21.01.2022 Kindergarten's Bakery! From our Christmas discussion, we created a play bakery to make Christmas goodies such as cookies, cakes, sandwiches, hot chocolate/coffee, pies, and many more! The children enjoyed role playing as chefs and handling money at the register. Check out the children's recipes that they have created!

20.01.2022 September is yoga awareness month! So what are the benefits?? Yoga helps strengthen children's growing bodies and helps them improve their flexibility, which can reduce their chance of injury. Yoga teaches discipline and reduces impulsivity. Yoga can reduce challenging behaviors in the classroom by providing a physical outlet for children to express themselves.

20.01.2022 If you feel like somethings not quite the same with someone you know theres something going on in their life or you notice a change in what theyre saying or doing - trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them Are you OK? If someone says theyre not OK, make time to listen, encourage action and check in. That conversation could change, or even save, their life.

18.01.2022 Our dinosaur domain. As planned as a follow up to the childrens interest in the dinosaurs, we have created our dinosaur domain. Into it we have placed our natural materials like the wooden tree stumps and stones. Palm thronds cover the ceiling of the tent and fake grass on the ground for grazing. Some pine cones and of course a variety of dinosaurs both big and small. The children were very engaged as they explored the environment. Moving the dinosaurs around the space over ...the stones and across the grass. Roarrrr! they said as their dinosaurs met each other. Our dinosaur domain is joined to our natural materials area so the children can choose new materials to add to their dinosaur play. We have even added some dinosaur sounds, crickets and other insect noises on the i-pad to make it sound authentic. At group time we introduced the book dinosaur sounds. The children pressed the buttons and the noises of the dinosaurs could be heard. There was lots of roaring from the children as they tried to copy the sounds that they heard. We will continue to add more materials to keep the children engaged and when they have lost interest we will reinvent our tent into another area of interest. See more

18.01.2022 Just a Reminder:-

17.01.2022 Showcasing our rooms.

17.01.2022 Its been a while since our last post from the junior Kindy room. We have almost made our way through the covid craziness. We have continued with our routines and setting activities based on the childrens interests During this time. This last few weeks we have focused on our cars and trucks. The educators in our room are continually revamping areas to promote and re-ignite the childrens interests in these areas. Our new cars and trucks corner has had stones added in our sens...ory tray. We sourced some tree stumps which we put in as well. Over the following days we added some ramps, hard hats and we are thinking about bringing in one of our large wooden playground cars to use in this area next week. Its great to see the children using these spaces. We are also creating a dinosaur grotto/ habitat in another area of the room and incorporating a lot of natural materials in that. So watch out for that in our next post. See more

17.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day from us all here at Smart Tots

17.01.2022 Peanut butter Cheerio clusters In a bowl, melt 1/4 cup maple syrup (or honey) and 1/4 cup peanut butter in the microwave for about 30 to 45 seconds, until smooth. Add 3/4 cup Honey Nut Cheerios (or another lightly sweetened whole grain cereal) to the bowl and toss to coat. Dollop spoonfuls of the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Set aside to harden, about 10 minutes. (Again, if your child has a nut allergy, replace the peanut butter with a seed butter, such as sunflower seed butter, pumpkin seed butter or raw tahini.)

17.01.2022 Blueberry Cream Oatmeal Smoothies Deeply fruity, creamy, and not overly sweet, Blueberry Cream Oatmeal smoothies combine all of the good things your body cravesfruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein, and dairyinto a healthy and addictively delicious drink that will keep you powered for hours. Ingredients -... 3/4 cup frozen blueberries 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats 1 large banana (cut into 1-inch pieces and frozen) 1/2 cup loosely packed spinach 1/2 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt 2 tablespoons honey 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed meal 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk or your milk of choice Instructions - Place blueberries and oats at the bottom of the blender and pulse a few times to crush. Add banana, spinach, Greek yogurt, honey, flaxseed, and almond milk. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Notes: For the thickest texture, freeze all fruit before use in the recipe. For bananas: peel and slice into pieces, then freeze in a tightly sealed plastic bag. For blueberries: purchase frozen or spread fresh blueberries on a baking sheet. Place sheet in the freezer, then once the berries have hardened, transfer to a plastic bag and store (this method will keep the fresh berries from completely lumping together).

16.01.2022 HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!

14.01.2022 The children in the junior kindy room are loving interactive group times. We have incorporated felt stories and characters into an area of our room for the children to act out their favourite interactive stories for their friends. some of our favourites are ‘ five little monkeys jumping on the bed, ‘the three little pigs‘ and ’Old McDonald had a farm’. learning outcomes- 5.2.1-Children listen and respond to sounds and patterns in speech, stories and rhymes.... 5.2.3-Children sing and chant rhymes, jingles and songs. Educators engage children in play with words and sounds and join in children’s play and co-construct materials that extend the play and enhance literacy learning.

11.01.2022 Another interest here in the Junior Kindy room is our trains and trucks. We have brought in our wooden train from outside and incorporated it into our class room. We have left a carriage outside the window and created a tunnel over the window frame. We opened the window and the children used the train as it drove through the window and into our other tunnel which we had painted. They had great fun as they explored their identities through this dramatic play. We will be adding signals to our train, source a bell possibly create a ticket booth for our train tickets. Great fun!

08.01.2022 SUPER YUMMY BREAKFAST BARS INGREDIENTS 2 cups rolled oats 1/4 cup honey... 1/4 cup whole-wheat flour or gluten-free flour blend 1/4 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup milk (dairy or nondairy) 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 2/3 cup all fruit jam INSTRUCTIONS Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line an 88-inch baking sheet with parchment paper, leaving a few inches overhang on two sides so you can easily lift the bars out when they’re cooled. Place the remaining batter into the bottom of the prepared baking pan and press down evenly to cover. Spread the jam on top. Crumble the remaining dough over the jam and press down slightly. Bake for 22-24 minutes, remove from oven, and let cool completely in the pan. (You can speed this up by sticking the pan into the fridge. Lift the bars out using the parchment paper and slice into bars.

01.01.2022 As an extension of the children's interest of playing shops, we planned an excursion to Woolworths. We have been talking about what fruits we can use to put in our smoothies and wrote a shopping list. The children got excited as we crossed the roads, learning road safety, stop, look and listen, when crossing the roads. We began our shopping in the fresh produce section selecting our yummy ingredients the children pointing out what fruits they liked. The children are learning ...to: -Show care for one another as educators encourage them to wait for one another. -Learning to be apart of our community. -Becoming spatial aware of their bodies as they moved through the customers. -Working collaboratively with one another. -Increasing their independence, care and safety for themselves.
