24.01.2022 Today Lewis Kruizinga and I finished recording his brand new beautiful Maton acoustic guitar here at Smokestack Studios. We finished double tracking his finger picked guitar parts using the new AP5 pro preamp and Lewis laid down 5 more vocal tracks to use as guides for the final vocal recording. Lewis will be back with his electric guitar and amp to record some added sounds to finish off his first track of his new 5 song EP. We will post some more audio clips soon. Cheers, Paul

22.01.2022 Hey guys, I'm here at the NAMM show in Anaheim California and found this gorgeous Steve Vai Jem blue floral model with the tree of life inlay fretboard and gravity storm pickups. Yes, it played like butter and imho looked amazing and sounded fantastic. Probably the best set up Floyd Rose locking tremolo system I've ever felt too. I went to a Steve Gadd jazz/fusion gig in east LA at the Catalina Club and didn't even realise my favorite guitar player in the whole world was in t...he band, Mr Michael Landau. I met his wife Karen and dj Mark Wallengren from KOST 103.5 fm and they got him to come out and chat with Leah and myself for a while. First time I've been starstruck and almost lost for words. 22.01.2022 Hey guys, A lot of friends have asked about the previous Digitech Whammy pedal solo post. It’s the solo section from Audioslave’s (Like a stone) 2002 release with Chris Cornell on vocals. I found the backing track online and I played over it live. The Whammy pedal was set to 1 octave above any note I played and it was going straight into the Kemper profiler from my custom strat. 21.01.2022 Smokestackstudios got delivery of the mighty Roland TD 25 BD electronic drum kit last week. I've been using it to trigger Superior Drummer 2 program with the Fractal Axe Fx for guitar and bass all live and direct to the recording rig with all band members using headphones and all speaker cabinets turned off. A great way to record and rehearse with high quality audio. Here are some pics note (no microphones plugged in) Audio clips coming soon. Cheers, Paul

16.01.2022 SmokestackStudios just got delivery today of the Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro midi switching system. It is now running the Fractal Axe Fx Ultra in the studio and the whole guitar rig works flawlessly. Thanks to James Ryan for all his expertise with this unit. Cheers, Paul

10.01.2022 Hey guys, I've been hard at work here at Smokestack Studios over the last 10 months putting together Broomstick Mike's new 9 song cd. Due to time constraints it's taken a while, but it's finally mixed and mastered. Broomstick Mike are a local original 4 piece rock band that have been together for a couple of years and have finally captured their sound and original song craft here. Their cd consists of live acoustic drums and electronic drums with bass, electric guitars and vo...cals. The boys laid down 9 live drum and bass tracks in one 6 hour session 10 months ago and have dropped into the studio periodically to add new guitars (thankyou James Cargill) and lots of vocals too. The boys wanted to capture a semi live sound with some overdubs of vocals and guitars to fill up the mix a bit. I think the balance of live playing and studio overdubs capture their personality well. I'll put up a finished song or two soon for you to listen to. It was a blast working with Cam, Reece,Tim and Rob. They had great ideas and were happy to try some different approaches too. 09.01.2022 RIP EVH.... Very sad day today, one of the greatest guitar players of all time passed away today from cancer related issues. Kids... don’t smoke... become the best you can be and live a long fruitful life. You can still rock out and look cool without the smoke hangin out the side of your mouth. Edward Van Halen was 65.

05.01.2022 Hey guys, Here is the Digitech Freqout pedal going into the Kemper profiler amp. It generates endless feedback at any volume level with lots of varied overtones to accompany the endless sustain. This is set to a fifth above the note I’m sustaining here. Thanks to Better Music for hooking me up. Ps, this works perfectly on any amps dead clean sound too. Paul
