25.01.2022 In this time of hardship, it is important to acknowledge those who have made a huge difference in your life. As some of you know I love to dance, and at the age of 42 I joined adult Jazz and now beginner Tap. I have never danced these in my life. However, I have made friends, and I am surrounded by people with a positive mindset. And it is all thanks to This lady Mrs Kelly Adams, founder of DIS Dance Riverstone and Fitmindz 4 Kids DIS dance is not just about dance, its about... constant personal development. So when you become a student you get two for the price of one! Kelly Brought me to tears today, due to her selflessness. Our current social issues causing her to close down her studio, and go online. Amongst all this, she has launched her positive psychology program for children, in hope to spread positive vibes, even while she is not feeling all that great herself. This program is designed for those work who with children, and can be implemented into therapy. For more information please go to http://www.fitmindz4kids.com. Right now we are just going through a really bad storm, and we will come out the other end stronger than what we were when we first entered it! We are all in this together.

01.01.2022 Who would have thought my training for the online therapy world, would prepare me for Social distancing. Here is my new work space for Study and work. Im eve...n set up ready for kids to join in, lol. To my peeps using virtual sessions. Its time to consider your ethical practice. Using the internet to reach your clients is convenient, however it is essential you keep it ethical. So what is ethical when working virtually or remotely? 1. Choose your media platform! PACFA and AASW only support ZOOM. Zoom is encrypted. Also, Your online status stays confidential, unlike other platforms such as Skype or messenger and even the new Microsoft TEAMS. 2. Assess what is behind you. Any family photos, Personal items or clear view inside your home etc. You need to keep your personal and family life private from your professional life. While TEAMS is not our first choice it has the option of blurring out your back group. As yet, ZOOM has not implemented this option. So move your workspace to a generic part of the room if possible. Where you can sit professionally, comfortably and privately 3. Formulate an online contract for you and you clients. Inform them what is expected of them and what they can expect from you. This include general housekeeping around devices, children, interruptions, been to bathroom, ensure they are sitting at a table etc. Also, communicate with your own family (especially now when school might also be virtual). Make a rule, if that door is closed do not knock or come in. It is ok to give children and family members boundaries. It encourages respect. Ive been doing it for years now. They get the message. Mums working, unless its urgent do not disturb! Making a list of online rules or guidelines is beneficial for all parties. 4. Use headsets where possible. The use of headsets keeps conversations confidential. I recommend having it written in the contract. 5. Wear work clothing. Being dressed for work will help you feel like you are at work. It will help keep your life separate. Get changed after you sign off, just like you would if you were to walk in the door. 6. Have a start time and finish time, have morning tea, or smoko and lunch break. Get up and stretch. If the kids are home, make it your time out with them. Keep the communication lines open. Just like if you were in the lunch room at work with colleagues. 7. Check your internet speed and data allowance. Video calls take a lot of data. Make sure you are on the right plan. Telstra has changed all their plans to month by month so you are not locked in to a specific plan anymore. 8. Arrange payment options. Bank transfer, Paypal, invoices2go, wave etc. There are several ways and apps to invoice clients to ensure immediate payment. 9. And finally, Have a back up plan. Whilst we are reliant on technology sometimes it lets us down. The use is FaceTime is ok every now and then. However holding a phone can become tiring causing camera movement, causing distractions and frustration. I suggests just a phone call as a back up plan. It is more professional but once again make sure the conversation is the priority and both parties are sitting and are attentive. I hope this helps you out. If you have any question do not hesitate to contact me.
