25.01.2022 POSITIVE VIBRATIONS! Yes please! A BIG day today as we launch the Global Mindful Drinking Festival.... So what better way than to start my (very early) day with the @osunsparkling range of positively charged elixirs. Whilst this might sound a bit hippy Im open to anything right now and The Rose Water tastes pretty good at 5.30am. The basic concept is that crystals have their own unique vibration frequency and. by filtering water through them, the water is then elevated to that same frequency. Once this charged water is ingested, it is thought to in turn elevate your own energy, promoting positivity in health, mood and intention. 25.01.2022 On the Sweet Side. I enjoyed this Muscat from Spain ( Natureo) paired with this fabulous Sunday decadence - it’s on the sweeter side and would not be a go-to for me but I finished off the bottle and enjoyed the fresh fruity flavours ( apple, peach and citrus) as I hoovered up the cheese and biccys! I popped this one in the freezer for a while beforehand to get it super chilled which I think is a must for this style of NA wine.... 21.01.2022 SOMETHING DIFFERENT It's not lost on me how lucky we are here in Brisbane to be able to socialise again. And for me, the new normal includes not drinking and still enjoying a bloody good night out! In the past I would probably have passed on a Paint and Sip evening ( or passed out!) but this was a such a great night. I took along one of my favourite AF champagnes and let the creativity flow, instead of the wine!... Whilst I'm no Picasso I loved experimenting with colour and texture, as well as laughing, sharing stories and generally having a great time - all of which I can clearly remember today :) Huge thanks to the ladies at Paint and Sip Paddington & @mrs.lee.moy @claremapes @hammer_and_heels and @_justjacklyn_ for your artist prowess, inspirations and impressions And, wherever you are in the world ( and if you're not already doing it) why not bring out your creative self in whatever way feels good. 18.01.2022 OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE Last night I held the second soberUpside meetup group and I wanted to share just how amazing people are when they make a decision to live life on their terms. People signed up on their own, people who knew no-one, travelled miles to come, and showed up on their own, not knowing what to expect. They did this because they wanted to grow and to do that they had to step FAR out of their comfort zone.... People who do this are incredible to be around. Their stories are heart breaking, inspiring, determined and all unique. People who do this not only broaden the scope of their own lives, but those of others. I was nervous. I had expectations that I HAD to make this a good event. I didnt need to worry, they did that for me. I woke this morning with more joy, hopes and dreams than I did yesterdaySo if you were there last night thank you. It was bold, brave and I feel honoured to have met you. If you werent there but contribute to this community thank you too. Every day I find comfort, inspiration and a sense of belonging that comes from you living your life with passion by taking time to share your lives and ideas with me by stepping out of your comfort zone. 17.01.2022 Pretty hard to find a decent AF Red. Any tips? Removing the alcohol takes out a lot of flavour and often this is compensated for with sugar, so I was keen to try this light, low cal offering from Pierre Chavin. Sadly this one was not for me. However, its very affordable and, if you like very light, fruity and low calorie this is a passable alternative.or you could go a diet Ribena. Sorry Waiting for a new order from @craftzeroau where Im really excited for the new Marlborough Savs - cant wait to try the Giesens!

