13.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK 2020 Due to Covid-19, this year’s NAIDOC celebrations were held in the second week of November. Students were lucky enough to spend the morning with Lynton and the crew from Parks and Wildlife Tasmania, participating in ochre painting, clap stick making and dance. Lynton and students performed a smoking ceremony on school grounds which students got a chance to be involved in. Ashton and Kelsey welcomed us in the morning during announcement time with an Acknowledgment of Country using some Peerappa Language words. Some students then attended CHACs Trawmanna NAIDOC event performing for the local community.

09.01.2022 Lest We Forget Year 10 SEC Co-Presidents, Shay & Taya addressed the school today and were amazing. The closing paragraph from their speech is one we would like to share :... While we commemorate and acknowledge all of those who have served in times of war, we feel it is important to speak from the perspective of our younger generation about our yearning for peace and stability in our world. We have learnt that war creates disharmony and heartache and that often open dialogue and honesty between governments and world leaders has the potential to make many of these conflicts entirely preventable. In the day and age that we currently live in, with terrorism a constant threat and many conflicts escalating rapidly, we feel very strongly that we should focus more than ever on reflecting and remembering the human impact of war and that we should seek peace and cooperation between all nations wherever possible. To us, this is the true meaning of Remembrance Day. It is great to know that young people deeply care about our soldiers and peace within our world

01.01.2022 Last Friday Smithton High School welcomed Year 6 students from across Circular Head for our annual Orientation Day. We were very impressed with the behaviour and attitude of everyone who attended and look forward to having them back here in 2021. Here is a short video of some of the activities they got to try.
