25.01.2022 Happy National Water Week! Water is at the core of everything we do here at Snowy, but we don't own a single drop! For a moment in time, we are the proud custodians of water owned by NSW, Victorian and Commonwealth water-users, as we collect, store and divert this precious resource to generate clean renewable hydro-electricity. Once water leaves the Scheme, it flows into the Snowy, Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers to support the people, environment and agriculture along the entire length of these river systems. #nationalwaterweek #hydropower #thepowerofwater #thesnowyscheme #irrigation

25.01.2022 Its a white out up at Cabramurra today! We are happy to see some more snow falling in the mountains with more falls expected this weekend.

25.01.2022 Its all progress at the Snowy 2.0 concrete segment factory! A lot has happened in the last two months. Everything is on track for the first segment to be cast later this year. A total of 130,500 segments will be produced to line the tunnels of Snowy 2.0. #snowy2 #construction #progress

25.01.2022 Deep underground! Here is the access tunnel to Tumut 2 Power Station, which sits 244m underground. The access tunnel is 2km long and leads to the Tumut 2 Machine Hall. It’s about the size of a football field. #hydropower #snowyscheme #tunnels #underground

24.01.2022 Great coverage by Sky News Australia about Snowy 2.0 bringing jobs and investment to the regions. Once completed, this pumped-hydro expansion of the Snowy Scheme will underpin Australias transition to a renewable energy future. https://bit.ly/3jtH5L3

With the construction of Snowy 2.0 currently underway Snowy continues to look forward to a bright future. #71yearsofsnowy #fromthearchives #thesnowyscheme

24.01.2022 The centre of our universe! Our team in the control room are a fundamental part of our business, making sure we can keep the lights on. The control room is operated 24/7 and all Snowy assets can be remotely operated from this central location. #snowyhydro #energygenerator #controlroom

24.01.2022 The importance of hydro power is crystal clear! Using the power of water we can generate clean reliable energy. Lake Eucumbene is our central water storage. It is the only body of water that diverts to both sides of the mighty Snowy Scheme. #renewableenergy #hydropower #thesnowyscheme

23.01.2022 Safe and sound onsite! The Snowy 2.0 transformers that travelled through Cooma and Adaminaby last week are now at the Lobs Hole construction site. The transformers will soon be installed and commissioned before we start tunnelling later this year. #snowy2 #transformers #construction

23.01.2022 Our tunnel boring machine main drive was the main attraction in the Snowy Mountains today! At 6.6 metres wide and weighing a massive 174 tonnes, it took four prime movers and a 14-axle trailer to transport it from Cooma to the Snowy 2.0 construction site. #tunnelling #tbm #snowy2 #renewableenergy #snowymountains #construction

23.01.2022 Did you know? When all 10 units are available, Murray 1 Power Station can pass up to 19GL per day, which is the equivalent of more than 7,600 Olympic swimming pools. That's almost enough to fill Khancoban Pondage from empty! #hydropower #renewableenergy

23.01.2022 Meet Johann! Johann made some great friends on the Snowy, and remembers working hard and having a great time up in the Snowy Mountains! Every day was a challenge, and it did not matter to Johann’s project manager whether you spoke Russian, German or Italian, just as long as you knew your job. Watch Johann’s Snowy story below. #snowyscheme #proudhistory #snowystories #constructionera

21.01.2022 No this isnt a scene from the Frozen movie franchise - this is the spectacular and frosty Guthega Dam. At full capacity, the dam wall holds back 1,604ML of water, which is the same as 641 Olympic-sized swimming pools. While it is one of the Snowy Schemes smaller reservoirs, it is the highest, sitting at an elevation of 1,585m. #guthegadam #hydropower #snowyscheme #renewableenergy

20.01.2022 There was no time for sleeping on the job during construction of the Snowy Scheme, only dozing! During construction this dozer operator was photographed while working on the track to the Eight Mile Drill Camp in 1953. #FlashbackFriday #FromTheArchives #thesnowyscheme

20.01.2022 It’s no longer flat at Polo Flat! The concrete segment factory is fast taking shape and soon it will begin manufacturing more than 130,000 precast segments - each weighing about 6.5 tonnes - to line the Snowy 2.0 tunnels. #construction #tunnelling #infrastructure #manufacturing

17.01.2022 What a journey! Did you know that water from Tooma Reservoir can be diverted through six dams, 14.3km of pressure tunnels, 15.5km of penstocks and tailraces, five power stations, and seven weirs before ending up back in the Murray River, approximately 1,500km downstream from where it would have originally flowed in - amazing! #snowyscheme #hydroelectricscheme #irrigation #snowymountains

17.01.2022 A spark for Snowy meet Neville! Neville first started working on the Snowy in 1956, after his father suggested he follow in his footsteps and become an electrician. Working as a senior technical officer and his wife as a relief teacher at the local school, Neville fondly remembers becoming part of the Snowy community. Watch Neville’s Snowy story below. ... #snowystory #ourhistory #snowyscheme

17.01.2022 Brrr its cold in there! Workers during the construction era had to work in extreme conditions. Cofferdams like this one held back water to allow for work to be completed with reduced streamflow. In extremely icy water, work could range from preparing foundations to clearing big boulders from river beds like this guy! #fromthearchives #flashbackfriday #snowyscheme

15.01.2022 Did you know Murray 1 Power Station wasn’t always designed with a generation capacity of 950MW? During the 1960s an additional penstock and two more turbines were added. This was an obvious physical change to the power station design in response to a rapidly increasing demand for power. #flashbackfriday #fromthearchives #hydropower

15.01.2022 From a different angle If we were standing where this photo was taken today, we would definitely have wet feet. This photo was taken during the construction of Murray 1 Power Station back in 1965 and where the photographer is standing is now the tail bay filled with water. #FromTheArchives #flashbackfriday #thesnowyscheme
