24.01.2022 What if your app was TikTok? Finding out the Prez of the USA is attacking your app is an *extreme* case: but app-entrepreneurs *do* find themselves with outside interference nothing to do with #AppStore or #MobileApp tech causing heartbreak. https://buff.ly/2R7Hcjp

17.01.2022 Native apps, and mobile apps; and that half-way chimera the hybrid app. That's the spectrum then for app types. But wait, what about PWA's - are they a native app? I heard they do notifications? Well, maybe. https://buff.ly/31F06UK

17.01.2022 Big takeaway in my blog series for folks new to app building: apps go out in cycles, so it's a process. Plan for that. Get involved, or risk your app dreams going off the rails. https://buff.ly/2G7MbOF

16.01.2022 The process of app building accounts for the fact there's no perfect teams. We're human, and we work best as a team; by trying, testing & checking & nudging toward where we need to be with our apps we build. https://buff.ly/2G7MbOF... ( img credit: undraw.co )

11.01.2022 Coding has to be something you're driven to, I feel. For me its like I can't *not* do it. I'm way better at assimilating the rules of a system (APIs, languages, platforms) and creating novel outputs (apps, code) than I am at anything else. Img credit: undraw.co

10.01.2022 It's bewildering trying to get across what kinds of apps there are for mobile, since they look similar at first but have wildly varying capabilities. What are your customers looking for? Check my new explainer where I break down mobile app types:... https://buff.ly/31F06UK

09.01.2022 Have your own gig? Side hustle or full on business? Then maybe you've had brainstorms of what would make a cool app. But how do you even build an app? Who do you get on board? It's all here in my 2-parter on How to build an App!... https://buff.ly/2G7MbOF

08.01.2022 If you're driven to code, don't give up on it. Find ways to learn - believe in your gift. These days having a degree is not necessary, for you to be able to add value to a team. Image credit: undraw.co

08.01.2022 Working with folks new to mobile apps, sometimes I see a sign of failure to plan for the ongoing life cycle of an app. It’s when I hear talk of launching "when the app is finished".... Check the whole story in my series on How to Build an App:... https://buff.ly/2G7MbOF

07.01.2022 There's nothing wrong with overseas developers, or even out-sourcing per se. The problem comes when you do that with the intention of saving money, cutting corners & doing things on the cheap. If you don't have the ability to check the product you're getting the results are inevitable. Image credit: https://buff.ly/2CGxfCG Katerina Limpi

05.01.2022 If you get an app built you should expect it to keep working for at least two major updates of the OS and hardware, in my opinion. The customer for the app with the 44 screens found out the next year that his developer had massively cut corners & cut-n-pasted code. It's hard to break that kind of news to someone.

03.01.2022 Not long after I started Smithsoft I was working on fixes for an iOS app where 44 different screens had been hard-coded for screen-sizes & features that were stuck permanently in the past. Each screen. Same hard-codes.

02.01.2022 Google just released Android 11 to the public and I bet there's already developers tearing their hair out with requests for apps that now do not work properly. Apps have to be built with change in mind. #Android11 https://buff.ly/3i8v4JQ

01.01.2022 Apps are international. They can address folks around the world But this exposes your app & business to the vagaries of other countries. In How to Build an app I look at the soft launch which works great with geo limited launches too! https://buff.ly/2G7MbOF

01.01.2022 Working thru some of Google's labs at https://buff.ly/2JaNX0B - I must admit I used to wrinkle my nose at these sort of things but the way they're structured is super amenable to squeezing in on a Saturday afternoon.
