and improving moods. And there's a strong link between mood and addictive behaviour. So at SMART Recovery meetings, we often talk about ways of getting more regular exercise. Walk the dogs on Thursday after work? Join a friend for jog around the Botanical Gardens this Saturday morning? Advertise on the IGA noticeboard for anyone who wants to form an Ultimate Frisbee team? (Ulti. It's a thing.) Each SMART Recovery participant makes a plan for the week with a goal that is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-limited. And before you know it, you're walking the dogs every afternoon and playing Ulti and feeling a lot better about life. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//Hea/exercise-and-mood

07.01.2022 Just a gentle reminder that, sadly, there are no SMART Recovery Castlemaine meetings in January or February 2019. We hope to be back to normal, regular meetings in mid-March. We'll make sure to keep everyone updated. Meanwhile, if you're struggling with addiction, a great place to find support is DirectLine: https://www.directline.org.au/
05.01.2022 What is addiction? If you've got an hour to spare, and a tolerance for geeky science talk, here's a detailed answer. The Royal Institute in the UK invited Dr. Marc Lewis to speak on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOSD9rTVuWc
