22.01.2022 Yesterday was a really brilliant show of defiance. The campaign against uni cuts and fee increases needs to be militant, it needs to be mass and it needs to not accept any infringement on our democratic protest. Protests like this galvanise leftwing students on campus, demonstrate the real role of the police and contribute to building a bigger movement that can beat back the attacks by the Liberals and Vice-Chancellors.

22.01.2022 Incredible scenes of mass defiance in Thailand! Solidarity with Thai protesters fighting back against a brutal dictatorship and the recent Omnibus Law on Job Creation, which includes massive attacks on working conditions and the environment. The Government have attempted to end months of brilliant student-led mass protests by sending in the riot police to brutalise and lock up protesters, and recently implementing a ban on gatherings of 5 or more people. However, this did not... deter people from fighting back. Tens of thousands of people heroically came out yesterday to defy the ban, demanding the Prime Minister's resignation. All over the world the ruling class are trying to use the covid crisis to crack down on protests because they know that this is where ordinary people have power. History shows that conceding never gets the oppressed anywhere, but that social change happens when ordinary people collectively take action into their own hands.

21.01.2022 Socialist Alternative are running as part of Left Action in the USYD SRC elections! Left Action is a group of principled, left wing activists who are the ones putting the tireless work to build rallies and activism on campus. Vote for us! This video pretty much sums up our politics and vision for the SRC and the world. Give it a watch!!

20.01.2022 Solidarity with Coles warehouse workers at Smeaton Grange who have been locked out disgracefully for 3 months by Coles management, trying to bully them into submission. But these working class heroes aren’t giving in without a fight! They’ve organised a picket of the warehouse and are even blockading other warehouses to disrupt production. Coles made $900 million in profits over the last quarter off the backs of these workers, who did 12 hour days through fires and a pandemi...c with little care for safety. Working conditions at the warehouse are horrific: workers do backbreaking 10 hour shifts, are harassed if they take 1 extra minute on their lunch break, and are constantly pushed to increase their productivity. These people make Australia run. It’s a shame on Coles management for the way they have treated them, but unsurprising considering the psychopathic, greedy monsters who run the equal largest supermarket in the country. Up the workers who are ready for what could be a long, brutal fight. But if you don’t fight, you won’t win!

20.01.2022 Anniversary special episode of Red Flag radio! Reasons to be a revolutionary socialist in 2020 2020 has been a year racked with capitalist crises as well as inspiring global rebellion. The global pandemic has exposed many of the existing horrors that come part and parcel with a system run for profit in the hands of a parasitic minority. From catastrophic climate induced bushfires, a global pandemic that has now killed over 1.4 million people, as well as a looming economic... crisis on the scale of the Great Depression. Capitalism offers nothing for the vast majority of the population. The year has proved the necessity and possibility of a radically new society. One run in the interests and to meet the needs of the majority of people who actually do all of the work in society. From the mass anti-racist protests in America, to mass pro-democracy protests in Thailand and strikes in Belarus, ordinary people all over the world are rising up and demanding change. There has never been a more urgent time to become an organised socialist, to be part of building a revolutionary alternative to this wretched system. Tune in to this fantastic episode to hear from Roz and Liam on the many reasons to be a revolutionary socialist in 2020, and reflect on their favourite episodes with special guests Louise O'Shea, Jerome Small, Emma Norton, and Sagar Sanyal. 18.01.2022 ANOTHER VICTORY FOR STUDENTS OVER THE COPS!! Congrats to everyone who came out today to protest cuts to our education, to show the Liberals the fight isn't over and to stand up against police repression. Today shows students are angry enough, brave enough and collectively strong enough to stand up against hundreds of police. ... We need mass collective action to defeat these horrific attacks on our courses and mass sackings implemented by greedy, profit-driven university bosses. But with the unjust laws we're up against, we also need militancy and defiance. Those who argue that defying the police is alienating to students are only covering for their own moderate politics and have little faith in the majority of ordinary students. Let's continue to organise these types of protests! Let's reach every class and every student and argue that we all need to stand up against these attacks on our education. And we need to collaborate and coordinate with staff who have the economic power to bring universities to a halt. THE STUDENTS AND STAFF UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!

16.01.2022 Get into this amazing footage of today's rebellious, brilliant protest against Latham's transphobic bills, marching (and running) down the streets where it all started with Mardi Gras in 1978. This is the kind of defiance we need to beat back the bigots and restore the right to protest in NSW!

