24.01.2022 Sunday night mini-doco - 5 DAYS OF EASTERN BROWN EDUCATION Part 1 - All about the Eastern Brown Introducing the Eastern Brown: While clearing for housing and ag...riculture has been disastrous for most wildlife, it has allowed the Eastern Brown to thrive due to a ready supply of rodents that the urban environment supports. Despite offering a free pest control, many people see them as dangerous pests themselves. My aim for these mini-doco's is to help educate the public about these snakes in the hope that one day they will be viewed as native wildlife that is an integral part of our Australian eco system, rather than being seen as a deadly pest that needs to be eradicated. Enjoy espisode one and thanks for watching! -Ross-

22.01.2022 Good afternoon guys, Just wanted to make this post: I run a snake and goanna relocation business. What does this mean for you? ... This business does charge a call out fee for all relocations. WHAT IF YOU CAN'T PAY FOR THE RELOCATION? First of all, ring me: Peter 0455 892 888 (I'm friendly). We can work something out, and although this business doesn't run on fresh air, an arrangement can be met. What is important to me, the catcher? YOUR SAFETY THE SAFETY OF YOUR PETS AND OF COURSE THE SAFETY OF THE SNAKE. Money comes second. However, in saying that I don't give a free service. I myself still have bills to pay, but please just TALK TO ME. I hope this will help in relaxing the idea of money tensions and the reluctance in calling a snake catcher. So we all know where we stand, here is a break down of fees expected. A basic call out during 6am - 8pm: Non venomous within a 20km radius from Redcliffe $50 Venomous within a 20km raddius from Redcliffe $60 Non venomous beyond 20km radius from Redcliffe $70 Venomous beyond 20km radius from Redcliffe $80 For roof extraction during hours of 6am - 8pm $20 extra for venomous and non venomous. After hours call out fee $40 extra between 8pm - 6am this also includes roof extraction during these hours. I hope this isn't too confusing. Remember if you can't afford this, call me anyway and we can work something out. Remember I am available 24/7. Need a snake catcher? Call Peter 0455 892 888

21.01.2022 MYTH BUSTER, PLEASE READ: Bites From Baby Venomous Snakes Are More Dangerous Than Adults - True OR False? The fact of the matter is that when you compare the PO...TENTIAL of an adult snake's bite to cause envenomation with that of a juvenile's, the adult will always be more capable of delivering venom during a bite and therefore will potentially be more dangerous. Lets look at the factors surrounding this topic. MYTH: Young snake's haven't learnt how to control the amount of venom they inject, making them more dangerous than adults, which have learnt how to control their venom. FACT: Adults have much larger venom glands filled with significantly more venom than a juvenile, so even If a young snake injects all of its venom in one bite, it still may only equal a fraction of what an adult could inject, even if it was saving some of it's venom for later. MYTH: Young snake's haven't learnt how to "dry bite" so they will envenomate you every time they bite. FACT: although snakes are capable of giving a dry bite (injecting no venom), no studies have been conducted to CONCLUSIVELY prove why and how often a snake "chooses" to dry bite (assuming it's even a conscious choice at all). Any other "theories" on the matter are just hearsay without conclusive evidence from scientific studies. THE FANG SIZE - Adults have significantly larger fangs than juvenile's so again their bite is potentially more dangerous because they have a higher chance at puncturing your skin than a juvenile. To summarise, it is impossible to speculate what a snake has or hasn't learnt to do. All we can do is look at the logic: Older/ Bigger venomous snakes will always be potentially more dangerous due to their matured anatomy. They have bigger fangs, more venom and they are physically more capable of delivering venom during a bite. I hope this clears up this myth. If you are a snake enthusiast please research this further before debating this topic. There is a lot of misinformation out there, unless it comes from the results of a scientific paper it's probably just someones opinion. Have a great night everyone, I hope this post has shed some light on this topic for you. -Ross-

21.01.2022 Someone has finished shedding and looks stunning

18.01.2022 If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake, DO NOT try treatment options such as cold packs, ice, tourniquets, alcohol, bleeding the wound or trying to ...suck out venom - these treatments are a waste of very precious time. Instead, call us right away and get your pet to the vet ASAP. See more

05.01.2022 Wednesday mini-doco: 5 DAYS OF EASTERN BROWN EDUCATION Part 4 - Perceived fear Vs actual danger posed to humans by the Eastern Brown If as Australians we weren...'t brought up with all of the fear and misinformation we've been hearing all our lives about snakes. I'm convinced we would all have a more realistic perception of the low amount of danger we are actually in when it comes to snakes. My aim for this episode is to hit you with some hard facts about snake bite and the bite of the Eastern Brown in particular. Enjoy everyone and PLEASE SHARE -Ross-

03.01.2022 This is just amazing first breath of life :)

03.01.2022 Monday mini-doco - 5 DAYS OF EASTERN BROWN EDUCATION Part 2 - Defensive behaviour Vs aggression: Whats the difference? Working as a snake catcher I am constantl...y told stories of how Eastern Brown's "chase" and "attack" people. While I can see how the defensive behaviour of an Eastern Brown can appear this way to the person who has encountered the snake, there are always two sides of the story. Mostly we only get the persons version of events which can get distorted due to fear and a lack of knowledge about the animals behaviour. As these stories spread throughout the community people start to needlessly fear and even hate them based on rumour alone. In the absence of education about the animal's behaviour, the problem snowballs to the situation we have today where many people, through fear and ignorance, believe that the animal should be killed so that humans can feel safe. It's my aim for tonights episode to explain the Eastern Brown's defensive behaviour so that you have a greater understanding of what's going through the snakes mind when it's encountered by a human. If we truly believe we are the most "superior" species on this planet then we need to smarten up and educate ourselves on how to live in harmony with our environment, rather than fighting against it. Enjoy espisode two and thanks for watching! -Ross-
