25.01.2022 Welcome our 2021 School Year! We hope everyone is enjoying what is left of the holidays. Our St Mary’s students K-6 will return on Monday 1st Feb. We look forward to having everyone back on board. Students will need to wear their full summer school uniform and make sure they have a water bottle as it’s a hot time of the year. We don’t have our student fridges yet so please ensure the lunches are able to keep cool inside the children’s bags. Our teachers will be at school from... Wed 27th Jan - Fri 29th Jan participating in various Professional Development sessions. The front office will be open tomorrow and Thursday during school hours. It will be unattended on Friday.

23.01.2022 5/6 Hope having been working on finding the ‘sum of’ and ‘difference’ between 3 digit numbers as their fluency task to start maths. Fluency tasks improve their Mental computation skills. They have been exploring 24 hour time in maths and begin with loop cards to help them convert 12 hour to 24 hour time. This is their warm up activity which has been videoed below. They have started planning a daily timetable in 24hour time for an overnight excursion to a sports camp.

22.01.2022 Year 1/2 Joy engaged with an online art lesson to produce these amazing aboriginal artworks. Thank you to Mrs Smith Art online for this awesome art lesson.

If you are back this way please come and visit.... God bless and continue to ‘Light the way in all you do and who you are’. Your St Mary’s Family

16.01.2022 1/2 Joy were playing ‘Friends of 10 ‘and ‘Friends of 20 ‘using a pack of cards and working with a partner. They had 6 cards face up in the middle and had to make 10 or 20 by adding the numbers on the cards . This is another example of a maths fluency activity used at St Mary’s to improve The students Mental Computation skills.

15.01.2022 Today Archbishop Christopher visited St Mary’s. He spoke to the whole school and then sat with our Year 5/6 students to talk about their Confirmation on the weekend. We learnt that his first job once he finished in the seminary was as an assistant priest in a parish outside of Melbourne. His first job before he entered the seminary was selling beer and whisky!

10.01.2022 Today in Maths 5/6 Faith we’re exploring the concept of Time. We looked at how to read timetables in both 12 and 24 hour time, how to calculate time and how to plan a trip. All students selected a tourist spot in Sydney to visit from Central Station. They had to work out what time to leave Central and how they would travel to their destination (some travelled by train and ferry, others had to walk). All students calculated how long each part of the trip would take.

10.01.2022 Last Friday our Kinder Kind and 1/2 Joy students went to Temora for their excursion. They went to the Temora Townhall theatre to watch Trolls: World Tour. Here they got to munch on some popcorn while they watched the movie. After the movie they went to Lake centenary to have lunch before heading back to school. A fun day was had by all. A special thank you to Mrs Beth Firman from Temora Townhall theatre and to Mrs Meincke ,Mrs Nielsen and Mrs Loudon for their organisation and supervision.

10.01.2022 Our modified Athletics carnival last Tuesday was a huge success despite the noticeable absence of our parents. Mr Nielsen said all the students at St Mary’s were so well behaved and the atmosphere was truly amazing. Our 5/6 students showed incredible leadership and stepped up to assist the teachers. Thank you to Mrs Cuthbertson whose organisation was seamless and she is to be commended on all her hard work. A big thank must also go to the teachers for all their supervision given no parent helpers.

08.01.2022 Even amongst the chaos of moving into new classrooms our infants children are calm and having a great time keeping busy!

07.01.2022 Thank you to Berna Simpson from the Independent Educators Union who presented a cheque for $1650.00 to Clare Parker on behalf of our P& F. We applied for the IEU annual Schools Environmental Grant and were successful. This money will go towards purchasing the resources to make dry creek beds in our new outdoor learning area near the hall. Stay tuned .....

07.01.2022 A flash back to Year 6 excursion to Wagga for the day, last a Friday. They had an awesome day starting off at the Strawberry farm where they not only got to pick and eat the most delicious strawberries but they learnt how the strawberries were grown organically, climbed in the aboriginal canoe tree and much more. Thank you to the hosts Michael and Kylie from ‘Bidgee Strawberries and cream’. From here they moved onto Flip out to really burn some energy followed by a McDonal...ds lunch delivered so carefully by Mrs Tulloch and Sarah to the Botanical gardens. To complete their day, all the students participated in a game of 10 pin bowling ! A great day was had by all. Thank you Mrs Cuthbertson, Mrs McGee, Mrs Tulloch and Mr Nielsen for your supervision.

