I have waited a while now for the government, social media and "health experts" to ra...ise awareness on the key method in prevention pneumonia & cross infection of flu. Well they haven't, so I decided to write this post to provide you guys the real and useful information, the tool, the technique to deal with Corona and all other types of flu. I believe that you all know me and that I only want you good. So read this and you are welcome to comment for any change or clarification. Yes, the rate of infection indicates that the virus's main mode of transmission is respiratory & it is now able to survive longer in the air (tolerant to UV). That means washing hands may not be as effective as wearing masks when it comes to infection control. Oral Hygiene & Cross Infection: - Your saliva and mucous contain germs which include different types of viruses and bacteria (pic 1). When you talk, cough or sneeze, oral liquids along with the germs, are released into the air as moisture or aerosol droplets. It rides with the wind to travel far wide. It follows air movement in confined space. Even when you alone, not moving, the warm breath and body heat creates the air movements as aerosol droplets fall into the spaces of light air around you. - The flu virus also has the ability to attract itself towards human moisture. So they infect more in dryer seasons & so some uses humidifier in their room in winter to desensitize the virus & avoid being infected. (pic2). - In winter, the flu virus rampage. With less of sunlight, aerosols droplets suspend longer in the air and the virus lives longer with less ultraviolet. - The concentration of germs in your throat and mouth at any given time depends on your oral health and hygiene (incl. brushing your teeth day and night and rinsing your mouth after every eat). The average amount of germs per aerosol droplet is 100,000. With underlying disease like tooth decay or viral infection, the density of germs is expected to be much higher due to ongoing growth & proliferation. - Studies (attached in pic below) on subjects with influenza revealed that the amount of aerosol produced per cough is 31% higher when the infection is active than when the virus is cleared. The flu virus is capable of altering the the volume and viscosity of the secretions, as well as the intensity of the coughing reflex - all for the preferred method of airborne transmission. - From the above and the literature attached, you can probably work out that oral hygiene is the key prevention of flu. At any given time, the collective oral hygiene of the population will determine the flu infectious risk. - Personal hygiene will prevent you infecting all others, and save yourself. Thus, it is quite important that hygiene and health information be shared by all and in consensus. If you withhold knowledge, or practice hygiene different to others, then the eventual virus is you. It's a shared responsibility. - It's impossible to avoid flu viruses as they can find you, one or another. But you should not fear as long you understand that hygiene is the real cure. It's not about hiding and distancing. It's about confidence with knowledge and acting with common sense. Pneumonia and Oral Hygiene: - to be continued.
