26.03.2022 SECRETIVE SNAKE SLITHERS ON THE SIDE OF SHOPPING CENTRE One of the rarest snakes that I catch is the Eastern Small Eyed Snake. These small nocturnal snakes are endemic to Melbourne but I may only catch maybe 2 per year. These very cute snakes are shy, venomous and we know little about small eyed snakes compared to other species. ... They're named after their very small eye. Even as a snake catcher, I get very excited when ever I catch one of these such as on the side of a shopping centre in Greensborough. P.S the odd baby snake will be around but snake season is mostly over so you can all "relax" now. 25.01.2022 SCHOOL IS BACK... FOR SNAKES TOO So in the last few days, I can't help but notice that venomous snakes are popping up into school grounds with teachers a principals calling me to advise: "Mark, there's a snake on school grounds! Get here now!" The reason for this I believe is that schools were essentially unoccupied for so long that snakes found them as suitable grounds for hunting and staying in. In turn, The Snake Hunter is now hunting snakes in school.... A big thanks to all the wonderful teachers and staff doing an amazing job to keep school children safe from snakes and keeping an eye on them. 23.01.2022 EASTERN BROWN SNAKES NOW THE MOST COMMON CAUGHT For years the most common snake I caught were eastern tigers. This appears to have changed recently with this season having far more eastern browns then tiger snakes. In other words, now the 2nd most venomous land snake in the world is the most common in Melbourne this season. This is unusual for me - but as I'm saying I'm seeing changes in snake behaviour. Showing up the bathroom was completely empty. 18.01.2022 NEWBORN BABY TIGER SNAKES DRAGGED INDOORS BY CAT This is an old photo of my baby tiger snake What is of concern for me is that baby tiger snakes are suppose to be born in later summer early autumn, but I'm seeing newborn babies everywhere - in houses, backyards etc. There is something changing the patterns of snakes at the moment and I can't figure out what it is. In James Cook Drive I've found 4 baby tigers that look nearly identical (from same family) in past week in the... same group of 3 houses. These looked newborn. In Templestowe on Foote Street, a Burmese cat carried what looked like a newborn baby tiger snake into the house and dropped it at the home owners foot - alive and wriggling. In Doreen, newborn baby tiger found in the home near Riverstone shops. Was under a rat cage. I looked around the parkland in the area afterwards and found 2 more of the same age (they were left in the park) In Patyah St Diamond Creek, newborn tiger snake found in garage. She doesnt care about that. She doesnt try to bite me and actually I think "tolerates" me to some degree. He works with his fiance in their own business together. 04.01.2022 JESSIE COMPLETES HER ADVANCED DIPLOMA Im so proud of my 19 y.o daughter Jessie (daughter No.1) who just finished her Advanced Diploma of Legal Studies at Kangan Institute today. She finished with a final grade of 98.8 so I presume there is a 1.2% margin for error. Jessie also just got accepted and enrolled into a Bachelor of Arts (psychology) at Deakin University so is now all grown up! ... Jessie is part Aboriginal descent. She wants to to work with immigrant and disadvantaged communities/people in future. She has faced some adversities for her young age: She has been raised solo by me since aged 11 (is a lot more mature than I), and has helped me look after her little sisters. Jessie has at times faced a lot of criticisms for her strict beliefs and adherence to Islam (only by some people). Jessie has been put down by ignorant people before, but what makes me proud is that Jessie doesnt care what people thinks. She holds her head high and does her own thing in life. The teachers found a freshly shed snake skin on school grounds. Only thing is that the snake is approx 7'3 feet long... and can't be found at the moment. ... 1. It is NOT the fault of the school that a wild snake crawled onto the grounds. 2. It IS perfectly safe to send your kids to school. Students have missed out on enough school this year so keep sending them. 3. Teach students if they see a snake at school to immediately tell teachers 4. Tiger snake crawls under Gladstone Rd Briar Hill. ... 5. 9 week old puppy staffy bitten on David Hockney Drive Briar Hill. Dad came home from work, puppy came running, saw snake on grass, sniffed the snake and bitten on the face. Raced straight to the vet. Still in intensive care.
