10.01.2022 Table Tennis Australia board member Marie Pinkewich (far left doubles player) enjoying social doubles on one of the new tables with 3 of the local players. Saturday afternoon found the regular table tennis session at the Manly Vale Community Centre playing on new tables. The session has been running for around 16 years on the old tables. The local table tennis association, Sydney Northern Districts Table Tennis Association, decided earlier in the year to replace the aging tab...les, and applied for a grant from the governing body in Australia, Table Tennis Australia to assist in doing so. The grant came through in July, and the existing 3 tables and nets were replaced by 4 tables and nets. The existing configuration of the tables in the hall, of the tables side by side was not able to be maintained, so in addition barriers have been purchased that partition the hall in two. On hand to open the use of the new tables were Marie Pinkewich, board member of Table Tennis Australia and Mark Seeto, president of Sydney Northern Districts Table Tennis Association. Proceedings were opened by SND Manly Vale co-ordinator Kevin Wright who welcomed those present and acknowledged the role of both organizations in procuring the new tables. Marie Pinkewich then said a few words of encouragement and opened the use of the new tables by playing the inaugural smash on one of the new tables. Refreshments were provided by Kevin Wright and consumed and normal play commenced. Thanks also to Owen Ow for organising the purchase of the equipment and Chee Yow and Kevin for submitting the application. SND Manly Vale is open for casual drop in play from 3:30pm till 5:30pm on Saturday afternoons most of the year for $5.00 per visit. Note the old tables have now all been sold.
