03.01.2022 Although life is still far from normal at the moment, we are keeping busy designing and making furniture/ joinery for ourselves and selected clients. We subscribe to the design by making approach and this keeps us busy exploring design ideas through real life models and testing things at full scale. We then use our findings to design and make better outcomes for our clients. Recently we decided to design and build some furniture joinery prototypes focusing on bathroom sto...rage. Pictured is just one of the designs that made it through and listed below is what we set out to achieve. 1. A cross over of use. Storage for everyday household items, not just bathroom specific. 2. Provide shielding for an existing sliding door. 3. Clear visual references showing quality in materials and longevity in construction. 4. Considered material and space layering to provide visual softness in an otherwise hard surfaced environment. 5. The object must provide happiness in everyday life for the end user. It must make their life better through increased functionality, longevity and visual stimulation. All this sounds great but we understand that some (if not all) of our above listed agenda is obsolete in a cheap cheap design and make world. But for the select few, who value quality over getting a good deal we are here for you. Designing and making quality items for your home. Projects often get cancelled due to a lack of understanding of how much joy one can get if you choose to invest in quality, custom made goods. Clients find it hard to image what the benefits truly are and instead only look at the bottom line. We get it, how can one truly image how much joy you can get from a simple, well made an...d highly considered handle relief on a mirror cabinet. Or the smell of wood oil every time you open a cabinet door. These experiences are almost impossible to image until you experience them first hand.
