25.01.2022 I discovered my Dharma, or what I was put on this earth to do, when I first discovered I could smile freely for the first time, at age 22. I came from strict Asian parent upbringing, and being a dentist was not my first choice of profession. I loved animals and I wanted to be a vet since I was young. But mum had other goals for me. I was afraid when I moved to Australia in 1985, a very awkward teenager with lips that couldn't seal over very bad teeth that protruded out of m...y mouth. I was a disfigurement in my own eyes and I guess to others' as well, because I got teased a lot as a child and teenager. I was embarrassed at how I looked and thus became quite reclusive and shy. The last thing I ever thought of becoming was a dentist as my teeth were my most hated thing about myself. But as you grow up in an Asian household, I did not have much of a choice, so I found myself in UWA doing dentistry, which I also hated at the time. Only at University age did my very bad smile finally get fixed, when my immigrant parents could finally afford to send me to an orthodontist. I had 9 teeth extracted and braces for 3 years, and finally ended up with a smile that I love today. Only at age 22 did I discover that I could smile for the very first time. This was also the year that I graduated from Dental School. Because of the life change that I experienced being able to smile again, I finally realised my own Dharma. I could now help many to feel the way I did when I first smiled again. Then, with all my heart, I gave myself to it. This is why I continue to be the never ending student and learnt how to give people the smiles they would love. This is why I love what I do so much and feel so gratified every day by the work I get to do. Thank you to my clients, who allow me to be my best at work everyday, and trusting me for your care. 23.01.2022 One thing that I realize from making smiles for my beautiful clients is that for most of them, getting that smile done for themselves is actually a great act of self love for them. They weren’t doing it to impress or be more acceptable to others but really it was always to feel better about themselves. This is why my job is so rewarding gratifying for me as it really means a lot to me that I can help them do that for themselves. I have learnt to do that more as well, as a ...mum I am used to not spending on myself but I would in a heartbeat spend that on a loved one. So recently I bought myself my dream camera, and I prioritize me time daily ( even if it is at 5 am ) to fill up my own cup so that I have more to give to others I really care about. 22.01.2022 Sacha was disappointed with the cosmetic dentistry that she had done previously. She had challenging asymmetries due to congenitally missing teeth and had spent a lot on cosmetic dentistry all her life to try to mitigate this. She was still not happy with the alignment of her teeth, the shapes that they were and the gaps that remained. Due the reduced number of teeth, the circumference of her arch was also reduced, and this caused the smile she had to be very narrow and retr...uded. We replaced the missing teeth and closed the gaps with a combination of veneers, crowns an bridges, to rebuild her smile for her. We built the teeth out to widen her smile and make it fuller. 22.01.2022 What makes a natural looking smile ? You will notice some teeth have had work done and usually those are the badly done cosmetic treatments, because, if they are well done, you actually cannot tell which ones were the natural teeth, and which ones are the porcelain veneers. The art of creating a natural smile comes down to all the fine details you see on each natural tooth. If you look at the teeth closely, they are not a uniform colour... but a gradation of different layers, and colours as well as some areas of the tooth being more translucent than others. There are also imperfections the shapes and edges of the teeth, and often they are not totally symmetrical from side to side. The slight variations is what makes them look natural. If you observe the light bouncing off the tooth surface you will see the light comes in little ripples or flecks, rather than a smooth sheet, this is because there are surface speckles or ripples on teeth. This surface texture makes the tooth natural and can be recreated by a talented artist technician. When you build in all these imperfections together, they actually add up to give the most natural and real looking smiles that look like real teeth. So if you are thinking of getting some natural looking veneers, these are the small details that need to be taken into consideration and designed in your smile. 22.01.2022 Does anyone feel that sometimes we run with life and life then runs us? My life as a mum and business owner certainly feels like this. I never stop hustling and juggling. Life is just so busy all the time. With the Covid shut downs, I was so scared initially, I was filled with fear of the uncertainty and did not know how I was going to make a living to support the 3 kids and the team that relied on the jobs that my business provided. I was so scared, until I got on top of my... own limiting mindset and realised the following. I had more time to meditate, and practice my gratitude every day. More time to sit with my sons and talk and laugh, more time to appreciate the sunrise and the sunset. More time to exercise and feed my body and my kids good things . More time to read and feed my mind what it craved and needed. More time to reflect, reset, rethink and then learn from the realisations and do things differently. And realised how lucky we were to be where we were. We had so much support being in this amazing country. We could still take walks outside and I had my own sanctuary to isolate in, with the people I loved. We are so so lucky. What I learned is that we dont have to run ragged like this. All these gifts are here with us every day. We dont have to keep hustling but actually be more content and grateful. Be more present, and appreciate the moments that we do have, and the people that are around us. Take time to be kind. Listen. Care. At the end of the day, we cant take anything we acquire with us when we leave this body and this earth, but we will leave a legacy of what good we have done with our life, and whose lives we impacted and the difference that we made. 22.01.2022 Our new smile of the week! We delivered Karen's new smile last week and she has left us a lovely 5 star review. We love Karen’s new smile as much as she does! Her teeth were worn and short from grinding and wear and tear and she just wanted a new lease of life on them again. With a smile redesign and porcelain veneers we were able to give her the smile she wanted. She can’t stop smiling now and only in 2 treatment visits she undid the years of wear and regained her beautiful smile.

