25.01.2022 Cancer diagnosis has dropped during COVID 19 as many people are worried about visiting their GP. It is important to see your doctor if you are feeling unwell or not your 'usual' self. The symptoms of blood cancer can include: Coughing or chest pain Fever or chills Frequent infections... Itchy skin or rash Loss of appetite or nausea Night sweats Persistent weakness and fatigue Shortness of breath Thank you Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre - VCCC for this wonderful reminder. https://twitter.com/VicCompCanc/status/1308575281150439426

24.01.2022 To end blood cancer awareness month we wanted to thank you all for sharing, for dressing in red, for having conversations and checking in on those you love affected by a blood cancer. Together we have truly shone a light on this indiscriminate disease. Together we can achieve amazing things.

22.01.2022 Blood cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosis and we can't predict who will get it and who won't. Heartbreakingly, it is the number one cause of childhood cancer. A cure is our best hope.

21.01.2022 The incidence of blood cancer is increasing, in fact, there is a frightening 20% increase compared to last year! We can't prevent it or predict it, it is simply a random act of unkindness. The only way we can help blood cancer patients is through research. Research for new treatments, research to uncover what goes wrong and why and research into how best to kill off rogue cancer cells. We can't stop the incidence but we can stop the impact.

19.01.2022 Snowdome interviewed Dr Kat Lewis, Clinical Fellow at Blood Cancer Research WA on the importance of clinical trials for blood cancer patients. Kat has about six patients who have been on three to four trials. Each new trial medication prolonging their life, and at a good quality. Her favourite story of trial hope is a patient who had cycled through multiple different lines of treatment, all eventually failing to work until the patient entered a trial for a brand-new treatm...ent at the time, a BTK inhibitor. Seven years later this patient is still responding to the BTK inhibitor, a treatment that wasn’t even developed when he was first diagnosed with blood cancer. Each year Snowdome raises funds to support a Clinical Fellow at Blood Cancer Research WA. 18.01.2022 Congratulations to Prof Sharon Lewin, Director of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection & Immunity who last night took out the Committee for Melbourne's highest honour, the Melbourne Achiever Award. This award honours Melburnians who have made a significant contribution to the city that will have a lasting impact. Prof Lewin played an integral role in bringing the COVID 19 daily infection rate in Victoria from 700 a day to zero. Prof Lewin served on the Snowdome board for four years. https://www.theage.com.au//doherty-chief-awarded-top-gong-

17.01.2022 Our wonderful Suzie talking about Snowdome and why MY Mount Eliza Run & Fun Festival is so important.

15.01.2022 Did you know you can choose which type of blood cancer and even which trial you would like to help fund? Snowdome funds research across a wide range of blood cancer types. We also focus on a variety of areas of research; epigenetics, immunotherapy, biomarkers and genomics. So if you are like Geoff and want to focus on a specific area we can direct your funds. Geoff has raised enough money to support a trial investigating disease monitoring in myeloma using ctDNA. A cause close to his heart. Thank you to everyone that contributed to the MY Mount Eliza Run & Fun Festival to get this trial up and running.

14.01.2022 Thank you to everyone that took part in our campaign to raise awareness for blood cancer. We loved seeing you in red supporting someone you love affected by this indiscriminate disease. Thanks to @mediacastnews for helping collate this tile and drive a media campaign that reached 15million Australians. #snowdomefoundation #bloodcancerawareness #myeloma #itcouldbeme #leukemia #leukaemia #lymphoma #makinghopereal #support

13.01.2022 Blood Cancer Awareness Month is about coming together as a community to support those affected by blood cancer. Whether it be through images of you dressed in red, through donations or by simply reaching out to someone you love and letting them know you care. This image is of two 'Snowdomers' at last year's 'Bloody Good Dinner' event doing what they love doing the best. Helping raise awareness and funds for blood cancer. We want more than ever to be able to hold an event, to see you, to smile, to embrace you, but this year that will all have to wait. Melbourne we are with you and we promise when it is safe to do so we will be back to holding events so we can physically be with you as we work together to raise funds for blood cancer research. What are you looking forward to next year? Photo by @photosbygeorgie

13.01.2022 Exciting news for MDS patients. A promising new treatment is being tested in newly diagnosed high risk MDS patients. Magrolimab is an investigational anti-CD47 monoclonal antibody that helps macrophages, (part of your immune system) recognise cancer cells. A trial investigating the treatment in combination with azacitidine is recruiting patients. A trial is also underway to investigate the combination of venetoclax and azacitidine in newly diagnosed MDS. Venetoclax is currently approved for use in CLL, SLL and AML. It works by inhibiting a protein, BCL-2, that stops a cancer cell from dying. Please speak with your haematologist to learn more about these trials and whether they are right for you.

13.01.2022 September 22nd marks world chronic myeloid leukaemia day. It is projected that 378 Australians will be diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) in 2020. CML was the first leukaemia to be discovered way back in 1840! It was not until the 1960's that the next major discovery was made in Philadelphia by Peter Nowell and David Hungerford. They uncovered the genetic mutation occurring between chromosome 9 and 22 - hence we have Philadelphia positive and negative leukaemia. CML distinguishes itself from other types of leukaemia by the abnormal and unregulated growth of myeloid cells specifically granulocytes (a type of white blood cell). *image is not of CML

11.01.2022 New data reveals that the predicted incidence of blood cancer in 2020 will be close to 17,500 Australians. That is 3000 more Australians than in 2019. Improving diagnosis to guide the right treatment from the start is essential, as too is funding research to find better treatments and a cure. Snowdome invests your donations towards research that will make a difference to Australian blood cancer patients' lives. Genomic testing at the Wilson Centre is guiding better treatment choices for patients, often with lifesaving results. The researchers we fund are discovering new ways to attack and eradicate blood cancer. They are as passionate about finding a cure we all are. Lets 'make hope real' for Australian blood cancer patients.

04.01.2022 In a year where the power and importance of science has never been more evident, it is wonderful to see Prof Doug Hilton receive Melburnian of the year. Doug is the Director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, a world-class research institute based in Melbourne. Congratulations Doug on a well deserved award. https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au//2020-melburnian-of-the-y

03.01.2022 On Thursday 12th November, Snowdome and Blood Cancer Research WA held their annual Blood, Sweat and Tears of Joy educational event. Prof Chan Cheah hosted the event, but the real stars were the patients who courageously spoke about how their lives have been saved through clinical trials. Your donations to Snowdome help fund Clinical Fellows that enable trials to happen and patients to be recruited and supported throughout their journey. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this amazing outcome. To read about the event and the patient journeys please click below. https://www.snowdome.org.au//blood-sweat-tears-of-joy-wes/
