20.04.2022 When it comes to our own fur babies, vets are just like you. We worry and hate seeing them in surgery connected to monitoring. Our lovely rag doll Budley found a dead bird and ate it! He was missing for a day and returned in great pain. It is hard to remain objective, even harder to stay in the diagnostic brain when it’s your own pet. Rushed into hospital, diagnosed with primary bird feather blockage and dehydration, followed by acute stress bladder blockage! Life threateni...ng and serious. Two general anaesthetics and procedures later - today Budley is feeling better and is eating. Still a long road to recovery but he is improving. Bloods, fluids, meds, abdominal ultrasound, radiographs and good old physical exam and vitals monitoring . It takes a lot of time, effort, thinking and equipment to diagnose a patient. Moral of the story - senior citizen 14 year old cats should not run away with a dead bird and eat it in secret! (the bird was a metallic starling that ran into a window, died instantly) PS: Lui the poodle was so worried about his friend. See more

25.01.2022 How is your Year of the Rat going? This cute young fellow had a skin and respiratory issue but is doing better now.

25.01.2022 Alert: We had another Heart worm Positive dog confirmed in Smithfield. This parasite infects dogs and sometimes cats and is transmitted by mosquito bites. Dogs become infected with the immature stages of the worm when they are bitten by an infected mosquito. The parasite grown in the tissues of the dog over a period of several months and eventually the adult worms reside inside the dogs heart (think spaghetti inside the heart). These worms breed and produce more immature wor...m larvae (dirofilaria) into the blood stream, to be spread by the next mosquito A simple 15 minute test can diagnose presence of adult worms. A simple preventative for life stops this awful disease. Dogs need to be tested and proved to be negative before any prevention can be started. Its a big problem if a worm is accidentally killed inside the heart. Please make sure you dog is on prevention for a healthy heart

25.01.2022 Congratulations Nike for making it to 1 kg in weight!! Huge !! (PS: always supervise children when playing in styrofoam ball pit !!)

24.01.2022 A milestone day! We have just welcomed our one thousandth patient !! Muppet received a gift bag of doggy goodies to take home, she was a very well mannered girl

23.01.2022 Hello everybody, We are operating as usual; below is the message from the Federal Government confirming veterinary clinics are an essential service. We will endeavour to meet all your needs during this trying time. Please do call ahead, so that we can get your medications ready or to make sure social distancing is practiced during your visit. Please be patient with us, in case we are on short staff at the time of your visit. We will also endeavour to entertain you. Here are s...ome of our measures for social distancing, disinfecting and reducing unnecessary face touching. Stay safe!! Mar 27, 2020 Minister for Agriculture Vets an Essential Service during the COVID-19 crisis Statement from the office of the Hon. David Littleproud MP, Minister for Agriculture: The Federal Government considers the role of veterinarians essential to the agricultural sector and therefore to our nations food security but also in protecting companion animals and our nations wildlife. The Federal Government has not put any restrictions on veterinarians other than the practice of social distancing and hygiene practices during the COVID-19.

23.01.2022 Dear friends, Our clinic is temporarily closed, but we are contactable by phone, as normal. The sudden loss of our son overseas means that the family needs time and space to be together, but there is a pandemic and no flights..... We will need your support soon to celebrate his life. For now, all energy is focused on overseas.... This images are from a perfect day 2 years ago; our little dog Soosh is looking after him now ... Forever loved and never forgotten See more

22.01.2022 PS: We have our lovely nurse available in certain time periods. All the ongoing medication and preventatives can be dispensed, no problem. Please call our main number 4000 0619 during business hours for anything you may need. We thank our community for their support and understanding at this difficult time.

21.01.2022 Update: Getting closer and closer to home. In mandatory quarantine in Sydney at the moment. This is what air time looks like, masks and gloves and 20 minutes outside every couple of days. Grass and trees never looked so good... Thank you for being patient. Cant wait to pat every dog and cat I could possibly get my hands on.

21.01.2022 Introducing: the tiny addition called Nike. Named after her distinctive tail kink, this little 7 week old Maltese cross girl made us smile again and reminded us of how our Soosh used to be when she was young.

21.01.2022 On a lighter note: our patients have been cautioned not to panic-buy, get only what they need. Hospital patients will be restricted to a single roll of toilet paper . The animals agreed to follow the rules.

20.01.2022 You know you are a Vet if you get thrilled and overjoyed when your critical care patient of one week sits up and bites you during an injection!! Yippee!!! PipPip is feeling better!!! Basically any body function other then vomiting or diarrhoea is exiting...

20.01.2022 Some cute puppies for your day. All sizes, types and personalities to suit everybody!

20.01.2022 When you are just waking up from a procedure and there is a funky tune on the radio. Storm is going with the flow.

20.01.2022 Special thank you to Benny this morning for making me smile He is an eight year old Shih Tzu cross with a lovely personality.

18.01.2022 We had a huge December with the usual suspects: gifts of baby birds, half eaten rodents from Kitty, cute puppies visiting, older dogs getting sick and then better, cats riding in a wagon, cats negotiating their treatment, horses needing vaccinations, celebrating Three Years in Business, staff doing their thing, orders coming in and being dispensed the same day, dogs waiting and waiting patiently for the owners to stop talking.... One could almost forget about Covid-19 in other parts of the world less lucky then us.