21.01.2022 This is Kris with his worn smile before and after in his trial smile or his Mock Ups. The Trial smile is made of Acrylic and allows him to test out his new smile before it is finally made into porcelain. This process ensures that he will get the smile that he desires and we can make any adjustments that are needed. The mock ups stay in the mouth for about 3 weeks so that you can get a very good feel for your new smile before the porcelain is placed. This way you can show your friends and family and get all the feed back for any changes before the final porcelain veneers are inserted. 18.01.2022 Sometimes life gets us down, or we feel the overwhelm of our daily demands. Today for me was one of those days. The love of my life left to go back to run his business on the other side of Australia. And I will probably not be able to see him again for another few months whilst the borders remain closed. After a few tears and feeling sorry for myself I had to regain myself for the care of my patients ahead. This is the thing that helps me get back to centre, every time life... gets me down. I had to really practice this today, some deep breaths, and smiling remembering the things that i am so grateful for. How does the physical act of smiling help you feel better? It not only offers a mood boost, but helps our bodies release cortisol and endorphins that provide a number of health benefits. These include 1. Reduced blood pressure. 2. Increased endurance 3. Reduced pain 4. Reduced stress 5. Strengthened immune system These things together with deep belly breaths, and meditation are how I cope in times of stress and hurt. 16.01.2022 When I was a young kid, I laughed, danced, sang without a care in the world, and as I grew older that began to change. As my adolescence took over, that carefree happy child somehow got lost. What changes in us adults that makes us afraid of looking bad, or being silly, or feeling judged? Why do we lose that innocent inner joy that is so pure and so beautiful? Why do we then become the harshest critics of ourselves? And let our self image then prevent us from radiating our i...nner light out to the world? For me, it was my disfigured teeth that made me feel like a freak. I felt judged, bullied and embarrassed. I felt inadequate and ugly. I just wanted to be like every one else with straight teeth that did not stick out of their face. I wanted to be able to close my lips around my teeth like every one else. That kept me reclusive and scared of interaction with others. Only when I got my teeth finally fixed when I was 21, with 9 teeth removed and braces for 3 years, did I finally begin to feel "normal" again. Only then did I finally allow my inner light to radiate. 12.01.2022 What are the components of a stunning smile? 1. Teeth. Are they natural, with all the characteristics that natural teeth have? Eg translucency, texture, incisal character, shape. 2. Alignment of the teeth. People always want nice straight teeth, but if they were in a straight line, they would not be attractive at all, in fact, they need to follow the curve of the lower lip. Simply asking for straight teeth will not do you any favours. You need a smile that curves according... the the curve of your lower lip, and that is the smile that will be stunning in your face. 3. Colour. Most cultures value white teeth, but some exceptions do exist, esp the ones I met in the Golden Triangle tribes who valued black teeth !! Thankfully this is easily sorted with our amazing whitening systems that we have now. We have trialed and tested them all and come up with the best results with the systems that we currently use. 4. 12.01.2022 When I was a little girl, up until the age of 21, I could not smile as I hated my teeth. I had such bad overcrowding in my mouth to a point where I could not close my lips around my teeth to hide them. Most of my time was spent looking shyly away from people, or covering my mouth with my hand, or hiding in the library at lunch time. That was just how normal life was for me. I hung out after school with my dog mainly, and was teased at school for not only being nerdy, bad at ...sport, but also looking a bit deformed with my jutted out teeth. I never smiled. I always hid away from people or crowds. It wasnt until I had my smile fixed at the age of 21 did I ever smile freely and unashamedly for the first time in my life. Only then did I realise how much joy I felt, how liberating it was to not have to worry about covering up all the time, how much freer and happy I felt. Only then, could I radiate my inner joy. Only then I realised I could actually express who I really was inside. And how good it felt to be me. That is when I realised what my purpose on this earth was to do. Ever since I was younger and read a lot of books by Jack Canfield and watched The Secret I have always believed in the Law of Attraction as the universe has always given me what I need at the right time. Everything happens for a reason. I also always had the belief that if its not worked out the way you wanted, its because it wasnt meant to be, and there is something better lined up for you. That seems to be how my life has seemed ...to be. I am so grateful for all that I have in my life and look forward to the blessings that are to come. I also have a clear vision on how I want to design my life, by setting long and short term goals and also writing down all my dreams. And somehow, the universe magically provides the way. Whether its strange coincidences, chance meetings, opportunities popping up at the right time, or people appearing into my life just when I needed to meet them. These are my little daily rituals where I will look at my vision board and meditate, and visualize the outcomes I want, yet be so totally grateful for everything already in my life. 10.01.2022 A Duchenne smile is the one that reaches your eyes. making the corners wrinkle up. Most of us recognise this as the most authentic expression of happiness. Non duchenne smiles may be described as polite smiles but not genuine expressions of happiness. When someone can smile from their eyes, I know I have nailed their smile. 