23.01.2022 How can you not say anything but YES! to a meeting request titled "Kicking & screaming into the 21st Century"? This is what our long term graphic design client is calling our meeting today, so that they can go NEXT LEVEL with @socialoceanau to bring their website into the 21st century with the other elements weve been creating for them over the last two years.... In case you were wondering. We did say YES! thank goodness for clients with good humour and realistic views #kickingandscreaming #websitedesign #redesign #updateyourlook #onbrand #graphicdesign #marketingbne #SocialOcean #virtualmeeting #zoom #getfoundonline #Thursday #ifyoudontlaughyoucry

21.01.2022 We have been yapping on about LinkedIn Company Pages for..... um... about three years now. And 2020 seems to have finally become the Year of the Company Page. Should we say the words "trend setters"? Think we just did. Whenever weve worked with clients launching new businesses during the last few years, weve insisted the Company Page be part of this process where the business isnt a personal brand.... Yes, we are still yapping on about this today. And if your marketing crew hasnt created their LinkedIn Company Page and started included it in their marketing mix then use your phone to call the person who cares. Quickly. This little piece of marketing real estate has assisted businesses globally with their organic SEO and its not "news". Whilst LinkedIn has introduced some excellent new features to this part of their platform (thanks Microsoft for thinking about us little business folks a bit more), the positive results this action makes for your search results is excellent. Get on the trend train today! And get your company page set up just like we have. #socialmediamarketing #marketingmix #getfoundonline #organicSEO #marketing

19.01.2022 We've mentioned in recent months about the local community group on Facebook that Kirsty launched 13 years ago with two school pals, David and Pete and how it's gone viral during the weeks of original Queensland lockdown. Well one of those other friends is the David from Journalist: David Douglas Stuart. Together with his brother Joe they've launched a Podcast and now YouTube TV show to keep themselves connected to their broader global networks. You can check that out over at... the Kama & Blowy Show. In their most recent episode, they invited Kirsty to catch up with them in their retro throwback of 80s and 90s memories, as well as discussing the sudden surge in numbers of their Facebook group. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/tR7mHs0wzWY

17.01.2022 Yesterday was R U OK? Day, but the importance of the 2020 community message is that theres more to say... Our own takeaway from this key message is that its more than this quick question. Its asking again. Its actually asking always. Its not just the talking either. ... Looking and listening for the non-verbal cues and stopping to pay attention after a day like yesterday has passed on our calendar. Can you ask someone else today? Could you ask yourself tomorrow? Weve learnt alot about the importance of being OK over many years. Many years ago as well in very recent years. Our own team have various levels of experience with anxiety, depression, mental health and stress - personally and in support of others. We understand theres always more to say. Lets open the discussion on the daily and instead of saying yes Im fine, share your truth if it is more "No Im not so great". Remember when someone asks you, theres always more to say. (And thanks to the bright spark who bought these tulips for no reason and put a smile on our dial, just because) #RUOKDayEveryDay

17.01.2022 Years ago Simon was working in WA working for several weeks straight and wasn't having a good time of it. He was stressed, working too many hours, not getting weekends, missing home and teetering on throwing in the towel. I was smack bang in the middle of launching a formal awards dinner at work, but did a review of how I could pack up and travel to spend time with him to help return to a more normal existence. And then off I went to WA for the first time. Did you know hav...ing a loved one taking up bed space, cooking your dinner and crapping on about the weather gives normalcy? It does. But you know, it was the event planning from the other side of the country that showed me you don't need four walls to pump out work required for a project. Thankfully I'd already had the photography needed for the graphic design I was doing (by @kyliejackson_photography), software was on my laptop, emails on the phone, and #Dropbox was loaded with all the spreadsheets of lists I needed. This photo of champagne is a reminder of that trip half a dozen years ago. A feeling of #laptoplife in real time. It's evidence of how successful you can be without #allthethings the safety of an office/job provides. Simon headed off to work each day, giving me the ability to take over the kitchen brekky bar as my office during the day. Sound familiar? YOU CAN get the job done when you need to get it done, even through adversity. YOU CAN lead yourself to successful outcomes whilst you're giving to those you love. YOU CAN still do the job when you're missing tools you've gotten used to. YOU CAN step out of your comfort zone when you have a clear plan and goals to achieve. YOU CAN sip champagne at sunset whilst working from anywhere! ~ Kirsty

15.01.2022 Are you joining the Ocean Network for a coffee catchup at 10am? We'll be at The Belvedere out on The Deck if you'd like to join us.

15.01.2022 Enjoying a well-rounded day today after an early start with the Ocean Network. But it took me until 5 minutes to 5 to realise I didn't even look in the mirror (again) today. And I don't care. I got some big stuff done, more inroads on a major technical website, and I scheduled some posts to the socials which I've been trying to get to for a week (yes guys, we understand this real world problem). ... Plus I sat down to eat lunch and watch a show on TV when my 2pm Tuesday curse from waking up early arrived (it's a thing trust me), then made up for that by listening to an instructional/educational Podcast whilst editing until right now. This no looking in the mirror issue might become a longer term problem with all this website designing going on at the moment. Might have to look at a "Beware of the Boss" sign on the office door until then, be warned about who greets you on Zoom or at the door #frooming #SocialOcean # #youvebeenwarned

13.01.2022 Doing Instagram training with clients means we're stalking a lot of accounts - some familiar, some completely unknown - but whenever we do that we're amazed and sadly disappointed to see posts that don't have anything to say. Though Instagram is your visual magazine, it's not only about the image. Are you posting images and not adding a written message before you click Share?... If you answered Yes to the above, we strongly advise you (read we're telling you!) to stop this immediately. Although many Followers scroll through and react with easily, you aren't generating engagement from them and they'll not engage with anything further if there's nothing for them to interact with. This is doubly important, if you're in a position of communication. In 2020 we've worked with several personalities in the public eye who's role depends on open communication within their communities or the general public. If these individuals posted a photo without supportive written content, how is it their community members would understand what was being shared? They simply couldn't. The purpose would be lost. There's a stack of content styles on social media. From quotes and jokes and subtle hints of whimsy and love which are entertaining and likeable, even though these styles may not share a lot of information about the business or product, they offer a point of engagement and interest. Fair enough you may not have much commentary - but as a minimum, tell us who's in the photo and/or the location of the image (2 of the most simple solutions). Where it's a stock photo or stolen quote or meme, simply repeating the text from the image is the bare basic solution for you then too.