18.01.2022 Cats often go undiagnosed with their musculoskeletal problems, arthritis and RSI. They hide symptoms very well and can generally function alright due to their natural suppleness and small body size. But quite often they are sore and uncomfortable which makes them a little shot tempered or cranky. Negotiating during a treatment session with Emmet, convincing him physiotherapy is a great idea

17.01.2022 Saying goodbye to our fur baby Soosh tonight.....She put up a big fight over last 8 months but is now very tiered and needs to sleep in peace. Last few precious hours spent cuddling and visiting the favourite places. Our thoughts are with all our clients that have been through this before, we understand, we wish you well, we will have to take out time but we too, will be ok.

17.01.2022 A discussion with Missy the French Bulldog, about having some cage rest, protecting her neck and not jumping up any more..... She was not impressed.... and she has to wear a harness which clases with her leash! #spinalvetrehabpatient

16.01.2022 All Creatures Great and Small! It’s business and usual at the clinic. The humans are following all the current health regulations, not so sure about the patients, some are challenged in staying away from each other! On a serious note, if you need to pick up tablets or paperwork, please phone us ahead so that the process is speedy and social distancing can be implemented. Families, please stay safe - both the two and four legged members

16.01.2022 Our puppy Nike has turned one! Big thank you to the amazing ROAR gourmet pet treats for making this Dog Cake. This Pretty Roar is just the right size! The yogurt icing proved to be the favourite.

16.01.2022 Persian kitten is for attention. Please note that we will be closed on Saturday the 25th of July to hold our sons Leonid Dario Ciuffoli Memorial at the clinic. If you trained boxing with him or knew him you are welcome to attend; please let us know on the event page for the numbers.

15.01.2022 Inspecting dog types and breeds in Croatia. This older boy was calm and friendly.

14.01.2022 Puppy Parade. The lovely Borders On The Range came for their first vaccination, and napped through every procedure. Thank you puppies, too easy ! There were eight.

14.01.2022 Holly presenting her best side and lovely personality

13.01.2022 Addicted to horse selfies Feeling happy near horses and capturing the moment.

13.01.2022 Both of these are CAT scans. Which you choose for your fur baby can be quite personal. What price do you put on a peace of mind? Top notch diagnostics can spare our older patients a needless exploratory surgery and make their last few days or weeks with us so much more normal and at home, instead of at the hospital. Even more important, it adds peace to your decision-making, and your mind at ease that everything possible has been done. Diagnostic Imaging available for pets... includes CT (best for whole body screening), MRI (best for head and spine) and ultrasound or plain X-rays. Contrast media is used to to track the path of arteries and veins or to highlight organs when warranted. (Yes, this is our dog, Sasha. We found an abdominal tumour a few months back; now we know that it is NOT causing the clinical signs. She is 16 years old (thats 112 in human!!) and we feel the same way as you do when the time is getting near ) See more

12.01.2022 An update: we are doing ok, the best we can. Still in the US and self isolation at a family home. The clinic is managed as before for now. Apologies if there are any small gaps in answering calls, this is usually during staff change over. The funeral is over and somehow we made it through. Still cant fully relate to the American ways and the production that it was. Leon was a local boy for most of his life. You may not know this, but Leon and Dave did most of the re-fitting work on our clinic. Here are some photos of the boys working hard.

12.01.2022 How can I help?

12.01.2022 Horsy action at the show.

11.01.2022 Cats have tails ?!?

11.01.2022 Dog Mathematics: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel + Miniature Poodle = equals Cavoodle puppy. Advanced Dog Mathematics: Cavoodle + Cavoodle =|= does not equal More Cavoodles.... Basic principals of genetics state that further crossing of cross bred dogs will result in some individuals carrying recessive, undesirable genes. This can mean health problems. The laws of nature are for the sake of awareness, not to cause any worry. Since puppies are so cute, the joy they bring makes up for any additional trips to the vets

10.01.2022 Enjoy your Melbourne Cup Day, if you were able it get away from work

09.01.2022 Our puppy Nike has turned one! Big thank you to the amazing ROAR gourmet pet treats for making this Dog Cake. This Pretty Roar is just the right size! The yogurt icing proved to be the favourite.

08.01.2022 All Creatures Great and Small! Its business and usual at the clinic. 06.01.2022 Poodle mix options: Sansa is a champagne Moodle (Maltese x Poodle), almost 5 month old; Milo is an apricot Silkpoo (Silky Terrier x Poodle) 6 months old; and Roxy is a black and white Shihpoo (Shih Tzu x Poodle) who has a big personality at 10 weeks old and is hard to take a photo of! Each mix can be more toward the Poodle look or more toward the other parents genetics . No two are the same. Someone for everyone.

06.01.2022 This is why we go to the Show. We want them all! Cuteness overload, love animals

04.01.2022 Looking for some Christmas Cheer for the kitten Holly. This female kitten was run over by a car at Holloways Beach roundabout and was found dragging self away from the scene. A kind person brought her to us. She has a broken back leg and a broken tail (very sadly hanging down half-mast). She needs surgery; her owners have surrendered her because of this. Our staff have donated medication, food, time and money. We started an Angel Fund for her, thank you for the donation . But she needs more funds. Any donation will help. She is approximately 9 weeks old and is very sweet.

03.01.2022 Happy New Year 2020 from our little dogs to your family, friends and all creatures great and small in your lives. Lets stay safe and healthy, set some goals, but above all enjoy each others company and all the little things.

02.01.2022 Birthday Girl Nike

01.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our family to yours. Please look after yourselves and your fur babies and may you only need us for routine preventatives! Here is our Thank You Kitten Tree in honour of some of you who helped little Holly. If we missed anyone in these photos, you are probably decorating our other plants .
