19.01.2022 To continue in the theme of National Science Week (15/8-23/8/2020), I had some fun this week trying to create smash cakes with a space theme. Pictured is a snippet of one of the results. More photos to come! In South Australia we have a number of avenues for pursuing an interest in space. The Astronomical Society of SA (https://www.assa.org.au), normally runs education and night viewing events (all public contact events are currently cancelled due to Covid). This is someth...ing that I am definitely keen to pursue! To support careers in the space industry, this state is fortunate to house the South Australian Space Industry Centre (SASIC) which was formed to drive space industry innovation, research and entrepreneurial development (https://www.sasic.sa.gov.au). Another interesting and notable South Australian claim to fame in the space sector is the Adelaide-born Andy Thomas, who was Australias first professional astronaut to travel into space. By definition (dictionary.com), an avalanche is a mass of snow, ice or rocks following down a mountainside. An avalanche is also defined as a sudden arrival or occurrence of something in overwhelming quantities. This s both boxes!! Following on from the National Science Week (15/8-23/8/20) theme, there is such a thing as an avalanche scientist!! By and large, this group comp...rises people who have specialised in geology, although engineering and physics are important in understanding avalanche formation.
