17.01.2022 ALL FOLLOWERS OF JESUS ARE ON A MISSION The Gospel from Mark which is offered to us today, invites us all to reflect on the mission of the disciples, and how... this may speak to each one of us, both as individuals and as parishioners. It is indeed a coincident that only a few days ago, Pope Francis was himself on a special mission, challenging the whole world to work towards peace in the Middle East. "There is no real alternative to peacemaking," declared the Pope from the basilica of St Nicholas in Bari, a saint deeply venerated by Christians in the Middle East. Surrounded by patriarchs from several denominations, Pope Francis did not mince his words, " Let there be an end to the few profiting from the suffering of many. No occupying territories, thus tearing people apart! No more letting half-truths continue to frustrate people's aspirations! Let there be an ending to using the Middle East for gains that have nothing to do with the Middle East! "Let us have enough of stubborn opposition! Enough of the thirst for profit that surreptitiously exploits gas fields without regard for our common home, with no scruples about the fact that energy markets now dictate the law of coexistence among peoples!" A strong wake-up call indeed, to all peoples of good will. Our contribution to the mission as disciples might not be as world-shattering and as forceful as that of a prophet-like Pope Francis. But we could do well to recall the words of Jesus when he declared, "By this shall everyone know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (Jo 13:35) Fr Michael See more

01.01.2022 PENSIERO DOMENICALE Quando il profeta e' rifiutato a casa sua, dai suoi, dalla sua gente dicide di andare ad altri paesi. Rifiiutato e contestato dai suoi a Nazareth, Gesu' percorre i villaggi d'intorno per predicare la buona notizia in modo instancabile ad altra gente.... Per questo invia i suoi discepoli nei villaggi della Galilea, con il compito di proseguire la missione da soli. "Il regno di Dio e' vicino, convertitevi e credete alla buona notizia." Li manda 'a due a due', perche' neppure la missione puo' essere individuale, ma deve sempre essere svolta all'insegna della condivisione, della corresponsabilita' e della vigilanza reciproca. See more
