24.01.2022 Great to hear stories like this from people wearing our gaiters: G’day, not going to lie I was hesitant to spend the money on your gaiters. but I am fairly sure they just saved me was just out spraying lantana on my farm and felt a whack on my left one, when I looked down saw a brown tail disappearing into the grass not 100% sure it was a bite, it may have been the tail flicking me or something but either way I am now convinced it was money well spent. now I am just waiting for my heart rate to go back down before I continue spraying! Thanks! Damo, Toowomba Region, Queensland

We share our continent with about 170 species of land snakes, some equipped with venom more toxic than any other snakes in the world. 17.01.2022 Spring has sprung for Southern Australia and we're already hearing stories of snakes being seen - please let them be if you see one or call a snake handler. Here's some photos from the excellent snake display at Cleland Wildlife Park a month or so ago. I was chasing around my 3yr old son at the time so if you think I have these wrong please let us know! The impressive (we assume recently renovated) display at Cleland has a range of snakes many people would never otherwise see, including a Death Adder, Inland Taipan (much larger than I expected) and a large Mulga Snake plus pythons.

10.01.2022 Read about two wildlife ecologists in their search for the Australian Inland Taipan - the worlds most venomous snake. They live in very remote country and odds are most people will never see one.

09.01.2022 Snake in the reeds! This afternoon we were taking advantage of the overcast day to update photos of our snake proof gaiters at Laratinga Wetlands (Mount Barker SA). We just finished taking some photos near the creek bank when we noticed this Red Bellied Black Snake up in the reeds just near us! We tried getting a little closer for a better photo and it took off into the reeds. The Australian Red Bellied Black Snakes are often found near water. #redbelliedblacksnake @laratingawetlands @mountbarker.councilcommunitydevelopment

02.01.2022 This is an unfortunate circumstance where a man has passed away trying to save his dog. Our thoughts go out to this young mans family. As a dog is known as a mans best friends its a sudden natural instinct to try to save your pet from a deadly creature but we need to also take precautions ourselves when protecting pets. ... If bitten by a snake help needs to be sought fast. If possible a compression bandage needs to be applied to help stop the flow of poison. The victim needs to be kept calm and as still as possible until medical help arrives. Avoid washing the bite area because any venom left on the skin can help identify the snake.