15.01.2022 Vale Maradona. Maradona was a football player who embodied the joy of rebellion. A football player of pure genius and imagination born of defiance. He created magic on the pitch and was an anti-imperialist off it. Maradona was a strong supporter of the Palestinian struggle for liberation. He once said, "We cannot be bought, we are lefties on the feet, we are lefties on the hands, we are lefties in the mind." His display in the 1986 World Cup is etched into history. In the sha...dow of the Falklands War and the contra-war against the revolution in Nicaragua, his infamous 'Hand of God' that sent England crashing out of the World Cup, came to symbolise a moment of pride against imperialism and oppression. One of the greatest football players to ever live, and someone who demonstrated the thrill in rejecting the status quo. Defiance with flair- that was the best of Maradona.

15.01.2022 !! PROTEST MARK LATHAM’S TRANSPHOBIC BILL !! Don't miss the next chance to take a stand against Latham's bigot bills. One Nation NSW leader and MP Mark Latham's atrocious set of anti-trans, anti-LGBTI+ bills are still on the table! The bills would be a historic attack on trans and LGBTI rights, which specifically target young trans students and their teachers. Join us tomorrow 1pm at Taylor Square for another chance to fight the bigots and stand up for Trans rights! Protect Trans Kids ROUND TWO: Kill Latham's Bills!

12.01.2022 A really great article by USYD student Nina Dillon Britton in the Guardian yesterday. Here is an excerpt which really frames what is going on at universities and with protests in general: "The idea of a free speech crisis on Australian university campuses conjures up images of foreign interference, triggered social justice warriors and students not speaking out for fear of being cancelled. But there is an actual, unfolding crisis at our universities receiving far less a...ttention. On Wednesday, a student protest at the University of Sydney against the government’s proposed cuts to higher education was forcefully dispersed by police. Videos show students running through campus to avoid police apprehension, being dragged from the street by police and forcefully pushed onto the curb. In one instance, a law professor was forced to the ground and arrested..... As a community, we have given up so much to ensure we contain the pandemic. But this cannot become a permanent state of affairs. It is a sad fact now that police are now a common sight on our campuses. At any time, the NSW government could choose to end this by exempting protests as they have for university classes and football stadiums. But if these protests have taught us anything it is that this will not be given to us easily. We must fight for it. Nothing less than our fundamental freedoms are at stake."

08.01.2022 Reminder that we’ll be screening radical documentary Rocking the Foundations TONIGHT at 5:30pm! Come learn about the radical history of Sydney’s militant construction union, who went on strike not just for wages and conditions, but for the environment, for gay rights, women’s rights and Aboriginal rights as well.

08.01.2022 Justice for Lily!! Lily, a member of Socialist Alternative, and her fellow XR activist have won their case against the NSW Police after being arrested over a year ago during a protest for climate justice! A clear reminder that we never had the complete right to protest, even before the pandemic. We need to fight not to go back to the state of affairs before the pandemic, where climate activists could be arrested and dragged through the courts, but go beyond that!

06.01.2022 OUT OF THE BARS AND INTO THE STREETS! WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMONSTRATE! An awesome and inspiring rally today against Mark Latham’s transphobic bill! We defied the cops and charged down Oxford St and into Hyde Park!! This sort of radical resistance is a continuation of the LGBTQI struggle from ‘78 to now! ... Shamefully two Socialist Alternative members were arrested today and dragged away by the riot police. These armed thugs are the defence force of bigotry and inequality. But we are the majority and we won’t be intimidated! Let’s continue the fight for trans rights and against the bigots in parliament!

03.01.2022 NO MORE HONG KONG POLICE LISTINGS INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH HONG KONG PROTESTERS! USYD CareerHub has shamefully included listings from the Hong Kong police trying to recruit. USYD management clearly have not had enough helping the NSW Police repress and shut down protests; they're keen to help Hong Kong police do likewise. ... We continue to express our solidarity with the Hong Kong protest movement and demand the immediate take-down of this and any other listing. We demand USYD management reveal the extent of the cooperation and collaboration with Hong Kong police. From Hong Kong to Minneapolis to Sydney, ABOLISH THE POLICE!

02.01.2022 We out here leafleting and chalking for tomorrow’s rally! Let’s make it as defiant, joyous and fun as possible!

01.01.2022 Excellent rally today at Sydney University against the cuts and fee hikes! Students successfully defied the police and pushed on to city road and even managed to break out on to parramatta road Cops off campus!
