25.01.2022 Schools Farewll Bishop Greg O’Kelly Representatives from Catholic schools in the Diocese of Port Pirie have gathered to farewell retiring Bishop Greg O’Kelly. T...he celebration was held on Friday 16 October at St Mark’s College Sports Centre in Port Pirie. Nichii Mardon, Director, Catholic Education Diocese of Port Pirie, and Parish Priests from the Diocese gathered to celebrate Bishop O’Kelly, along with Principals, student representatives and Board Chairpersons from Catholic schools from the Eyre Peninsula, Riverland, Mid North and Yorke Peninsula. Students and staff of St Mark’s College were present, with a welcome delivered by College Captains Harry and Chloe. Mary Manning of Caritas College, Port Augusta spoke on behalf of teachers and Brett Czechowski of St Alberts School, Loxton delivered a Principal’s reflection on behalf of Principals. The Year 3 students from St Mark’s College presented a ‘wonderfully entertaining and humorous’ skit called ‘What does a Bishop Do?’, dressed up as little Bishops - there was even a guest appearance from the Pope! Nichii Mardon officially farewelled Bishop O’Kelly, expressing deep and heartfelt thanks for the active role he has played within the Diocesan schools over the last eleven years. On behalf of past and present school leaders, staff, students and families I express deep gratitude for the kind, inspiring and invested leadership that Bishop Greg has generously shared with us over many years. He knows each school deeply - its people, its context and the gift that each brings to the broader community. Bishop Greg’s influence as a strong and gentle shepherd, of his vision and advocacy for regional Catholic education, and as a notable educational leader will continue as a lasting legacy for each of us. Through Bishop Greg's words and example, we know of our privileged role as educators in Catholic schools across the diocese. Student ambassadors from Diocesan schools presented Bishop Greg produce from each of their regions as farewell gifts. Bishop O’Kelly then addressed the assembly with gratitude and wishes for the future. St Mark’s College Principal, Greg Hay said, the Bishop will be saying goodbye to a ministry of service and to a thousand relationships. Bishop O’Kelly will say goodbye to the hundreds of assemblies of school children in the vastness of rural South Australia and the inspiration he created in telling us that a Catholic education is a privilege. Bishop O’Kelly has been a part of the schooling journey for many hundreds of students during his time in the Diocese and is very well-liked among children and young people. Year 7 student Eva Christensen-Lauder who was confirmed by Bishop O’Kelly in August this year said that the Bishop is a happy person who always made you feel at ease. The Bishop taught us about God by leading by example, he is always very friendly and talkative, and always says hello. He was never serious or grumpy, he was funny and loved to share a joke. He was a good Bishop. The Installation of the new Bishop, Karol Kulczycki, will be held on Wednesday 28 October at St Mark’s Cathedral. Story from: Catholic Education SA

22.01.2022 Happy retirement to Mr Morris; Mr & Mrs Rowe, and farewell Dr Sandra Hewson. Thank you for your service to St Joseph's School Port Lincoln.

19.01.2022 Palm Sunday "We are entering Holy Week. The Paschal mystery, the passage from death to life, is the heart of our faith. The Core of our faith The account of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus forms the oldest part of the Gospels. It was what the disciples recorded first. For them and for us today this was the nucleus of the Lord’s witness. Gradually, the deeds and words of Jesus were added, as in the case of the infancy narratives. All of this comes meaningful in ...the light of the Master’s surrender of his life and the action of the Father making him victorious over death by raising Him up. Matthews’s version goes into details. The betrayal, the fear, and the denial of the disciples are openly pointed out. The Master bewilders them. The same thing happens to those who seek to condemn him to death, either the Roman or Jewish leaders. The confrontation presented in the Gospel takes away their security; hypocritically they wash their hands of the matter. Their lack of consistency becomes evident. They accuse Jesus of wanting to become a king. Christ does accept his kingship, but his kingship differs from that of the Roman Caesar or Herod’s. His kingdom is one of service, not a domination. It is the kingdom of one who emptied himself and took the form of a slave (Phil 2: 6-7) and surrendered to a death on a cross to bear witness to the Father’s love. The cross, which for us may immediately evoke the theme of suffering, is the expression of total surrender. Wishing you a very silent and prayerful Easter" ~ Fr Ben M. See more

