08.01.2022 CHOCOLATE CHIP PROTEIN MUG CAKE This fluffy and moist Chocolate Chip Protein Mug Cake will tap into your sweet tooth's cravings without any remorse! This recipe gives you the flexibility to use different protein powders and milk alternatives, so the flavor possibilities are endless. Ready in minutes, and ready to fill you up- this tasty treat won't disappoint!... (recipe makes 2 servings) (GF) (DF) (P) (V) Ingredients 1 medium-sized ripe banana, mashed 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla paste or essence 4 tbs almond meal 2 scoops of protein powder of your choice (whey, hemp, pea etc.) 1 tbs milk of your choice (dairy, almond, coconut etc.) 2 tbs dark chocolate chips (72% or higher) Directions Step 1: In a mixing bowl whisk together mashed banana, eggs and vanilla. Step 2: Mix in almond meal, protein powder and milk. If mixture is too thick add a little extra milk until you reach a cake batter consistency. Fold in chocolate chips. Step 3: Divide batter evenly between two standard size coffee mugs. Step 4: Place in microwave and cook for 90 seconds or until cake is cooked and springs back to touch. 05.01.2022 NUTRITION TIP - UNDERSTAND ENERGY BALANCE We have been conditioned to think that certain foods will make us gain fat. So we try and avoid these foods or feel guilty when we do eat them. ... If you find you are gaining unwanted fat then your energy balance is off. We need to start burning more calories then we are eating. You can do this in a couple of ways, 1- Increase your activity levels by hitting a step target each day & hitting the gym minimum 3 times. OR 2- Look at what your eating as see how you can reduce your calories. You don't have to eat less food, just less calories. So this is where making some small swaps in your diet is beneficial. Switch out sugary drinks for sugar free. Eat leaner cuts of meat Reduce the amount of oil & butter you cook with. Instead of eating 3 rows of chocolate, have 1 row. Incorporate more fruit & vegetables (these will fill you up for less calories) Its all trial and error, but once you start to get the energy balance right and it is sustainable for you, then you will start to see results.