13.01.2022 A NEW AGE KIND OF SUNDAY Sundays used to be dragging myself out of bed, feeling crap, wishing it was raining so my kids rugby game was cancelled. Then, the anxiety. I had to interact with people, chat, be chirpy, pretend I was feeling Ok when inside I was sick with nerves, frustrated at myselfagain! Even if I hadnt had that much to drink I knew I was still only functioning at 70% and this fed my self-criticism monster.my harsh inner voice always so much louder t...han the screams of delight I was missing as my boys scored, tackled and lived their lives to the full on the pitch. I wasnt present. What a waste. BUT no more! I am so proud to say I now love watching the kids and instead of feeling regret I feel gratitude that I am finally able to enjoy every moment - even the dodgy hot chips and bacon burgers from the canteen because Im eating them out of choice, not because I need to soak up the night before toxins. And tonight Im getting zen with my @osunsparkling Lavender Water - how pretty is it!!! And it tastes soI dont knowhealthy, good for me, relaxing, pure.all good stuff anyway! 10.01.2022 Ladies Lunch without the booze! Thanks to @howardsmithwharves for allowing me to BYO my NA champagne and wine to the annual Mum’s lunch today. I was not sure how enjoyable it would beI have attended many ladies lunches in the past ( I think), but I was not quite present for them.... This one was made all the more enjoyable with my NA Champers, and the fabulous waitress who carried my bottle around, just for me, and topped me up when I needed it. I also bumped into a fellow non-drinker who had also BYO’d her NA champagne! It was bloody fabulous having a partner in (not) crime! 09.01.2022 A few of my favourite things. I used to love cooking, especially when I had a nice glass of wine in hand. It was one thing I really missed when I first gave up. But no longer! And tonight Ive enjoyed an especially delicious Chardonnay from NEWBLOOD. 08.01.2022 Secrets of an International DJ turned GP. Dr James Stewart from @the_na_guys tells me why he gave up his wild lifestyle to retrain in Medicine, and shares what we all know deep down. Your GP knows youre lying! As an international DJ James connected his drinking to the lifestyle he was leading. He loved DJing but thought that if he stopped, so would the drinking. But it didnt. He talks me through the denial which plagued him, even as he trained to be a Doctor, and how fin...ally the penny dropped, and he quit for good. In 2017 at a mates wedding, he flipped the wedding cake and passed out by 9pm in the middle of it with no recollection of the wedding, or his antics. The shame, guilt and embarrassment, and a few gentle nudges from his now wife, led to his first real attempt to quit. For over 6 months he replaced his routine beers with Alcohol free options, got seriously into exercise and started doing marathons and triathlons, becoming fitter than hed ever been. Fast-forward to Christmas 2018. He watched a video of himself at his in-laws, dancing, pant-less, to Eagle Rock, with no memory of doing it. A few months later, he found himself drinking alone, at the local surf club. That night he went totally off the rails and this was the point when he decided enough was enough. The sense of relief he felt, having made that decision, surprised him. In fact, once he finally accepted that he couldnt moderate he felt he could relax, accept his fate, and really start living his life to the full. Now has over a year of sobriety under his belt. 06.01.2022 TOTAL SHOCK! Been looking forward to the @giesenwines wines AF Sav since I knew it existed. I saved if for a special night with friends and, after a pre-dinner @noughtyaf champers, cracked it open with much anticipation! First surprise... it actually SMELLS like the real thingI even had my wine connoisseur friend check and he agreed. Its the first AF wine that Ive found that does, and it was most pleasing! .Secondly, I havent had a real wine for nearly a year, so, ...whist I cant recall exactly how it tastes, this seems pretty damn close to a low to mid-range Sav as I remember it - in fact, I was a little thrown by the taste - used to the sweeter and fuller flavours of AF wine this one is just how I remember my Savs,, fresh & crisp, light, with a genuinely dry finish. I spent a few moments wondering if it was even possible to enjoy it without questioning my motives, but once I recovered from the shock of how good it was, I allowed myself to simply enjoy the flavours. 01.01.2022 LOOKING FOR AN AF RED TO TRY? Imagine my surprise when I spied my red wine loving husband tucking into MY AF Red the other day! Whilst a little peeved, cos I hadnt even tried it yet, I was excited to see him drinking it... meant it must be good ! And a pleasant discovery it was , because good AF reds are far and few.... Although this is a Shiraz its a bit less full bodied than I remember ( probs due to 0% booze), it still has the deep ruby-red colour and intense ripe blue and black fruit flavours with some lovely chocolate notes and a long finish. In summary it's well balanced and not sweet, just how I like it (Best served a little chilled ) Because my husband polished off the bottle I've got more on the way, along with the Merlot which I shall try this weekend.
