25.01.2022 On Tuesday, Year 10 Design and Technology students spent the day in a fashion illustration workshop with Simon Harris, who visited Meriden from the Whitehouse Institute of Design. The girls learnt to draw body templates and material texture swatches and then used these skills to create fashion illustrations. The most outstanding student designer was awarded a place in a one-day workshop at the renowned Whitehouse Institute, and the prize went to Isabel Wang. Congratulations to Isabel and also to runners-up Lillian Havansky and Cheng Cheng. Isabels winning illustration is featured below.

24.01.2022 Meriden students greeted Term 3 with big smiles this morning!

23.01.2022 Year 10 iSTEM students have been working on building and coding an acrylic night light. During this lesson, the girls were testing their completed designs. The students were proud of the finished products, which required them to design and laser-cut eight acrylic panels, solder circuits and code the LED light sequence using python coding.



22.01.2022 Congratulations to one of our amazing violinists, Heather Kim, who won first prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition in Bonn, Germany. Heather has also been accepted into the State Intensive Program 2021 of Young Mannheim Symphonists run by the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra (ARCO). She will attend an intensive, week-long workshop in January 2021.

22.01.2022 Yesterday, Team Meriden brought home the Tildesley Shield for the eleventh consecutive year! Congratulations to the players who achieved the Schools best-ever result at a Tildesley Tennis Tournament, attaining Meridens highest-ever point score and taking out first prize and runner up in both the singles and doubles events.

21.01.2022 Year 12 students, Gahyun Lee and Isabella Fang, have been announced winners in three categories in the NSW State Solo Championships, which was run online by the NSW Band Association. Over 300 entries were received from young people across the state. Congratulations to Gahyun, who took out the Under 19 Double Reed category, and to Isabella, who won in both the Under 19 Mallet Keyboard and the Open Mallet Keyboard sections. We hope you enjoy Isabella's competition entries.



21.01.2022 Molly Flanagan and Bianca Hales have demonstrated that students are never too young to take the skills learnt in class out into the real world! The girls so enjoyed designing a rooftop garden in Design and Technology that they decided to enter the Public Space Ideas Competition run by the Committee for Sydney and the NSW Government. A judging panel of planning-industry experts awarded the girls’ original design first prize in the Children and Young People category. 21.01.2022 Meriden girls are going from strength to strength in their creative writing, with two Junior School students recently recognised for their work. Congratulations to Year 4 student, Juliet Maroun, who won a bronze award in the New South Wales-based WriteOn competition for her short story, The Chase. Congratulations also go to Year 5 student, Alyssa Wahhab, whose poem, Fortified, was shortlisted for the Whitlam Institutes What Matters? prize, which is open to students across Australia.

20.01.2022 Meridens Water Polo players are on the up and up! 19.01.2022 Senior School students have celebrated all things Science this week, with a range of activities taking place at lunchtimes. The girls have enthusiastically participated in a virtual exploration of the solar system, chromatography experiments, a science-themed escape room and more. This photo of our dedicated Science Captains, Nicole and Abilaksha, was taken at a session where girls attempted to perfect paper plane designs. Students whose designs performed best in these experiments will prepare entries for the 2020 STANSW Young Scientist Paper Plane Challenge. More to come!

18.01.2022 This week, Year 11 students learnt how to respond in emergency situations by undertaking a full-day First Aid Course, led by experienced instructors from @surflifesavingnsw.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 9 student, Zoe Thomas, who has just been selected by Water Polo Australia for the Born 2005 Cadet Girls Australian Squad. Zoe will compete in the Launch to LA Cadets Camp in September.

14.01.2022 Over the winter school holidays, our students were excited to undertake modified practice expeditions for their Silver and Bronze Duke of Edinburghs Awards. Temperatures were fresh but the girls were smiling! They are keen to put into practice their newly-learnt skills on qualifying expeditions in October. 13.01.2022 Meridens Junior School students are passionate about all things STEM and love that, for them, every week is Science Week! In recognition of National Science Week, which is currently underway, the girls have enjoyed undertaking their own Science Passion Projects and posting them to a blog which has been shared with the School community. An amazing array of projects have been uploaded from students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and all are centred on the theme Deep Blue: Innovations for the future of our oceans. Students have submitted everything from a Minecraft model of a sustainable fish farm to a boat design that transforms rubbish into fuel. Well done, girls!

12.01.2022 Year 12 student, Nioka Thomas, has just been offered a coveted place at an American university! Nioka is the first female athlete from outside the USA to be invited to join the champion water polo team at the University of California, Irvine. 11.01.2022 Congratulations to Meriden Olympus Program students, Karina Bell and Nakeisha Brimble, who have been selected for the Athletics NSW Target Talent Program 2020 (TTP). Karina and Nakeisha have commenced training with the program in Multi Event and Jumps respectively. The TTP is a high-performance pathway which identifies and develops the states best young athletes, enabling them to achieve their potential and providing avenues to represent Australia at youth, junior and senior levels.

