24.01.2022 Elegant sea snake(Hydrophis elegans, highly venomous) rescued from Yaroomba this morning. Do you know what to do if you encounter a stranded sea snake? See below for the best response for members of the public. True Sea Snakes have no need to come ashore, so when one becomes stranded, there is most likely an underlying illness or injury, do the right thing and contact us or your local snake catcher/rescue group.... Watch closely for movement or signs of life. 4. Call your local wildlife rescue, a local snake catcher, or 1300ANIMAL. State your location and send a photo to the carer or catcher if possible. 5. 24.01.2022 Well it’s been an extremely busy week! I received a call about a Lace Monitor that had been attacked by a dog on Friday afternoon, I unfortunately was about 45mins away so I’ve called in Jordan All Coast Reptile Relocations to hurry over to Oceanic drive, Warana an assist the injured monitor before I could arrive. Unfortunatly in the 10-15 minutes before Jordan arrived the monitor had made his way into the neighbours roof cavity; Where there turned out to be 3 in the single r...oof cavity not just the one!! *Only 1 injured, the other 2 were left alone. A short time later I arrived and together we managed to catch the large male goanna, Jordan then transported him to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital where he will receive treatment for his wounds and be released back into the wild. Hope everyone’s having a great weekend! 0422 090 480, 24/7.

23.01.2022 Perfect example of variance in wild Coastal Carpet Pythons(Morelia spilota mcdowelli) colour and patterns here on the Sunshine Coast. This beautiful couple were spotted by a friend that took the photos for me out the back of Yandina. The female(larger one) has been hanging around the property the past week or so with the smaller male visiting. In the years I’ve been snake catching on the Sunshine Coast I’ve come across countless pythons with both variances and everything in b...etween, this is simply due to genes no crossbreeding, inter species breeding or anything alike going on, and no wild diamond pythons do not occur on the Sunshine Coast. Hope everyone had a good weekend an enjoys their weekend! 0422 090 480, 24/7.

23.01.2022 Stunning juvenile coastal carpet python(Morelia spilota mcdowelli). -If you come across a snake in your yard or while outside, stay calm, stand still and allow it to move on or if your at a safe distance slowly back away from the snake. Bring children/pets inside/to your side until it moves on. -If it happens to be inside the home, isolate the room by closing the door and place a towel at the bottom of the door, if the room cannot be isolated exit the area closing doors behin...d you and contact a licensed professional. Please never attempt to catch, contain or kill a snake, it’s a fact trying to kill a snake is the best way to get yourself bitten so if you're scared of a snake because they may bite or want to protect your family then why would take the one course of action that will render it most likely to bite. It's cruel, it's dangerous, it's illegal, it's unacceptable and it's a sign of an unwarranted fear due to lack of education and understanding. 0422 090 480, 24/7. www.rhyschapmanwildlifeservices.com

23.01.2022 Stunning Keelback(Tropidonophis mairii, non-venomous) recently removed from inside a garage at Mudjimba, check out how impressive snakes swimming skills are! This species is often praised for its ability to successfully consume cane toads(although if a cane toad is consumed an it’s quite large in comparison to the snake it may still feel affects of the poison). 0422 090 480, 24/7.

22.01.2022 Here are some photos of the Eastern brown from yesterday’s video, if you haven’t seen it yet make sure you check it out! https://www.facebook.com/1515866195116422/posts/3446952555341100/?vh=e&d=n This snake was removed from a home on Skylark St, Coolum Beach.... 0422 090 480, 24/7. 22.01.2022 Check out this stunning Red bellied black snake(Pseudechis porphyriacus Highly venomous, treat with caution). These snakes are a solid glossy black along the entire body(minus their brown ‘smudge’ on tip of snout), with red flanks most intense on the edges and fading underneath to a pink or cream belly. Average adult length is 1.5m but upwards to 2m specimens can be found.... Common throughout most regions of the Sunshine Coast, in particular damp regions with rainforests, waterways/creeks and drainage lines. In an attempt to intimidate if threatened, they will flatten their head and neck out. There fearsome reputation does not suit them at all; I would argue they’re one of the easiest and most placid elapids to work with. 0422 090 480, 24/7. www.rhyschapmanwildlifeservices.com @ Sunshine Coast, Queensland

