07.01.2022 SNAKE BITE INFORMATION FOR YOUR DOGS... Snake season is upon us.. Here is some information if you are worried about your four legged friend. If you find a snake... in your yard, (DO NOT try to catch it) .. even if it is nowhere near your dog thoroughly check your dog for any signs of snake bite. Like most other animals dogs do NOT show signs of illness or weakness until they are able to no longer hide it. Signs of a bite can include but not limited too- difficulty breathing, uncontrolled drooling, dilated pupils, vomiting, muscle tremors, walking unsteadily due to paralysis, loss of bowel and/or bladder control, blood in the urine and swelling. If your dog shows signs of a bite, keep the dog as calm as possible, remain calm yourself as they will react to your mood and get to the vet immediately. Carry your dog to the car and into the vet, you want the dog to be as still as possible. Talk to him/her in a reassuring voice, letting him know by your tone and actions that there is nothing to be anxious about. If bitten, the earlier your dog receives treatment, the better the chance of a full recovery. Home remedies such as tourniquets or ice packs take up valuable time that should be used in getting to the vet. Recovery times are variable depending on the species of snake, amount of venom injected and the treatment. It can take many days, depending on the severity of the bite. A serious envenomation with complications could turn into a lengthy vet stay and the recovery time could be weeks. If your vet is not close and you are not alone on the drive to the vet wrap the bite site firmly with a bandage. It is important the bite site has not been washed. In the cases of bites, there are many types of antivenom available. Polyvalent antivenom is theoretically able to neutralize the bites from all terrestrial snakes. In general terms, it is a broad spectrum antivenom but is extremely expensive. It is hoped that it will be effective against all species, but has not been tested with all species. Find out what snakes are in your area, and familiarize yourself with their appearance. It is important you learn what the snakes in your area look like. For example not all Brown Snakes are brown. A juvenile dugite looks completely different to an adult dugite. A tiger snake from Perth can look completely different from a tiger snake from down south. Familiarize yourself with current first aid for both yourself and your dog. Keep a first aid kit on hand that has snake bite aid in it. Have your local snake catcher's phone number saved into your phone under Snake Catcher. This saves you from trying to remember their name in an emergency. If possible send a photo (taken from a safe distance, again do not try catch it) to them for a FREE identification - it will help the vet greatly. If you are worried that your dog may go for a snake.. S/W Reptile Rescues and Education conduct K9 REPTILE AVOIDANCE TRAINING courses, available by appointment . 03.01.2022 With Christmas decorating in full swing remember Poinsettia, the popular Christmas plant is poisonous to dogs and cats. They are attracted to its sweet taste and all parts of the plant are dangerous. If your pet manages to ingest any part of the plant, get to a vet ASAP

01.01.2022 Update 23/08/2020 Polly is still missing. Please keep looking as someone has her. At the Pemberton property we have installed security cameras on the gates an...d across all areas of the property. We are installing new perimeter fencing around whole farm and with electronic security gates. It is really sad that we have to do this in our beautiful town to protect our animals and property. I would like to thank all the people who have contacted me to give information or support especially the students at Manjimup Senior High School. I really appreciate your efforts care and concern. I would also ask the people making abusive phone calls and others making prank calls to say they have found the dogs dead or injured to STOP. It’s just cruel and stupid Please contact with any sightings Thank you Marilyn 0413196843 UPDATE. 20/08/2020 POLLY IS STILL MISSING. SOMEONE HAS THIS PUPPY.
