19.01.2022 Did you know that it's only 10 years since the first iphone was released? In one short decade, that piece of technology has totally changed our lives - and not ...necessarily for the better. This article looks at the addiction that is consuming all of us and how it is affecting our happiness and well-being. #ontheroadtohappiness See more

16.01.2022 Thinking about why its more important than ever this year... press pause, disconnect to reconnect... you may not even realise it, but our daily habits can have a huge impact on our wellbeing and mental health. Https://www.talkspace.com//the-impact-of-social-media-on-/

12.01.2022 Young people, facilitators, staff and supporters. Everyone in the office at the time jumped in to throw their support behind this very important message. We are... pretty lucky to be part of an organisation where it really is okay to talk, and where having open and honest conversations is at the heart of what we do. But not everyone has this kind of safe space to turn to, and unfortunately there are still barriers that prevent people from getting help when they need it. The single biggest killer of men aged under 45 is suicide. In 2014, 4623 took their own life in Australia. That's 12 men every day, 1 man every 2 hours! 41% of men who contemplated suicide felt they could not talk about their feelings. Only 20% of people know that suicide is the most likely cause of death for men aged under 45. Help us show everyone across the world that #ITSOKAYTOTALK We aren't going to tag 5 people in this. We only hope that if you see this post, you'll help spread the message too.

12.01.2022 Today marks 1 September 2020, and I'm thinking about the start of Social September and the importance of our evolving social connections. In particular, our hei...ghtened need to focus on wellbeing during crazy covid times where social 'distancing' is our new language. More than ever this year for Social September, I would love to encourage us all to press pause and take an active focus on the positive impact that we can all have through connecting, in a time where disconnection is so much more prevalent. Reflecting back 8 years ago, with the help and support of so many amazing people (many of you in these photos), we launched the charity month Social September, raising $ for The Reach Foundation and hosted fundraising events around Australia to bring people together in support of mental health and young people. We had an amazing time and over the years were able to raise over $100k. At it's core, we were seeking to balance out the rising use of technology with more face to face time, more mindfulness, and more personal opportunities to reconnect with ourselves and others. Asking bigger questions, picking up the phone to have a chat to someone we hadn't seen for a while, not continually looking down at our phones... but instead lifting our heads up and being present to those around us. This year, Social September may look a little different for us. They say that you don't truly appreciate something until it is taken away. For the first time, we have actually felt what it is like to have limited social connection... through current or past lock downs. We remind ourselves of times when events, travel, hugs & kisses, and crowds were the norm. But we are also adaptable and we continue to find new ways to connect... We are all experiencing this time and these challenges differently - but let's all try to find simple commitments to take on that personally work for us, bringing back more beautiful Social September connection this month. Some ideas: savour the face to face time you do have with your family and friends - and make the most of it! take breaks from zoom, and make sure that you are having screen free time during your work day go for a walk outside regularly send a care pack to someone who may be alone, or not feeling their best call and check in with loved ones around the world find creative ways to get together socially (eg fun date nights, surprise deliveries, virtual events - did you see this year's VMA awards?) take some time out just for you... What have you always wanted to do, but haven't had the chance? (eg pick up a paintbrush, a book, a recipe - rather than a remote or your phone) and most importantly, click here -> https://app.etapestry.com/bb/ReachFoundation/DonateNow.html to donate to Reach, so that they can continue to run sessions for young people and support their mental health in these times Happy Social September everyone - let's keep our connections and wellbeing up!

11.01.2022 Although the headline is unnecessarily alarmist, hands-down, this is the best thing I've read summarizing the evidence-based effects of smartphones on today's t...eenagers. Please try to read it without pre-existing biases. Some people have a knee-jerk negative reaction -- "Smartphones are NOT hurting kids!" -- that prevents them from reading and reflecting on the well-supported position the author, Jean Twenge, is presenting. Professor Twenge is an outstanding researcher who's been studying this issue for more than a decade. https://www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/534198/ See more

11.01.2022 The was a terribly hyperbolic article on technology as 'digital heroin' last week that went pretty viral for its clickbaity headline. Here's a great rebuttal, written by a neuroscientist, that helps us understand how dopamine *really* works.
