25.01.2022 Amazing Molluscs. Cephalopods like octopus, cuttlefish and argonauts are amazing. Some mimic other sea creatures (or rolling coconuts), carry coconut shells around to deploy as armour, carry their eggs in exquisite shells, communicate through colour and pattern, tenderly and sacrificially watch over their growing eggs and utilise detachable penile structures during reproduction. Follow the work of Museum Victoria's Dr Julian Finn for more Australian cephalopod info: http://museumvictoria.com.au//marine-s/people/julian-finn/

18.01.2022 This little elephant snail is here to remind you that the Weymouth intertidal monitoring session is happening this Sunday! Meet us at the boat ramp at the end of Trevor Street at 2pm for a couple of hours exploring this great example of intertidal habitat.

17.01.2022 WE FINALLY SAW ONE! While out with the North East Field Naturalists on the weekend, we came across a blue-ringed octopus. While too fast to capture on camera, I thought I'd share this site on how octopussies work, including where they keep their beak. In blue-rings (and they're not alone actually) bacteria in the salivary glads produce venom. http://science.howstuffworks.com/z/marine-life/octopus4.htm

11.01.2022 If you're up in the North East next weekend, you may like to pop along for one of NRM North's Tomahawk activities, Sat 24th Jan. Experts on the local coastal habitats will be there to answer all your questions, as we explore this special area.

10.01.2022 Seagrasses are amazing - sequestering carbon like nothing else (important for helping mitigate climate change). Saltmarshes are similar. We need to look after these critical habitats.
