25.01.2022 Tonight was a defining moment in SGA’s short history. On our travels we came across a young indigenous kid a couple of years back in the remote community of Mornington Island, population of 1500. This kid had developed a passion for football despite no clubs or any proper football program other than PE at schools. It was also evident that he came from a strong minded supportive family that wanted him to maximise his opportunities in life. His journey has taken him to the Go...ld Coast where he is now boarding at the incredible TSS and being mentored by Football director Joe Dolan, ex Millwall FC. Through communication with his dad, Joe Dolan , family friend Troy Fraser and Adem Poric (GC Knights CEO) we managed to organise a trial with Gold Coast Knights U13 NPL squad. With limited experience of playing in a team environment but learning everyday from Joe, this young kid did not look out of place and did himself, his family and his community proud. We have played a very, very small part in this kids journey but we will be there every step of the way of what we predict will be an incredible story over the coming years. 21.01.2022 Next week we embark on an a journey, a 5 hour flight from Brisbane to Cairns and then onto Mornington Island. Here’s a little bit of info about this tropical small island that we are looking to incorporate a regular SGA program to this indigenous community. Mornington Island, also known as Kunhanhaa, is an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Shire of Mornington, Queensland, Australia. It is the northernmost and largest of 22 islands that form the Wellesley Islands group. The largest town, Gununa, is on the south-west of the island.
