24.01.2022 Kindy: Thankyou to Naomi and Nixon today. We learnt about Naomi's profession as a nurse, how to take blood pressure, oxygen saturation and how a nurse helps children if they are not well or had an accident. Naomi showed us around the Cairns Children's Ward through the "Git Up!" song and video off You Tube. Nixon checked Lacey's breathing and she is all healthy! There were many discussions and questions where children shared their own experiences as well. Great learning today and thanks heaps to Naomi and Nixon. 24.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK - Day 1 of celebrations at Kindy with Glammy. Our Elder, Glammy arrived today and the children were really happy to see her as always. Today we extended our learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with Glammy. 1st of all we began with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by Glammy, we heard some similar words and commitments to the Kindy Acknowlegement the children play and learn by daily. Glammy told us a story called Finding Our Heart... a story about the Uluru Statement for young Australians. The children transferred the story message to how they behave themselves and show the kinds of behaviours we all enjoy. Glammy was so kind and donated the story to us at Kindy. A discussion followed about respect for diversity and environments. Glammy and Axl extended the story with another book about being kind called Dunbi an Aboriginal cultural story. In the book children were being mean to the owl, the Kindy children all talked about how they are never cruel to animals and people and are always kind and respectful. Extending on this learning the children learnt how to do section painting with Glammy. The children observered a demonstration by Glammy and then made their own Dunbi the owl. There was discussion about the message of the story and we talked about how owls are considered wise. The children shared their Acknowlegement of Country we made at Kindy and the Heads and Shoulders song from Dissy’s teachings. Axl and Aske led us in sharing their culture. Glammy was so happy she is coming back tomorrow to extend our learning. Thank you Glammy. After Glammy left we worked on some Aboriginal Art puzzles and danced to the Laura Dance Festival music. 22.01.2022 22.9.2020 Tuesday - Soccer! Harry Suman introduced us to his Uncle Bob and Gran today, Bob is a soccer player and referee for soccer in the Cairns community. We demonstrated confidence communicating with Bob engaging with a member of the community confidently. Today Bob taught us about the equipment he uses as a soccer referee. We then moved on to playing several soccer warm up drills and games of soccer with soccer balls in teams extending our listening and responding skills..., physical coordination and learning from a community member. Some of the children were excited to share their soccer experiences as they play in teams on the weekend. An amazing experience, learning about the game of soccer and the role of a soccer referee. Thank you to Harry, his Gran and Uncle Bob! Analysis of learning, Phase Descriptions (Emerging, Exploring or Extending): The children extended their listening skills and physical coordination. Additional comments / children’s comments / family comments / Intentional teaching response (where to next): Provision of soccer balls in the yard and encouraging children to organize their play in games with the balls. 18.01.2022 Kindy: Class / Graduation photos. Monday 2nd November at 10.30am. Some info: 1. If it is not your kindy day please arrive at 10.20am for the whole class photo in the black graduation gown and caps. 2. The individual photos will be in the photo company colour graduation gowns. 3. The purchase forms are in your child's pocket. ... Thanks.

16.01.2022 Kindy families up-date: As previously shared we cannot have Graduation this year as a large event. As an alternative we are going to be filming the children's work / songs / ceremonies and sharing these with you. To do this we have a pretty tight plan of filming to ensure all the children are included on set days. Please let me know if you are going on holidays / taking planned time off during October from the 6th onward. This will help us out a lot. ... Also, if anyone would like to come and share skills with the children we will need to work around this too. Did anyone have sharing? I am currently working through the October calendar. Thanks, Lisa. 14.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK with Glammy and Axl in Kindy: Our Elder, Glammy arrived for our second session today and the children were really happy to see her as always. We extended our learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with Glammy. First we began with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by Glammy, we heard some similar words and commitments to the Kindy Acknowlegement the children play and learn by daily. Glammy told us a story about how to behave when you ...go to land you have not been to before: when you go in to new places you can say I am here to be respectful and walk on the land. I will not harm animals, leave rubbish behind or do anything bad. The children transferred the story message to how they behave themselves and show the kinds of behaviours we all enjoy. Glammy was so kind and donated stones and feathers for the children. A discussion followed about respect for diversity and environments. Glammy and Axl extended the story with an adventure into the rainforest by meditation, we all relaxed into this and put ourselves in the forest and experienced life of an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander person in traditional practices eg. gathering and hunting and we felt the sun on our skin. There was discussion about the message of the meditation story and we talked about how we can do this when we are going to sleep at night to be calm and relaxed in our minds. See more

