25.01.2022 Lovely afternoon at the St John New South Wales Annual Awards ceremony held in the Great Hall at Sydney Uni. As well as the strong sense of community spirit present, there were lots of great stories where medical intervention has made a difference. Congratulations to all the Award recipients

However, personnel with higher levels of social support and resilience reported lower levels of suicidal thoughts and behaviours You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. Start a conversation with these four steps: 1. Ask R U OK? 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. 17.01.2022 In the MIA today for the opening of Gunbar station. This is the first station for the Gunbar Brigade, with the tanker previously housed in a farm shed. A great remote rural brigade with 31 members, the new 2 bay station has a training room, kitchen, two toilet/ shower combinations and storage. A excellent turn out by the brigade to celebrate the formal opening of this wonderful community asset. ... The Main Street of Griffith is buzzing today with this weekend being the spring festival and more than 70 citrus sculptures along the roadway. Couldn’t resist grabbing a picture of the RFS sculpture. Thanks Gunbar for your hospitality and a lovely lunch.
16.01.2022 A bit late with this post due to all the Fire stuff that is going on, but spend a lovely Friday afternoon with her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beasley AO QC Governor of NSW at the Australian Fire Service Medal Investitures held at Government House in Sydney. Group Captains Larry Bagnell (Cumberland), Richard Eade (Orana), Peter Evans (Sutherland), Wal Gately (Mid North Coast), Geoff Selwood (Canobolas) along with Deputy Captain Velma Walker (Shoalhaven), were all in... attendance to receive the Fire Services highest honour nationally. 15.01.2022 Today I was joined by Adam Crouch MP in the Central Coast District at the opening of the Wamberal RFB station extensions. A great turnout by the Brigade saw the two additional bays formally opened. The Brigade has worked hard to make this happen and it was nice to see all of the members efforts over a number of years, finally in place. I didn’t do very well on the photos I think I was having to much fun!!... Congratulations Wamberal

Representation in the room from all the New South Wales agencies, Canada, America, SA Country Fire Service. Had a brief chat with some of the CFS firefighters over breakfast as they were undertaking a crew rotation, more than 25 CFS here in the field. ... 07.01.2022 Dropped into the morning briefing at Liverpool Range FCC this morning. This IMT is managing 29 fires across multiple LGA’s including the Upper Hunter, Tamworth, Armidale and Gwydir. Lots of activity, more than 10 new fires started last week alone caused by dry thunderstorms and lightning. Thanks for the update team and keep up the great work
06.01.2022 It’s been another tough day for many of our firefighting team’s. I just thought I would share one picture I took today, that is representative of the many, many notes created by local kids, both independently and through School's where whole classes have taken the time to send messages of support to fire stations and control centres across NSW. This one was on the door at Lower North Coast FCC in Kempsey
03.01.2022 Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon in Quirindi at the Liverpool Range FCC where I was joined by Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter, Mayor Andrew Hope, Liverpool Plains Council, Deputy Mayor Maurice Collison, Upper Hunter Council, Cr David Moses Gunnedah Shire Council local staff and Group officers to award 38 Liverpool Range Volunteers with NSW RFS Long Service Medals. The Liverpool Range District comprises of the local government areas of Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains ...and the Upper Hunter, which covers a total area of 18,350 square kilometres and is supported by 57 brigades with just over 1700 members. Notably three awardees have given in excess of 60 years’ service to their communities, Neil Barwick (63yrs), Don Gardner (64yrs) and Peter Blake (65yrs) with a further six members exceeding 50 years in the NSW RFS. A great day attended by family and friends, who not only support their respective RFS members, it’s also their ongoing backing that enables these volunteers to do what they do so well. Thanks also to the various employers, whose flexibility enables our members to do the vital work they undertake.