07.01.2022 Can you tell which teeth had the porcelain veneers placed? Have a look closely at the differences and take a guess. Hint : there were only 2 teeth , and we did " NO PREP VENEERS" which means we added on top of tooth, and not taking any tooth away at all. This young girl with beautiful teeth wanted them even more perfect. She did not like her smaller, curvy lateral incisors, so we made porcelain add ons to go on the end of those teeth, so that we did not have to touch any e...namel at all. The little porcelain add ons have extended the length and changed the shape of the lateral incisors so that we did not have to damage good tooth at all. These have been in now for about 8 years. The after photo was taken after 8 years of the little add ons being in. Woot woot!!! They look as good as the day I put them in. Simply love what modern dentistry can do .

02.01.2022 I know this to be true personally, as my own limiting beliefs and low self esteem were the things that mostly held me back. When I was ashamed about my teeth, shy and hiding in the shadows, I didnt allow myself to shine as my embarrassment and low self image stopped me from getting out there and being in the lime light, as I was afraid of being laughed at and teased. ( especially in high school ) I was too hideous to go on dates, too shy to even look people in the face. And... thank goodness I had strict parents who forbade me to go out, so it was just as well, all I could do is stay home and study, and practice violin and piano. It was not only in my twenties when I finally got my smile fixed, and I was then feeling a whole lot more confident to get out there, did I really start to come out of my shell and make some incredible friendships and had romantic relationship with the man that I later married. Only when I felt ok about my smile did I allow myself to truly shine. It took me a little while to get used to the fact that I could smile openly, then my true personality could shine. I would have never known how much I actually love people. I used to shy away from them. I love talking and laughing now, where I used to hide in the library and read books only. I even speak in public and give lectures now, and I love it!! There really is no limit to what we, as humans , can accomplish. We just have the grow the self realisation, confidence and esteem to allow our true natures to shine. 01.01.2022 The "before" pic is Lolas Smile before we began our smile makeover 10 years previous. The pic "after" was actually taken 10 years later. They look just as good as the day we put them in, 10 years ago. What is the secret to the longevity of the result? 1. We need to make sure that we take care of all the factors that caused the problem in the first place. For example, if it was caused by decay , then we have to make sure we analyse the problem, and modify the diet or cleani...ng habits accordingly. Or in Lolas case, it was from wear and tear, mainly teeth grinding , and lots of old fillings. So we made sure the she wear a night guard to safeguard against the grinding and clenching . 2. Proper strong materials and bonding of the veneers. There are many different types of porcelain you can get and some are more hardy than others. The correct balance of strength and aesthetics has to be chosen. Generally, the more aesthetic and translucent the weaker the porcelain. But if your cosmetic dentist knows how to bond them correctly, even the most aesthetic porcelains can have a very long life. 3. Custom fit and precision fit of the veneers. They must fit extremely precisely to have a close contact with the bonded surface so that there is not a wide gap where the margin of the cement is sitting. So custom made veneers are much better fitting and precise than the ones that require "shaving" or alteration of the teeth once the veneers come back from the lab. 4. Regular maintenance. It is important to have regular maintenance both flossing and proper home care as well as routine checks and cleans at your dentist. You must also be aware that the person doing checks and cleans must know how to treat the porcelain veneers or they can scratch them badly and cause grey scratch lines on them if they use the wrong materials.

01.01.2022 Beautiful Bailey! Poor girl was born without many of her permanent teeth. So we had to replace her tiny baby teeth with implants and some veneers for a very gummy smile. We did laser gum lifts for her permanent teeth that were gummy and placed implants to replace the missing ones. So with the combination of different treatments married together, we gave Bailey the smile she always wanted.
