22.01.2022 To our loyal customers we are here to help you and your pet in these tough times. We strongly feel that we need to help the Government with their attempt to try to control this Corona Virus but also help you and your pet at their time of need. We will do our upmost not to compromise your family pets health, but we do need to as of Tuesday 24th March minimise contact with our customers.... By doing this we will be able to treat your pet, keep you and your family safe but also our Veterinary staff by following the rules set down by the Government. What to do: If you require an appointment, please phone the clinic 5318 5750 and make an appointment. We will have our front reception door locked. When you arrive please follow the instructions on the front door. We will unlock the back door for you and will leave the room. Please enter and place your pet in a cage. Please take off their collar and lead and take that with you. Please then leave the clinic and return to your vehicle. Once you have left, we will retrieve your pet and start the procedure or consult. The vet will talk to you via your phone to get any information that they require & to finalise payment before your pet is collected. Once finished, your pet will be placed back in the cage, along with any medication and instructions for you to take home. Once we have left the room you will be able to collect your pet. If you require medications or pet food: Please call the clinic so that the required items are ready for when you arrive, and payment can be done over the phone. On arrival please ring the clinic from your vehicle, to say you are here and we will place the items outside the door for you. We do apologise for this inconvenience, but we are sure that you will agree, we are trying to keep everyone safe and healthy but making sure that we are here for you and your pet is also well looked after.

21.01.2022 Gastroscopy is by far the most accurate way to diagnose stomach ulcers in horses. The process is simple and non invasive. It involves passing a long scope into ...the stomach of a sedated horse. The stomach ulcers are easily identified and graded on the spot. A treatment plan can then be put together depending on the findings. Stomach ulcers are very common in horses, affecting up to 60% of sport horses and 90% of racehorses. Symptoms include poor performance, bad behaviour under saddle or when tacking up, poor appetite, weight loss, colic, dull coat or difficulty maintaining condition. If you are worried about your horse having stomach ulcers please give us a call to arrange a gastroscope or to speak to one of our vets. We charge $300 for the gastroscope, sedation and consultation. If you are wanting to book an appointment please call the equine clinic on 5292 2151

09.01.2022 ***AVIAN INFLUENZA*** As many of you would have already seen there has been an outbreak of Avian Influenza (H7N7), also known as Bird Flu, detected within the R...egion. Although this is a zoonotic disease, meaning humans can contract it too, there is very low risk of disease in the general population. People who may contract the disease are those working in close contact with an infected flock. The government has put some controls on movement of birds and any equipment/machinery used around birds to help minimise the risk of spread. This means birds and equipment should not be moved off the premises if within the control zones. Things to look out for in birds are mostly respiratory signs- coughing, sneezing, rattles in the chest etc. as well as a decrease in egg production or sudden death, often of large numbers of birds in a population. However, diarrhoea may also occur less commonly. Clinical signs in humans are flu-like symptoms. Should you be at all concerned about the potential for a case on your property, or have any birds pass away suddenly please contact the 24 hour Animal Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888, Agriculture Victoria animal health staff or your local vet. For further information please visit the Agriculture Victoria website: https://agriculture.vic.gov.au//p/avian-influenza-bird-flu

06.01.2022 Whilst we love sharing everything with our pets at this time of year, there are some foods that are extremely toxic and harmful to their health. It may help to have a bag or container of dog treats handy around Christmas time so that they don't have to miss out on the fun!

06.01.2022 Vet Checks or Pre Purchase Exams There has recently been a lot of bad press surrounding the Pre Purchase Exam on various social media platforms. Pre-purcha...se examinations are undertaken on horses for sale to assess the suitability of the individual horse for the specific purpose of which the buyer intends to use it. It is intended to highlight any issues that may limit the horse from performing at its intended level. The buyer can then make an educated decision based on what level of risk they are prepared to take. As well as a thorough clinical exam we are often asked to perform X-rays, ultrasounds or a scope during the PPE. We may also recommend these further diagnostics after we have examined the horse. The PPE can be stressful for both the seller and purchaser. However we find that good communication between all parties involved helps to make it a smooth process. So if you are thinking of purchasing a new horse and want that extra piece of mind, please dont hesitate to call the clinic on (03) 5281 2226 to arrange it.

03.01.2022 With these strange times we are living in, we are hearing a lot of people say that their dogs are developing anxiety when left alone. This is a great video on using Kongs and how they can help your dog cope with you going out or back to work. Also a great way to crate train or relieve boredom! Let us know if you use them and if it helps your furry friend. Would also help to slow down those speedy eaters if used as a way to feed their dinner