17.01.2022 A message from Fr Adrian Head: "A fascinating and deeply spiritual and inspiring 30 minute talk by Fr Linus Clovis (USA) that will increase your love and devotion for God’s Mother.....and ours. Go to You Tube, type in ‘The power of the miraculous medal’, click on it and then watch the video. It is not specifically about Easter but when one man, Claude Newman, who died in 1983 and who was condemned to the electric chair because he had murdered his abusive step grandfather, co...nverts the prisoners in both the men’s prison and the adjoining women’s prison, what a beautiful message about God’s infinite love and concern for us. One beautiful thing he said was this: "If you ever saw the beautiful blessed Virgin Mary, you would not want to stay on earth because you would be desperate to be with this beautiful, loving Mother". ~ Fr Adrian (still in hospital and recovering). https://youtu.be/b-Rmg2Z1uTg

08.01.2022 CHRISTMAS MESSAGES 'May you feel God’s presence in the candles that softly spread their glow at Christmas, and may you experience the wonder of His abiding love, as He guides you, through each day of the coming year. May God’s Blessings be with you at Christmas and New Year!' ~ Fr Ben Mkuchu 'May you take the time amid Christmas ...preparations to have a place in your own heart to welcome the birth of the Saviour. I wish you Christmas blessings, light, and peace in this Holy Season.' ~ Fr John Folkman 'If only we realized how much God loves us- to the point of folly- and how it drove Him to send His son to save us from eternal loss, especially through frightening suffering, we would strive to return that love by living our ordinary life in an extraordinary way! May Christmas remind us of the birth of our Saviour." ~ Fr Adrian Head

04.01.2022 Dear friends, blinded by grief, Jesus’ disciples failed to believe he had risen. As we face fearful times, let us put our trust in the power of God’s love and ask for all we need. We pray for the whole human race. May the world emerge from this crisis with a new commitment to justice, peace and global solidarity. ... We pray for Christian believers around the world. May their faith in Christ and their outreach to others foster kindness and compassion in their neighborhood's. We pray for all affected by the global coronavirus crisis. We pray for national leaders and their advisers making difficult decisions, front-line health-care workers directly exposed to the virus and those maintaining essential services. We pray for people trapped in places of armed combat or terrorism. We pray for all who have lost jobs, homes and livelihoods, people with serious mental health issues and those at increased risk of domestic violence. We pray for students whose education has been critically disrupted and family members and friends unable to visit their sick loved ones. We give thanks for all whose gifts are raising our spirits in this time of trial. We pray for the recently deceased, and for those whose anniversary of death occurs around this time. May they be raised with Christ to eternal life. (Pause for silent prayer) Lord, graciously hear us. Amen. ~ Images courtesy of The Witness ~

02.01.2022 THE GREAT NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT Pentecost Sunday 2020: May 31, 2020 Novena Days from May 22 to 30... Prologue The Novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian. Novena to the Holy Spirit for the Seven Gifts SEVENTH DAY Heal our wounds our strength renews; On our dryness pour Thy dew, Wash the stains of guilt away. The Gift of Counsel The gift of Counsel endows the soul with supernatural prudence, enabling it to judge promptly and rightly what must be done, especially in difficult circumstances. Counsel applies the principles furnished by Knowledge and Understanding to the innumerable concrete cases that confront us in the course of our daily duty as parents, teachers, public servants, and Christian citizens. Counsel is supernatural common sense, a priceless treasure in the quest of salvation. "Above all these things, pray to the Most High, that He may direct thy way in truth." Prayer Come, O Spirit of Counsel, help and guide me in all my ways, that I may always do Thy holy will. Incline my heart to that which is good; turn it away from all that is evil, and direct me by the straight path of Thy commandments to that goal of eternal life for which I long. Our Father and Hail Mary once; Glory be 7 times; Act of Consecration; Prayer for the Seven Gifts ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace, and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light and listen to Your voice and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You by Your compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son, to say to You always and everywhere, "Speak Lord for Your servant heareth." Amen. PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal / the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth / the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven / the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation / the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints / the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable / the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.

01.01.2022 Our very best wishes, as we farewell Dr Sandra Hewson, who has been a wonderful School Principal, Parish Councillor and community leader.
