11.01.2022 Each spring, Mountain Pygmy-possums wake up from hibernation, hungry for nutritious Bogong Moths to eat. Bogong Moths usually fly to meet Mountain Pygmy-possums in the billions, but this hasn’t happened in the past three years. Our scientists want to know where the moths are. If you see a Bogong Moth at your home this spring, take a photo and upload it to Zoos Victoria's Moth Tracker: https://bit.ly/3caC9s4

09.01.2022 Applications are now open for the NSW Regional Youth Taskforce. This is your chance to influence and shape government policy, network with likeminded young people and learn wicked new skills.

09.01.2022 This afternoon, members of the SMGS Environment Committee gathered to learn that they had been successful in their application for a grant from the Foundation f...or Rural & Regional Renewal and ABC Heywire. The student group is one of only 24 from across Australia who will share in over $180 000 of funding that will contribute to engaging youth in their local regions. The students and Ms Chanelle Abdipranoto were joined by Ms Rebecca Mooy, the NSW Hawkweed Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to hear the announcement. The Environment Committee will be working closely with Ms Mooy and NPWS to implement their project. For 2020, six project areas were identified by FRRR and ABC Heywire with the SMGS proposal aimed at meeting the Green Book criteria of connecting young people to their local environment in a changing climate. The SMGS Environment Committee will use the grant to implement their Mountains, Monitoring, Motivating project to allow students from local schools to learn how climate change impacts the fragile ecosystems in the Australian Alps. Over the next year, students will take part in workshops, undertake learning activities with the NPWS Kosciuszko Education Centre and support NPWS staff with vegetation and wildlife surveys. Throughout the program, the Environment Committee will use social media to communicate their progress and run a range of competitions to encourage engagement and participation. The Environment Committee would like to thank Ms Mooy and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service for their help in developing the proposal and partnering with SMGS. They are also very grateful for the opportunity that the FRRR and ABC Heywire grant provides and look forward to the challenges and rewards that lie ahead. 03.01.2022 Aged 15-25 and have something to say about these weird times we are living in? If you live in the Yass Valley, Snowy Valleys, Snowy Monaro, Eurobodalla or Bega... Valley you are invited to submit your written work - stories, poems, lyrics, cartoons, even text messages or emails to 'Ash, Dust, Air' a great initiative supported of Regional Arts NSW. Drought? Fire? COVID? What has it meant to you, what happened to you, what thinking have you been doing? A collection of works is being pulled together to capture what this all means to regional youth, right now. 2020 has been crazy, lets share the experience and help each other interrupt what's happening. Entries close Thursday (September 10) More info here - https://bit.ly/3jVmDTx
