19.01.2022 3 days in and I. Have. Been. Swooped. I was telling someone earlier last month how my son gets swooped / clipped every time he goes out back for the last 3 years. (I get swooped for every time I hang out the washing! The hairs on the back of my neck are all standing just thinking of it!) They suggested we talk to the magpie to befriend it. ... The last two weeks the kids and I have been greeting him (my neighbours must think Im crazy) "good morning Mr Magpie, how are you today"; weve tried flattery "arent you looking handsome today", "youre such a clever boy"; weve walked quietly and slowly so as not to startle him (my 7 year old said we needed to be stealth). 16.01.2022 One night in July, my almost 7 year old woke me up in the middle of the night. "Mummy, I have a good idea for your business. Can I tell you?" "Of course you can." (must admit I was very groggy!) ... "I think you should make a limited edition keyring and we should donate the money to the Starlight room. Can we do it, please?" "That is a wonderful idea, can we please talk more about it in the morning? Go to sleep now." So we chatted more over the coming weeks, he said he wanted to raise $20 to help buy another computer so that more kids didnt have to wait to play. He said he wanted it to be a fox keyring and he wanted to design it. So here is his design. He wants to call it "what does the fox say" (apparently its a song they dance to in school for Just Dance? ) It will be sold together with a handmade scrunchie made by our lovely seamstress in Tasmania. We will be donating $3 from each keychain/scrunchie set to the Starlight organisation. There is also a "Foxy" lanyard available, in which we will be donating $2 from each sale to the Starlight organisation. 12.01.2022 Ok, I know I said the last of our keychain designs for 2020 would be released on Wednesday night but I just couldn't wait... So sneak peak of... Secret Society This one got me thinking of "clubs" and clubs that we may have belong to as kids. ... My brother, cousins and I used to pretend we had a club at my Grandmother's house. Our club was like a corporation and my grandmother's ironing board was the executive table and we used to just pretend to answer the phone and work (it was exciting stuff!) We had another club where we were a bit more adventurous and used to pretend go on little escapades through my grandfather's chicken coops or try to climb on the roof of their verandah (don't try this at home, kids). What about you? Did you belong to some kind of club when you were a kid?

But the one I'd like to focus on is: GRATITUDE// I am so beyond grateful to each of you for your support, your encouragement, your friendship this year. ... Thank you for fuelling my creative outlet. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be home with my kids while I live my creative dream. My little business started 2 years ago with SMOOch Design - with lots of ideas and passion. In April this year, in the midst of COVID, and working from home and assisting my son with distance learning and everything else that we were all trying to juggle, I had a vision and a focus on the my keyring and lanyard creations and decided that they were worthy of their own brand and that's how Smooch + Huggles came to be. For the last 8 months I have poured everything I am into building this brand and it would not be possible without each of you. Our followers and supporters, my family and friends, businesses that we have collaborated with and struck friendships with, new customers, repeat customers. You are each all so special to me and I cannot thank you enough for being on this journey with us. So while 2020 has been one of the most stressful years of my life, it has also been one of my most blessed years. I cannot wait to work hard and take advantage of every good thing 2021 has on offer. I wish you and your families all a year of health, of happiness, of triumph and success, of healing and peace and I look forward to continuing the SMOOCH + HUGGLES journey with you all in the new year.