12.01.2022 Sending a huge shout out to Martina from Joyful Blooms whos officially launched her 8 year hobby and lifelong passion as an official business. Recently doing Instagram for Business training with us, she then went on to launch her business accounts on both Instagram and Facebook. Her personal story of how her passion for flowers started is touching and worth sharing. And theres no denying that everyone loves flowers ... Thinking about her business and blooms however has inspired us to create some new samples for future Instagram students on how to consider using the platform as your main business account and how this concept allows you to plan out the visual components of the platform. It is worth sharing that this level of detail and planning doesnt happen over night! BUT planning out your Insta grid in advance allows you to spend less time on social media as a result. With planning comes control and for those of you like Martina who are extremely creative, this strategy can sometimes make more sense than figuring out what the written message could be - instead being lead by your content imagery. What were looking at in the images below is a combination of customised content (we used Canva Pro) where we would look at using the coloured blocks to place text for various reasons with the majority of posts left to allow her products shine bright. Can you see how you could plan out your Instagram grid better with some training and consideration? Note: flower photography in these samples are stock images for the purpose of this exercise.

12.01.2022 Chatting with a great mate whos a marketing manager of a national company in Melbourne recently and he wanted to know what tools we were using for services and if Id recommend them for a stand alone company. Generally, we test platforms regularly as well as get to see BTS (behind the scenes) on many other strange and powerful softwares that our variety of clients are using, moving away from and to etc. We rarely make public recommendations because not all tech platforms are... suited to everyone. But one of the free platforms we have zero issue recommending is for Milkshake as an alternative to LinkTree (which is super boring, though very functional). Youd want to use these when directing traffic to multiple locations on Instagram. Dont get account overwhelm! You only want to investigate this option if you have multiple hats within a business and would send traffic to different online portals. We use it because we have a Professional Business Networking group, a website, an online shop, and a wide variety of business provisions. If this describes you - then definitely, investigate ;) your welcome!

11.01.2022 "Do I really need to learn it?" This is the question we hear the most from our clients when it comes to social media. And wed like to put a smile on your dial this fine Monday.... NOPE! You dont need to learn "it" if "it" is a platform where your clients arent likely to be. ... For example if youre in the hospitality business where you are serving food and beverages directly to consumers, you dont need to be on LinkedIn. If youre in consultancy of just about any kind you should be mindful of the age of your clientele as this will help you figure out whether Instagram is going to give you a buzz over LinkedIn. Understanding who it is that you sell to, helps you to figure out what you can skip learning - or make a priority instead of wasting your time The one platform we do want you to learn #allthethings for is Facebook though. Why? Because Facebook is the platform where community members, clients/customers, and generally all round helpful people will "tag your business", when others ask for recommendations. STRAIGHT UP TALK HERE If you have zero interest in marketing your business - or learning how to market your business - the bare minimum activity on social media is that you MUST have a business Facebook page for the purpose of others being able to recommend you. Add a post to that business page monthly (did we really just say this out loud yes, yes we did). You need to do this, so that when your raving fans who know you do a great job or provide a great product recommend you to randoms in their community, those potential future consumers who will visit your Facebook page will know you are still active in business. Imagine if they visited your page and you look like youre closed? You know because of Covid or retirement or.... because you didnt learn how to market your business!

09.01.2022 Shout out to Rosanna from RJP Design and Decor who is collaborating with guest blog articles for a new real estate website we're working on. This is an excellent way to market your business to your ideal clients that you might not in ordinary circumstances have direct access to. Not only is Rosanna sharing her expertise with consumable information, she's providing insights for property owners or tenants about her passion and specialty services.... What a perfect partnership - Interior Designer and Realty! Have you got a perfect partnership that's just waiting for you to investigate?

09.01.2022 Let me tell you WHY you should bounce ideas off people who know you well, understand your business (may even understand it better than your husband or wife), have experience in business themselves - good or bad, as well as have conversations with your community - clients - long term followers. Firstly, they will have an opinion about all of it. You might not want to hear what that is, but they have one that can help you look at what youre doing from a different perspective. ...It also gives you fresh eyes with struggles you may experience and in places you feel you are lacking in confidence - they can be the best confidence builders youll ever have! Were very passionate about what we do so are always talking about it with anyone wholl listen. These conversations have become an excellent resource for us however. They inspire us to turn up here, just like were telling you to turn up! Blocks and stubborn ways are challenged and smashed (this is why we have and you should have a Mentor too by the way). Who have you been making time to hang out with - in person, on the phone or video - to have a conversation with? We have several people to do this with, its not always in a formal sense - one of these people involves a sandy beach and a dog. Another always involves copious amounts of wine and snacks. Another phone calls and coffee. During these trying times our experiences and needs and stressors have changed monumentally. If youre one of those lucky ducks who are experiencing higher profits or earnings, youll be just as stressed as another whos had the opposite occur. Please look after yourself, your business brain needs to break down the walls occasionally and you and your business will feel better for it.
