23.01.2022 As environmentalists prepare for a national day of action against the federal government’s gas-led recovery plans, oil refinery Viva Energy, has asked the state Labor government to bail it out while it plans to set up a shipping terminal to import gas.

20.01.2022 In the midst of all the drama of another election, we have some exciting news of our own: SUE BOLTON HAS BEEN RE-ELECTED to a third term on Moreland City Counci...l! During a deadly pandemic, and an economic recession, having a socialist on council while undeniably small in the grand context of everything is a welcome relief. It is a reminder that people power is stronger than that of corporations, developers, and ultimately capital. Sue received over 4,000 primary votes, corresponding to 12% of the first-preference votes. She was elected third in North-East Ward, alongside one Labor, one Greens, and one independent. The campaign we ran was a difficult one due to a number of factors. Being confined to online campaigning for most of the election prevented us from having the crucial conversations we would have had about the role of community organising. A strong right-wing vote, backed up by tight preferencing and preferences from Labor, also made us nervous at the last minute. It was also the first time we ran candidates across the entire municipality. Nevertheless, we did it. Sue says that she is "relieved to have been re-elected", and is "looking forward to getting straight back to work". A tireless champion for workers, the environment, and the community, Sue says that "the fight re-starts now". This wouldn't have happened without the hard work and dedication of all of our volunteers, supporters, and voters. We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all other socialist candidates successful in Darebin, Maribyrnong, and Yarra. Particular congrats go to Jorge Jorquera, elected for the first time, and awaiting confirmation after a recount on Friday. Our People's Republic of Moreland can be proud of the result it has achieved. We now await the next step with the results in North-West Ward after the suspected fraud, but are ready for the challenge ahead. The fight continues!