10.01.2022 This morning, our Year 10 students began the week-long Passport Program which allows girls to experience sample Stage 6 lessons and supports their ability to make informed decisions about subject selection for Years 11 and 12. These students enjoyed performing practical experiments in their senior Chemistry class.

09.01.2022 Junior School students and teachers celebrated Book Week by dressing as their favourite literary characters, attending the Book Fair and enjoying virtual author visits. While their costumes ran the gamut from princesses to little piggies, the students were united by their love for reading and by their excitement about their next literary adventure.

09.01.2022 The theme of the 2020 Year 7 Geography Cake Competition was Great Southern Land and our student bakers certainly stepped up to the plate! Dr Greenhalgh and the Social Sciences Captains had the unenviable task of choosing a winning cake design, which will be announced on Monday. In previous years, the girls would share their sweet treats after the judging process was completed but this time, all the cakes returned home with their proud owners.

08.01.2022 At 2:00pm today, Meriden Old Girl, Captain Sharelle Quinn will be at the controls of Qantas last Boeing 747 as it makes its final flight. After seventeen years of connecting Australia to the world, VH-OEJ Wunala will be flown to an aircraft graveyard in Californias Mojave Desert. It is a fitting end for the aircraft dubbed Queen of the Skies to be flown by Captain Quinn, who was Qantas first female captain and has been flying 747s for thirty-six years. Meriden is proud that Captain Quinn will be commanding this historic flight that marks the end of an era in Australian aviation. 07.01.2022 Our Year 10 Art students werent able to travel to Nielsen Park for a landscape painting workshop so they undertook a virtual tour of the site instead. The girls did a wonderful job capturing the curve of Shark Beach using a combination of technology and creativity!

06.01.2022 This week, House Officers for 2021 have been appointed following an election wherein students and staff voted for candidates who put themselves forward for the leadership positions. The incoming leaders will take up their official duties in Term 4. Ahead of introducing the Schools newest House Officers, we thought we would take a look at some of the leaders who have served before them.

05.01.2022 This morning, Meridens Director of Music was featured in The Sydney Morning Herald, in an article that documented the tenacity and triumph of the Schools Symphony Orchestra. Our student musicians learnt Beethovens Fifth Symphony while learning from home in Term 2 and performed the piece at the Meriden Music Festival, held at the end of June, after only a handful of face-to-face rehearsals. 05.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 12 students who participated in the HSC Music Recital. The girls took to the stage to perform the pieces they will undertake for the final HSC exams.

04.01.2022 Last week, Year 9 students enjoyed welcoming to Meriden Ms Alex Parker from The Biting Truth. Ms Parker is an accredited practising dietitian and her seminar covered the science of nutrition and which foods best fuel adolescent bodies and brains.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to Audrey Zou, Year 9, who recently received a High Distinction in her AMEB Certificate of Performance Piano exam. Well done!

03.01.2022 Meriden is so proud of Year 11 musician, Rena Tang, who was invited to participate in the Australian Chamber Orchestras Virtual Academy. The program brings together exceptional secondary student string players for an intensive week of chamber ensembles, coached by ACO musicians. We hope you enjoy this performance of Mendelssohns String Symphony No. 9, 4th Movement, in which Rena, along with fifteen other student string players and ACO musicians were led by Aiko Goto.

03.01.2022 Year 10 students, Annabelle Strachan and Adele Dang, have each achieved a Gold CREST Award from the CSIRO for scientific investigations they undertook with industry mentors. This is a significant achievement involving over one hundred hours’ work, substantial background research and creativity in both design of an experiment and in its real-world application. Annabelle chose to investigate whether lemons are a feasible bioflocculant. Bioflocculants are biodegradable, safe and ecofriendly biopolymers that can be used, among other purposes, for treating wastewater by removing suspended solids and metal ions. Adele chose to investigate the effect of pH on king oyster mushroom mycelial growth.

02.01.2022 Bravo to the four Year 12 students who have just received nominations for OnSTAGE, a showcase of exemplary HSC Drama performances from across the state. 01.01.2022 Meriden is proud of its Cadets staff and students, who have recently been awarded a slew of promotions. Maths teacher, Ms Svetlana Onisczenko, who has been leading young Cadets for fourteen years, has received the rank of Captain. Meanwhile, three Cadets, Emily Seeto, Celeste Valiozis and Isabella Saville have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and have been promoted to Executive positions in the Unit. 01.01.2022 Meriden was delighted to once again showcase the talent of some of the School’s most exceptional musicians at November’s Amadeus Recital. Held termly, the events provide opportunities for the School community to enjoy repertoire from students in the Amadeus Program, which supports outstanding musicians. Musicians who performed at the most recent recital were: Alison Chang, Annabelle Desmond, Erin Du, Stella Hong, Chaewon Park, Rena Tang, Selina Wang and Teresa Yang. Thanks to all the students who brought joy to our audiences attending in person and via livestream.
