03.01.2022 NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP When it comes to building muscle or losing fat, we can be so caught up with grinding and smashing out our workouts, and we end up neglecting our rest time, which is really when all the gains really happen! Not only do we need enough rest, we need QUALITY rest to allow our body to recover from the stresses of training.... So with that in mind, here are my top 5 tips for making the most of your rest, and improving the quality of your sleep! AIM FOR 6-8 HOURS OF SLEEP PER NIGHT The exact amount you need will vary from person to person, but this is a good rule of thumb! WIND DOWN AND RELAX BEFORE SLEEPING It is important to reduce stress as much as possible before going to sleep, read a book, listen to music and/or journal have some YOU time. IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP ENVIRONMENT Ensure that you have good pillows to support your neck and promote good posture, reduce outside light as much as possible and keep your phone out of arms reach while you sleep. BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU ARE EATING Obviously caffeine has a huge impact on your sleeping patterns, and most people have too much of this during the day, so regulating the amount you are having is a great place to start. Also avoiding big meals and copious amounts of liquids will help you get to, and stay asleep throughout the night. MAKE A ROUTINE, AND STICK TO IT! Your body loves routine, and erratic sleep cycles have a huge effect on sleep quality. Pick a time that you plan to go sleep, and a time that you would like to wake up and make it a habit! There is a great feature in the iPhone clock app called 'bedtime' that can help you with this!
