25.01.2022 Take Away window, or door? The choice is yours. We now are allowing open access into the clinic as long as you are wearing a mask. Many people have enjoyed using the Take Away window, and we will keep this open at least for a time while we ascertain if it is going to be a problem for our reception staff serving people from two places.... But for now you can be served, mask free through the window, or all masked up inside the clinic. 2020 - a year of changes

22.01.2022 More photogenic (but not more important) than this mornings first call out which was to a cow with a prolapsed uterus, was this mini dachshund who was unable to have her Pups. One caesarean later and she was a whole lot lighter. Mum had kids are doing well. Any guesses about how many she had?

22.01.2022 It's snake time of year again. We have had a couple of dogs in the past 2 weeks who have been bitten, both doing well after treatment.

21.01.2022 Good news. Our phones seem to be back online. . Sorry for the inconvenience.

19.01.2022 Another day with sleepy animals in the paddock. Today we had one horse who had an 8 cm umbilical hernia repaired prior to being castrated, while his mate was just castrated. We can safely give horses short anaesthetics in a clean grassy paddock where there is plenty of room for them to stagger around as they wake up. These boys both woke up smoothly and were grazing again within 10 minutes of standing up

18.01.2022 Here are the Pups, looking for mum while she wakes from her surgery

15.01.2022 Tomorrow (Thursday) we will be closed between 12 and 3 while we celebrate Christmas and the end of a trying year. If you need anything from us tomorrow we encourage you to contact us in the morning or after 3 so that we can help you out. Many thanks to the whole team for their efforts throughout the year. M

15.01.2022 Do you know if your paddock is at risk of causing nitrate poisoning to animals that graze it? We tested this grass in the clinic and are confident that it is safe to graze or cut for silage. Some species of grass are more likely to be toxic than others. Pastures that have been heavily fertilised with urea especially in the previous year 21days, and rapidly growing grass that then has a run of cloudy days are more likely to be toxic. Testing is quick (usually same day results) and cost effective. We just need a sample of green grass to extract some juice out of.

14.01.2022 Independent research suggests that eating a large amount of someone else's loved belt is a good way to upset them, but not good for your digestion. This chap is recovering from his surgery where we had to open his stomach to take out the offending bits of belt. Needless to say, the belt is not doing too well.

13.01.2022 An astute local farmer noticed that one of her cows was not doing as well as the rest of the herd and could see an unusual white lump in its mouth. When we examined the mouth closely we found that the new adult teeth that had erupted had come through the gum rotated at the 90 degrees to where they should have been causing the sharp edges to cut into her gums, and not cut grass effectively. Some sedation and local anaesthetic, and the offending teeth were removed. There's always something new and different in this job.

12.01.2022 We are currently Having issues with our phones. If you call and we don't answer please send us a Facebook message and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Sorry for the inconvenience.

09.01.2022 These sleepy calves are snoozing in today's sun, sleeping off the sedation they had prior to being disbudded. Many cattle (but not all) will grow horns unless something is done to stop them growing. Horns on cattle are a risk to other cattle as well as for the people who work with them. When we disbud calves they are given a sedative, then local anaesthetic to numb the area before we use a hot iron to stop the horn tissue from growing. Pain relief is continued with a long act...ing anti inflammatory injection. There's more information on our website Snowyrivervetclinic.com.au/resources/blog/calf-disbudding See more

06.01.2022 It's snake time of year again. This week we have had two animals in who have been bitten by a snake, and they have presented very differently. The gorgeous dog was seen trying to attack the snake and collapsed soon afterwards. She was bought straight to the clinic (only a few minutes away) and was completely collapsed and looking nearly dead when she got here. The team flew into action with oxygen, iv fliud line and snake antivenene. She made a spectacular recovery and went h...ome the following day. The smoochy cat was unwell for a couple of days, gradually getting worse and was past the time of antivene being of much use when he came to us. He has been treated with iv fluids, pain relief and other supportive therapies and is on the mend. Snake bites vary in severity depending on the type of snake, amount of venom and various animal factors. If you suspect your cat or dog may have been bitten give us a call to be seen asap. See more

06.01.2022 Things have been a bit busy at the clinic recently. Dogs bitten by snakes, cats hit by cars, dogs with tick paralysis, horses with colic, and the list goes on. We are having to do a bit more triage now than usual. Urgent cases get seen straight away and things that are not urgent might have to wait a couple of days to get an appointment. We appreciate everyone's patience while we do our best to cover this busy period. Thanks

05.01.2022 THE PHONES ARE BACK

04.01.2022 While the visitor information centre has been closed or running with reduced opening hours, Lucy and Gladis, the town geese have been on holidays at Dave's place. It's nesting time of year and they have both chosen a clump of lavendar to give them a pleasantly scented nest to sit on for the next few weeks. They have no fertile eggs underneath so they will be sorely disappointed when there are no goslings....

03.01.2022 Please note we are having phone difficulties If you are after an after hours vet please call 0428564993

01.01.2022 Lots of dogs get stressed by summer thunderstorms. Watch this virtual pup choir sing "Thunder". If your dog gets bothered by thunderstorms make an appointment to talk to one of our vets about treatment options. #pupchoir #Ceva