19.01.2022 It’s well overdue we rethink our destructive relationship with our beautiful wild landscape and fragile ecosystems, human intrusion into animal habitats has grown considerably in this country and our local region in recent times. It’s time to start making an effort to learn to live with our beautiful fauna & flora and appreciating the areas we have left and making sure we continue preserving them and new areas. A little bit of empathy and compassion can go a long way for an ...injured or distressed animal. Without one there’s none. A massive shoutout too all wildlife rescuers, carers, nurses, veterinarians, rangers and activists for all their work! I’ve made some information sheets in regards to various situations you may find yourself in, and some photos of the recent snakes. Please share them around and don’t hesitate to get in touch or jump over to our website for more information. I’ve had an extremely busy few days with many calls, some notable ones 4 Eastern Browns, 2 Red Belly’s and multiple pythons and common tree snakes from the Coolum-Peregian alone, and countless calls for injured wildlife. 0422090480, 24/7. www.rhyschapmanwildlifeservices.com

03.01.2022 TODAY IS WORLD KANGAROO DAY PLEASE DONATE AND SHARE LIKE CRAZY We need your urgent help today. On world kangaroo day, we need urgent donations. Kangaroos are ...dying at the hands of developers and greedy land-grabbers. Kangaroos like Orion. The big male Eastern Grey Kangaroo in the mud was killed by development of the new airport runway on the Sunshine Coast, right in our own backyard. Upsettingly, he fell into a deep, water-logged, clay-filled pit around 11am. He was 'removed' with a front end loader and dumped on the bank. He was left there for six hours before anyone called us for help! We had to walk through the deep, exposed pit area on narrow duck-boards, at night to reach him. This poor animal was exhausted, freezing cold, dying of cardio-myopathy and nobody cared. We eventually reached him. This once magnificent 70+kg kangaroo was reduced to this sad, sad image. We sedated him and then came the task of carrying him out of there. This should not be happening. Never. Ever. THIS IS WHY WILDLIFE NEED SAFE HAVENS. Since April 2018 deaths of Kangaroos and wallabies on the Sunshine Coast have increased by 1007%. Those are just our figures, the ones we’ve been to. This world kangaroo day we need your help. To help others like Orion. We’re looking to give them a place that they can call home. Where they can sleep knowing they are safe. A place knowing that they can eat without fear and a place where they can raise their young with freedom and security. On world kangaroo day we need to raise $50,000 to make this happen for our kangaroos. We estimate that the funds raised will help save at least 50 kangaroos. Can you please chip in to make this happen? Kangaroos like Orion are counting on us. We receive no government funds so we rely on your help so much. Every dollar that you donate on this special day will go straight to the kangaroos. $25 will feed a young kangaroo for a week. Just $5 from each and every one of you would be so amazing. It’s the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will help save a life. Please donate now: https://wildlife-rescue-sunshine-coast-inc.giveeasy.org/wor

01.01.2022 Stunning Yellow-faced whip snake(Demansia psammophis), Mildly venomous removed from a home on Retreat Ct, Yandina. It’s a common misunderstanding that our reptiles hibernate, this is not the case our reptiles go into a semi-hibernate state known as brumation. Simply put reptiles will eat, drink and defecate less and will become less active during the colder days/months, but they may become active again on the warmer days before returning to dormancy.... Last winter was extremely busy given the warmer then usual weather we had. 0422 090 480, 24/7/365. www.rhyschapmanwildlifeservices.com/snakes-of-the-sunshine- @ Sunshine Coast, Queensland
