23.01.2022 News Flash: Cooma Monaro Railway is seeking Expressions of Interest to participate in the proposed new Fresh Produce Markets at Cooma Railway Station! Cooma cou...ld soon have its own Sunday fresh produce markets twice a month under a plan being developed by CMR to support local and regional farmers, growers, and specialist producers. CMR President Gordon Strachan said the driving factor for the produce markets is the railways’ goal of representing the community. The Eden-Monaro region has been hurt by the recent bushfires and pandemic, but the people are resilient and forward-looking, Mr Strachan said. It is a community steeped in its past, yet ready to tackle the present to create a brighter future. We believe we have the facilities and the initiative to show that the region is ‘open for business’, and the markets will prove that we can deliver on what we say. Mr Strachan said Cooma railway station is an ideal location for a community produce market because it can harness the picturesque setting of the historic buildings and precinct with the natural goodness of local produce. The station is self-contained for parking, power and facilities, plus the platform veranda provides cover for smaller stores, he said. It is the perfect setting for an escape from the everyday, where you can buy local produce, admire the museum and enjoy the flavours of the coffee and food stalls. With everything that has happened this year, we believe the fresh produce markets will create many smiles and help regional produce makers to get back on their feet. CMR is now engaging with growers, farmers, produce makers and food stall holders to create the markets with a view to commencing operations in the spring. Interested parties are welcome to contact CMR organisers via email at [email protected]