07.01.2022 Today in Maths, 5/6 Faith explored the frequency of events along with determining a bias in games. All students participated in a hoop trial which involved throwing a bean bag and a shot out at different sized hoops. Students had to work out where the bias was (a heavy round ball was harder to use than the flat bean bag and the small red hoop was harder to get points with compared to the yellow and green hoops which were bigger). All students have gone home today to think about games they will create on Monday. We can’t wait to see what they create!

06.01.2022 Today we celebrated Socktober Day and wore all kinds of crazy socks to school. The money raised for today goes to Catholic Missions to assist those in Cambodia. Thank you everyone for your generosity

05.01.2022 As part of our NAIDOC celebrations the students moved from class to class partaking in activities. The children in the photos have made yarn turtles, boomerangs and turtles out of egg cartons for a class mobile. Other activities included watching Dreamtime movies and cross hatching hands to name a few. All the students thoroughly enjoyed these activities. Thank you Mrs Tulloch for organising the sessions and to the teachers for supervising the various activities.

05.01.2022 Year 2 Mercy started their Science unit All mixed up with Mrs Haworth today. They have had a lot of fun taste testing and mixing citric acid, icing sugar and bi carb Soda to create their own ‘Wizz fizz’. Then they tasted cocoa which didn’t taste quite as good as the Wizz Fizz! The cocoa made for some dark stained teeth and lips though including Mrs Haworth!!!!

05.01.2022 Kinder Kind got to stand on the tables today to share the reading of their ‘Sightword Mountains’. Luca was taller than Mrs Scott on his mountain . Great reading Kinder! You certainly know a MOUNTAIN of sight words!!!!

03.01.2022 Thank you Mrs Harland for your incredible singing for the recessional hymn at Yr 6 Grad Mass. It was hard to keep dry eyes listening to this beautiful rendition of Light the Way.

03.01.2022 This term 5/6 learnt about the Corporal Works of Mercy. We focused on how we could help our community, in particular with feeding the hungry and clothing the poor. Yesterday 4 students went with Mrs McGee to deliver the donations that were collected by 5/6 from the rest of the school. Vinnies was really grateful for our donations. Thank you to Lynn from Vinnies for accepting our donations so warmly. Thank you to everyone who supported 5/6 and their efforts this term!

03.01.2022 A huge congratulations to the 23 children who celebrated their Sacrament of Confirmation yesterday. A big thank you to Fr Dom, Mrs McGee and Mrs Cuthbertson for preparing the candidates, organising the mass and assisting the candidates and their families. May God bless you all as you continue on your faith journey

03.01.2022 For the last three days our dedicated staff at St Mary’s have been participating in various Professional Development courses. Today we worked with all staff, Uncle Bernie and parent reps from our school board to begin the journey of rewriting our school mission and vision statement. We would like to thank Phil Billington from ‘Ministry without borders’ for facilitating today and guiding us through this renewal process. We appreciated her expertise and commitment to working ...with rural schools such as ours. We are looking forward to having all our St Mary’s students back on Monday with a special mention of the newest members of our school Kinder 2021! Take care over the weekend.

02.01.2022 3/4 Mercy’s fluency task in Maths today was to use the numbers Mrs Harland gave them to make the 345 in as many different ways as possible. The students were very creative and accurate with their varying responses. The focus for their Maths lesson was ANGLES. The students used their iPads to photograph different angles in their classroom and label them. Lots of excellent mathematical inquiry took place today in their lesson.

02.01.2022 Year 3/4 Trust have been engineering and constructing in their classrooms. They had to build a bridge using Straws and other objects whilst adhering to certain building constraints such as distance between pylons. They then had to test the strength of their bridges by piling heavy things on top of the bridge. The results were astounding! We have some very clever, prospective engineers and construction workers amongst this class. Well done !

01.01.2022 As we wrap up the school year we farewell our Year 6 students who move into the next chapter of their lives. As a school we celebrated their Graduation Mass on Tuesday with their families.