13.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK 2020.

12.01.2022 Kindy: Tuesday 22. September - at 9am we are doing a soccer camp with Harry S. and his Uncle in the paddock next to Kindy. At 10.15am Monte and his Mum are teaching us and we are going to propagate Avocado seeds together. Great day planned for tomorrow.

12.01.2022 Kindy pirate day is this Friday.

11.01.2022 Day 1- Today in Toddlers, we started to celebrate NAIDOC week. The toddlers were able to colour in their own Aboriginal art pictures of Australia which were then put up onto the wall for display. Come and see our creation!

10.01.2022 Kindy: thank you so much to Kelly and Braxton for teaching and making candles with the class yesterday. So much enthusiasm for this experience. Everyone loves their candle. Kel's Candles is Kelly's family business.

10.01.2022 Today the children made yellow smiley faces in recognition of ‘Are You OK?’ day. 'R U OK?' is an Australian non-profit suicide prevention organisation, founded by advertiser Gavin Larkin in 2009. It revolves around the slogan 'R U OK?', and advocates for people to have conversations with others. Once the children have finished making their smiley faces they will be displayed in the room. They enjoyed this activity as it involved getting their hands messy and they were able to practice their fine motor skills.

08.01.2022 Tuesday 22.9.2020 Avocado Growing Monte introduced us to his Mum and sisters Jaz and Roxy today. Monte’s Mum has been collecting avocado seeds for a science growth experiment for us. Today we learnt about the process of growing an avocado seedling with Monte and his family. The children learnt the bottom of the seed has the circle section on it and that must be down like thumbs down. The next step was to put in 4 toothpicks around the seed and learning them onto the sides of... the cup to hold the seed out of the cup suspended. Then it was time to fill the cups with water to cover the bottom of the seed. The children followed Monte’s Mum’s instructions to complete the process and then dug the cups into the garden bed. The children will need patience as it takes several weeks for the avocado to sprout a new plant and they need to look after their avocado ensuring the water level is kept up to ensure the best chance of growth. Analysis of learning, Phase Descriptions (Emerging, Exploring or Extending): The children extended their listening skills and fine motor physical coordination through the science learning experiment. Additional comments / children’s comments / family comments / Intentional teaching response (where to next): Children will need to keep the water up and care for their avocado seed to ensure the best chance of growth. 08.01.2022 KINDY: Today we celebrated Vihaan’s culture with Diwali Day. What is Diwali Day? Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. The festival usually lasts five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika (between mid-October and mid-November) One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Vihaan ...demonstrated to his class friends how to make the Diyas which is a oil lamp. These delicate oil lamps are often made of clay, with a cotton wick dipped in oil or ghee. Placed in the centre of intricate rangolis and then lit with a match. Vihaan also brought in some sparklers for the children to each have outside to participate in the Diwali celebration! So much fun. We explored Diwali based stories through the chrome cast on YouTube which also gave detailed explanations about Diawali day for the children. Thank you to Vihaan and family. A great experience for everyone today.

07.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020 Today we celebrated Remembrance Day which is a memorial day that is celebrated annually on the 11th November. It is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. In remembrance of those who fought and died in the line of duty, we had made a wreath using some green paint and our hands. Learning about ANZAC/Remembrance Day helps young children to understand the life and times of Australia and its people. LEST WE FORGET
